Nice story and great buck! I always say my prayers on the stand. And after I harvest an animal I kneel over it and give thanks.

Need help deciding on a new 30.06 and 12Ga
Deerthug replied to Tony7781's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
The Mossberg has a 22" Turkey and 28" field/waterfowl barrel. Here is the link for Dicks. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=12270521&ab=ACLN2_Link_Shotguns_TurkeyWaterfowl I use the 22" barrel and have never used the 28" yet. I may try it this coming spring which is only 5 months away. When I hunt I do so to get food, not to show off my firearm. I would love a nice Baretta but it would be sitting locked up in my safe most of the time and rarely see the light of day. I dont see it as a practical use gun. -
Need help deciding on a new 30.06 and 12Ga

Welcome to the forum. I shoot an older Remington 710 30-06 bolt. It shoots straight and far and is dead on accurate. I took 5 deer between 50-200 yards in the last 4 years . It is no longer made but Remington does make the 770 in 30-06 and a bolt. It is the same gun as the 710. In fact just ordered a new stock for my 710 and I was told by Remington that the 770 is identical. As far as a 12ga, I shoot a Mossberg 535 pump with interchangeable barrels. It's fairly inexpensive (at Dicks) and is also accurate. Shoots 2 3/4, 3, 3 1/2 inch shells. Took several turkeys with it as well. Kicks like a mule on the 3 1/2" shells. You can go more expensive like Baretta or Benelli with woodstock etc, but I'm happy with $300 Mossberg. It serves the same purpose as the others and I don't have to worry about damaging the wood finish. I hope this helps with your decision. -
Welcome to the forum. Great bunch of people here. Enjoy the ride!

Guy trying to clear obstruction in his .22 bolt action rifle shot himself in hand. I guess he didnt follow the rules - keep muzzle downrange, assume rifle is loaded, etc....or get help from range officer? http://www.news12.com/articleDetail.jsp?articleId=342986&position=1&news_type=news

Good luck Eddie! Smoke 'em! -
I plan on slow cooking my hind roasts. You can get a 6qt crock pot at Walmart for $40. I've been using mine for pulled pork. Going to try pulled venison this winter.

maybe you should look up . . .

New gps suggestions.
Deerthug replied to HuntOrBeHunted's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
IMO I've had several GPS devices but nothing beats the Waze app on my Iphone. It works better than my portable GPS devices. I've had both the Waze app and my Navigon GPS side by side and I have to say the Waze is more accurate. It, tells you live traffic data and gives you alternate routes. Best of all it's free. And no I don't work for Waze. LOL. -
Upside down from their ball$!!!!

Hopefully you scared him straight. I don't know if I would have done the same thing as you being that my family may be in danger from this guys stupidity. By giving this guy a second chance you may have set up a double edge sword - keeping the peace or giving this guy literally another shot to harm your family. IMO I'd rather have my family safe than keeping the peace. You can always put up a fence . . .

Thanks for the congrats. I'm happy with the meat yield I have. To me it looks like 200lbs. LOL! @Elmo, waiting for muzzy season in three weeks. We'll see! Depends on how much meat my wife decides to give away to friends before then. )

The buck was 190 live weight and doe was just about 90 live weight. Thats 280lbs live weight less 30-40 lbs for the guts. I'm guestimating the total meat between 200-225lbs. - Jordan Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I have nearly 200lbs of meat between the two deer. I think I'm good even if i give away 50lbs.

Congrats. Now your freezer shall be full. Lol.

Uggh! Thats a horrible feeling. I dropped my Remi 30-06 this past weekend after shooting the biggest deer of my life. Had it tied to my tow rope or so I thought and as I started to lower it the rope untied and I watched in horror as my gun fell 15 feet to the ground. Not a good feeling though it was unloaded. Thankfully only the stock broke and the scope and barrel survived. Already ordered a new stock from Remington. Guy felt bad so he saved me $15 shipping and reduced the price by $10.

Thanks Eddie. Same to you and the family.
