  1. I've seen it sold in Gander Mtn in Kingston and they are always fully stocked. Yet, I have not seen anyone buying it in all my years of going there. I guess there are still some ethical hunters out there who appreciate and enjoy fair chase. Even if it were legal to use in NY I don't think I would use it since my stands are on the perimeter of a huge cornfield. I prefer natural bait over the man made stuff any day.
  2. That sux! > I'm headed to Boston this weekend. Hopefully it will track further East and away from us.
  3. Toruk, your phone would not have worked anyway. All cell service crashed for about 20 mins after the quake.
  4. Felt on Long Island- North Shore. I was sitting in my car waiting for my kid to get out of camp and my car started shaking gently. I thought there was something wrong with my car. I got out and still felt the shaking and then I thought there was something wrong with me. Really weird feeling especially when you never felt one before. I guess I ain't moving to California anytime soon . . .
  5. Got 2 last year. Gave us a total of about 100lbs of meat. Gave 30lbs away and froze the rest. My son going to town on the last of the venison ribs.
  6. Very nice!!! Good luck getting him. He'll make a great wall mount!!
  7. The Swamp Buck does not have any dowels that I noticed. Only two solid iron rods that fit into the hoofs and pushed into the ground.
  8. Not a bad price. I just picked up the Delta Swamp Buck at Dicks. After $20 rebate and $20 in coupons, final total $59.99. Could not pass it up! It too has the replaceable vitals which you can use with fieldpoints and broadheads. ;D http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4283193
  9. I just picked up a Delta Swamp Buck 3D Archery Target for $59.99 at Dicks (On sale from $99.99, less a $20 mail in rebate and I had a $20 off coupon) Could not pass it up. I guess the hunting vibe keeps getting stronger . . . ;D
  10. Welcome Jimmy. I'm a newbie from LI too but hunt upstate in Germantown. You found a really good forum here. Very informative.
  11. I checked out the videos on the site as well as on Youtube. They are selling it as a "peepless" site or an "open site". There are three red dot reticles inside the housing which you can adjust the yardage in a similar manner as a regular bow site. From what I've read, you simply line up the red dots with an upside down triangle that's affixed to the inside of the top of the site window, take aim and shoot. I've read mixed reviews on it. Most of the good ones are from older bow hunters who have difficulty seeing through the peep. Other reviews are not so good and seem to be directed to the material used to construct the device. Also some complain its hard to set up. I've seen it advertised on the website for $130 and on Amazon for about $100. I'm not sure I want to drop $100-130 to see if it works for me. I may just stick with my good ol' truglo and peep.
  12. I'm thinking of switching to the TAS Sabo site. Does anyone have any experience with this site? http://www.tacticalarcherysystems.com/review/product/list/id/1/category/7/
  13. 4y but did not draw one this year. :'( Got a preference point though.
  14. For those states like NY where hunting with a bow mounted range finder may be illegal, I came up with an idea. I found an old iPod armband lying around and cut it a bit to fit the Leupold vendetta. I slipped the vendetta into the pouch and strapped it to my forearm. I ran the wire around the strap and attached a loop made out of Velcro around the trigger and attached it to my middle finger. I attached a fiber optic shotgun site on top of the vendetta to help with aiming. Whe holding my bow at full draw I can depress the button against the bow grip while looking down the site toward my target. Very little movement involved. It's not perfect but it serves my purpose. I'll post some pictures when I can.
  15. Last year I experimented with using a commercial scrape product and just peeing in a scrape. I made two scrapes about 50 yds apart. I Sprayed one with the commercial one and in the other I had my 10 yo son pee in it. I Set up two cameras. When I checked the cameras i couldn't believe it but most of the bucks visited the one with my son's pee. Guess where I placed my stand?
  16. Ok . . . well maybe not 24/7, but as opening day nears, it seems to wander into my thinking more often, especially when doing tedious computer work. I guess it doesn't help when my wall in my office is filled with turkey fans, horns and hides as well as pictures of the good times spent with friends and family. Steve863, I agree there are a lot more important things to think about (aside from your family which in my mind always comes first), such as . . .um . . . the Yankees battle with the Red Sox for first place . . .LOL! just kidding . . .
  17. Ok... so I'm sitting at my desk doing some work on my laptop and I can't stop thinking about opening day. Just wondering if it's only me, but is anyone else thinking about opening day 24/7?
  18. I just switched from Easton Aluminum to CX Heart Attack. Picked 6 up at Dicks for $40. Removed the plastic vanes, wrapped the arrows with blaze orange arrow wraps, slipped on some FOB's and CX lighted nocks. What a difference from the EA both in distance and accuracy with the FOBs.
  19. IMO bow hunting season should be two weeks earlier as is presently being proposed to the DEC and leave firearm alone. Many of us can only hunt on weekends during the bow and firearm seasons.
  20. Nice looking shed. I need to fix mine up a bit and nail in some shelves. I got stuff lying all around the shed in disorder.
  21. Hi All, I picked up my deer hide (hair off) approximately 9sqft, about a week ago and I can't figure out what to make out of the leather or where to send it to have it made. I was thinking driving gloves, belt or slippers. I would like to stay local in New York. Any suggestions?
  22. I just got an idea from Neverguessrangefinder.com. Its a forearm/wrist mounted rangefinder that is triggered with the push of a button strapped to your finger while pressing against the bow grip. I have some camera mounts and tripods lying around. I may give it a try to make one myself.
