On page 38 of the Regs Booklet , it looks rather confusing . It states that during the 3 day special .... Junior hunters (ages 14-15) will be eligible to take one deer of either sex with a firearm during this season and may use a Deer Management Permit , Deer Management Assistance Program tag or a regular season tag .

Then there must be heck of a lot of coyote food out there ! -
It's you . It was a 4 legged doe . I didn't drag it out into the field for a photo opportunity .

Saw 4 doe and 2 bucks this am in Pittsford - Mendon this am . There is one less doe now . Got her at about 20 yards . All I have to do now is clean up the meat , do some grinding and packaging . By clean up the meat I mean cutting away the fat , silver , etc ..

I only ever had a buck come to a decoy once . I was told to have the doe decoy facing away as a buck would approach the doe from the back . Apparently the buck didn't read the same report and approached from the front facing me . One of my sister in law's horses ran up to the fence , whinnied and the buck ran off . I couldn't get him to come back .

Shoved off for the Pittsford - Mendon area at 5 am . Was in the stand by 6 am after cutting a few weeds and some low hanging branches . Just before 8 am I saw some deer way across the field . There were 4 anterless and a few minutes later I saw a deer with a small rack . The buck went into the gulley but the does with fawns eased along the edge of the field heading my way . I was in a box blind that I had gotten a few deer out of over the years . As they got closer I stood up and held my bow out over the rail ( learned from a previous mistake to do this ) . Drew back , leaned and let go . Got one of the doe at about 20 yards . I thought they were going to turn into the thick stuff a couple times and didn't want to take a chance on no shot . At least there is one tag that I won't be eating this year !

Big mistake going out today . It was calm early this am but the wind picked up later on . A small amount of rain that didn't matter . Saw absolutely nothing . Finally said to heck with it . Should have stayed home today . To top it off , I shot a practice arrow and couldn't find it . I'll look for it again another day . When I woke up at 3:45 this am I had the sweats , A piercing headache and and upset stomach . Took a while for things to settle down but I still had the sweats until about 8:30 am . I was in the stand by 6:30 .

I zip tie the tag to an ear , tuck it inside and zip tie the ear closed to I don't lose it . I put the tag with the meat in the freezer .

I scrapped all of mine had them going back to 1965 . They were just taking up space .

Heading for Geneseo again . Rain forecasted several times today but ya gotta do what ya gotta do . It is expected to be windy with 10- 14 mph winds a good part of the day from the SW and then West . My Pod Blind is on the West side of the property but not movable so it's not a good spot due to wind direction . Hopefully a dumb deer might come in ...........

Congrats ..... I know many bow hunters , myself included , that aren't seeing much deer and havn't gotten a shot yet . -
You can make Jerky out of ground . All you need is a Jerkey Shooter . It looks like a caulking gun . http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=401089 http://www.webstaurantstore.com/weston-37-0211-w-1-lb-jerky-gun-jr/9430211W.html?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping&gclid=CjwKEAjwns6hBRDTpb_jkbTv1UYSJACBhber3ARLghnznvh3oY-3Wa66qQIoqR8tqtGUFK3xLRtRMxoCBGjw_wcB

A Hub Blind has straps to carry it like a backpack but is uncomfortable to walk with . You could haul it along with a fold up chair with a golf cart or deer hauler cart .
-
I gave away a single chair blind as it was too uncomfortable and restricted the view . I replaced it with a 2-man chair blind and use it for gun hunting . I cannot conceive trying to shoot a bow out of it . I am only 5'8" and even the pop up blind like the Ameristep Dog House blind is too small because you have to stick the arrow out when you draw and can still hit your elbow on the back wall . The hub blinds are hefty and you need a folding chair but that's the way I would go . Most are easy to set up .

I don't care for Remington products but I have had good luck taking deer with Remington Express 120 gr Core-Lokt ammo . I have also taken a few with reloads using Sierra Game King 117 gr spitzers with Hodgden 4831 powder and an OAL of 3.155" . I recently purchased 3 boxes of Hornaday American Whitetail 117 gr Interlocks to try out ..... Didn't really need them but the price was pretty good . A 270 is an excellent deer round and less expensive than the 25-06 .

All my outfits were Olive Drab . I was in the Corps 1959-1963 . We weren't issued any camo .

I never climb into a stand without wearing my safety harness . One morning I climbed up , hanged my pack , pulled up my bow and put it on the holder with a nocked arrow . Sat back and relaxed . About 15 minutes later I moved and realized I hadn't fastened the harness to the tree safety strap . Duh !
