  1. Anyone see the Yankees v. Tampa or Boston v. Orioles games last night? I'm a Yankee fan but what a comeback for Tampa! Craziest end of season ever to come back from 9 games behind Boston and then to beat the Yankees after coming back from an 7-0 deficit in the eighth inning and winning in the 12th with a home run by none other than Longoria?? What was Joe Girardi thinking using 12 pitches???
  2. Thanks for the input guys. WNY I don't plan on doing too much at one time. When I process my deer I usually cut the venison in chunks for slow cooking. I'm probably going to make about 10-15 lbs of ground venison for patties and sausage. Only my son and I eat it. Thanks for the hint on getting a stuffer.
  3. After using a small hand operated meat grinder last year I decided to pick up the Waring Professional Electric Meat Grinder at Kitchen Collections today at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead for $80. http://www.waringproducts.com/ret/catalog/product.php?product_id=37&cat_id=3 Read some great reviews on various sites. Looking forward to using it to make me some venison burgers and sausages. Anyone have any experience with this grinder?
  4. John, I'm planning on going Sunday morning with my brother. Would be nice to meet you and say hello face to face.
  5. Steve863 I agree with you. I think that we as hunters have an obligation to our younger children, nieces & nephews to teach them not only about hunting & fishing but more importantly to respect and enjoying wildlife and THEIR habitats no matter where you may be, whether they are at the beach, in the woods, in parks, and in their own neighborhood. Of course as they get older and they start getting involved in other activities, i.e. school sports etc, some will lose interest (like my 14 y.o. daughter did) But if they are allowed to participate in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking and even bird watching, at a younger age on a more regular basis, then I think the chances of their losing interest will be reduced dramatically. I think it also depends on the make up or nature of the family they are being raised in. I know as I was growing up, my dad who was an immigrant when he came to America, all he kept pushing on us was advancing in school, getting a job and making money. Hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities were the furthest things from my dad's mind. It was only after I got married and became part of her family (all of whom were hunters) did I start enjoying the sport as well as all other outdoor activities. This is what I have been trying to instill in my 10 y.o. son and so far he loves going upstate, doing some scouting, fishing in streams, and even sitting around the chiminea roasting marshmellows.

    You read my mind Eddie!
  7. Unfortunately, my plans to head upstate for Fall Turkey opening weekend have been nixed due to family illness. Instead I'm gonna be heading out to thrill of the hunt this weekend to try out the range.
  8. I know I won't have a problem convincing my 10 y.o. to come out hunting with me when he gets older. He always asks me when I get ready to head upstate for the season, if he can go hunting with me. I tell him just another two years to go before you can get your junior sportsman license. He says that's too long to wait! I guess two years in the eyes of a 10 y.o. is a long time. I take him up preseason to scout and he loves that!
  9. That is my problem also. I always forget to bend at the waist. Missed out on killing a large coyote last season cause I didn't bend at the waist. The orange sticker sounds like a great idea.
  10. I saw that video and tried making it. You need to be very careful not to glue the tip end that activates the light. I got just a bit of glue on the tip (about a size of a pin head) and somehow the head got stuck in the on position when i inserted it into the nock. Don't have the patience anymore to make them so I broke down and paid the $10 for ready made ones.
  11. Wow!! I haven't seen them that big yet in 4Y. I'm jealous!
  12. I used the quickfletch ones on my Easton alumns with a whisker biscuit. The fletchings tore every time i shot through the wb. Never again. Switched to NAP Apache drop away and FOBS. They fly straight as an arrow ... LOL. BTW the following video got me hooked on switching from vanes to FOBs.
  13. I'm shooting 100 gr G5 fixed 3 blade. Together with arrow shaft and FOBs I'm coming in at about 400grains. Don't know if there will be pass through. Have not tried in field yet. Come October 15th hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised
  14. I bought a set of the CX lighted nocks. Have not tested them out with my bow but they seem to be pretty bright. Turn on when arrow is released and stay lit until you turn them off by pulling slightly back. Reviews were good and they're cheaper than Lumenok and Tracer. Got them at Dicks on sale 2 for $10
  15. Used to use Easton aluminums that were camo and always lost them or it took forever to find. Now I use CX black with fluorescent yellow wraps and blaze orange FOBs and CX lighted nocks. If I can't find them this season then I'm getting blind as a bat. Lol.
  16. I just use them to help find my arrow after the shot.
  17. I hear it too when the creditcard bill arrives. It reads as follows: Dick's, Dick's, Dick's Dicks, target, Dicks, Dick's, stop and shop, Dick's, Dick's, and so on....lol.
  18. Just tell her what I tell my wife when I buy new hunting equipment- "I need it to help me make sure I get my deer faster so I can come back home to you and the kids sooner...lol.
  19. I have them set at 10, 20, 30, 40 though I've rarely shot over 30.
  20. You said it WNY. Better to be right than dealing with an overzealous CO.

    Roadkill

I don't think i would. Who knows how long the deer has been laying on the side of the road. Now if i hit it then and i know its fresh then yeah maybe i would . . .
  22. Well I just finished re-mounting and aligning my bow mounted rangefinder. Hopefully it will stop raining long enough this weekend so I can test it outside.
  23. You read my mind! I'm in the same "boat" so to speak. Venison heart with onions sauteed in olive oil and wine . .
  24. Welcome aboard! This is a great forum and a great bunch of people with various levels of expertise.
