Since I havn't had a shot at a deer with the crossbow I guess I would quote someone by saying , "at this point , what difference does it make" ! First Light suggested the Carbon Express Torrid SS expandables . That's what I have to try out . Hopefully this morning will be the day .

I like to be at my stand an hour before sunrise so tomorrow I plan to be there by 6 am . Like said above , it gives the woods time to settle especially if you bump any deer going to the stand . I get my gear up in the stand and settle back and watch the sun rise , etc .. It's about 1/2 mile walk to the stand I plan to use tomorrow unless my youngest son comes with us . It is forecasted to be 27 degrees tomorrow at 7 am .

My son and I went to his friend's property on Cambier Road in Palmyra yesterday . It was dark at 5:30 but lightened up fast . I sat in a stand that I set up last year and never liked the location . My oldest son sat in his brother's stand in the woods . We sat until almost 11 . I never saw a thing and had pretty good visibility . My son saw a small buck and took a shot with no luck . We took down my stand and the double stand that someone had taken the bottom section from . Matt brought a section from another stand so we could do this . No sense in repairing this stand only to have someone mess it up again . We plan to go to Geneseo Saturday and hunt the morning and then attempt to finish cutting up a fallen tree that was blocking the laneway a couple months ago . Hopefully we will take the two stands and set them up on the property .

I let my son shoot the Decocking Bolt today . He shoy at a spot 10 yards away while on the ground and it skipped across the ground and went about 60 yards . OOPS !

Fletch - Are we going to get a deer during bow season this year ?

I don't like the idea of getting down from the stand with the bow cocked while lowering it . I decided to take a practice arrow along and take a test shot before getting down from the ladder stand . The problem is ... the X-bow will bury the arrow if it's too close . The discharge bag sounds like a good idea but I carry enough excess junk in the car as it is .......

I bought a Golf Ball Retriever at WalMart and cut the top part of the Circular thing off . The retriever is adjustable and holds the roof up quite well . It was a $13 investment to save $100 .

The "Hub" blinds are the way to go . Quite roomy . You also need a chair . Problem with chair is if you are on soft ground the legs will sink and be uneven . I left one out for 2 years and it was trashed by the weather . I replaced it with a new one and tried to shoot an arrow out of it . This was from an elevated platform . The new blind was different and the bottoms of the windows were higher . I would have to stand up to shoot . The Ameristep Dog House blinds are fine for gun / crossbow and also need a chair . These are the springy ones that fold up into a round backpack . They are worthless for shooting a bow out of them . I am only 5'8" with a 28" draw and the aren't big enough drawing a bow from . These blinds aren't sturdy enough to leave out for any length of time .
