  1. I would prefer morning so if I hit one, I can track it easily. My last 6 pt was taken at 7:30 AM. After about 20 minutes of tracking, dragging and hanging, I relaxed for the rest of the day.
  2. I was going to do it when I was 39 but decided against it only because my eye doctor told me that because of my condition (astigmatism and nearsightedness), I would still need reading glasses to read or use the computer. He also told me that if you do it before you reach your 40's the chances are high that you will have to do it again in your late 40's because your eyes change as you get older (no duh!) So I decided to keep wearing glasses although now I wear progressives . . . oy vey!
  3. Same here. Always try to be careful no matter what I'm doing around this time of year. I have a friend who ended up breaking his ankle in three places requiring surgery the evening before opening day a few years back. Needless to say, he missed out that season.
  4. Welcome! You found a great forum. Good Luck this season.
  5. Welcome! Time to do your share. Good luck!
  6. I feel your pain. My first time out with a bow I had a nice doe come out of the corn at 30 yds. Put my 30 yd pin on her and released. Believe it or not she jumped up at the sound of the string and my arrow shot right under her. She bolted and after about 15 minutes I went down and found my arrow with white hairs on it and a couple of drops of blood. I saw nothing on the ground anywhere near where she was. I followed in the direction she ran for about 100 yds and saw nothing. The next morning I went back out to look and saw nothing. To this day I'm still wondering what ever happened to her. Ive seen deer drop at the sound of the string but never jump up unless they were first hit.
  7. Hey now... That's the wife's job when we go up. While I'm In my treestand she goes antiquing with my 14 yo daughter. Although I wear Birkenstock sandals (which btw are very comfy), I don't go anywhere near those dust filled stores.
  8. Nice job! I can't wait to go out too!
  9. Went to Ortho today. No fracture but bad sprain. Getting better everyday. Put me in a cam boot. Hopefully it will heal fast enough to go up this weekend.
  10. Last time I looked, this IS a "Hunting forum". I do agree with you regarding the politics and taxes in New York, (which BTW also exists in many other states) I also suggest you reread my last post. I never claimed that "I" know better than everyone else. You are just assuming that. The point of my statement was all about giving respect to your fellow man/woman who actually do know better and who deserve the respect. This IMO has been the origin of many problems not only in New York but nationwide.
  11. I have lived in NY too for nearly 45 years. I'm probably just as dense as Outdoorstom. I also want to know how are we part of the "problem"? IMHO its the young wannabe "know-it-alls" that are the problem today especially when they show no respect to those who in fact do know better and deserve it. .
  12. I enjoy butchering my own deer. It is my way of completing the whole experience from scouting & glassing, to harvesting, processing and eventually consuming.

  14. Welcome Nice buck. I would at least do a rack mount or euro-mount. Simple to do yourself.
  15. Welcome to the forum. Stick around and you will learn a lot about hunting, fishing and conservation here. Congrats on the long bead.
