  1. You could also go to GOOGLE Earth and get a map of the area . Then walk the area and look for tracks in and out of the wooded spots . Mark those on your map . It might give you an idea of where to expect to see the deer . Like 4 Seasons said , set up a camera and get an idea of what is there and also ask the farmer where he is seeing them . Farmers are out all day long and see things that we wouldn't unless we were there several hours .
  2. Maybe the youngsters should be educated on Party Politics . After all , a lot of them have probably been brain washed by the Liberal teachers .
  3. Here is the cutoff saw video I made a few years ago . As you can imagine it is very unprofessional .
  4. Gee Doc , you are soooooo optimistic !!!
  5. I have cut several of my own arrows as well as for others with the home made saw . My youngest son shoots Easton FMJ's and it cut them with ease . I also use an Arrow Squaring Device made by G5 .
  6. Nice , I have never gotten a bear on any cam but my son did in Italy Vallet south of Potter . Nice pics .
  7. I bought the mini chop saw at Harbor Freight a few years ago and made one . I removed the blade that came with it and added an abrasive blade to the saw .
  8. One of those Bucket Trucks would make a nice stand ............
  9. Correction ,,,,, I said Webster but it's just across the line and in Penfield . I still consider it Webster . Here are the standard conditions for the Deer Damage Permits .
  10. The farmer is starting me out with one permit . If all goes well , I will get more . From the sheet I saw , he probably has at least 15 shooters . Just trying to help the farming community . I drove out to the properties a while ago to see what they look like . Pretty muddy and you have to walk quite a ways to get back to any tree line and far enough away from any dwellings at one spot . Can't park or drive in the fields where I 1st looked . At another spot , I drove about 50 yards off the road into an opening in a bean field and saw a doe approximately 120 yards out feeding . She glanced up at me took about 10 steps in my direction and went back to feeding . So , that area looks promising .
  11. Culver Creek - I couldn't watch the full 5 minutes and went back to View New Content ...........
  12. I prefer a Treestand while bow hunting to give me more visibility and hope that any of my scent would dissipate by the time it gets to ground level . I think a stand helps for close up hunting . When gun hunting , I prefer a blind to be out of the cold wind , rain and snow .
  13. I get to my stand before sunrise . I will stay until at least noon . I may take an hour break , change stands and stay until almost dark . I have a 50+ mile drive home so I don't hunt the next day . I'm old and need the sleep time .
  14. Seriously , I was going to buy a pair . I have $100 in gift cards for TCS and they have $15 off the boots . The sale ends today . Here is what I found (http://beefmagazine.com/blog/muck-boots-fires-aggies-facebook)
  15. Gee , apparently everything that is on the Internet isn't true .
  16. Doc , I have a NEF 25-06 single shot to take deer . I have never hunted the properties . I don't want to go in blind without not knowing what the surroundings are . The farmer gave me an 11"X17" Satellite map and marked off the fields he wants hunted . I plan to at least check out the areas in the next couple of days .
  17. Yes , I am cutting it up . It has to be done quickly in this weather . I have been doing my own butchering for several years . The processors would most likely be closed in the evening ( after 5 or 6 pm ) and I wouldn't want to wait until morning . It would probably take me longer to drag the deer than driving the 10 miles to home . I have an electric hoist in the garage and it doesn't take long to skin and cut up the deer . Once the meat is in the fridge , the processing doesn't have to be that fast ( within a reasonable time ) . I'll keep an eye on the weather and look for a cooler am or pm day to do any shooting but I realize the farmer wants some quick results . It is amazing how fast the flies can get to a dead animal . They can get to a dead animal before you can so everything has to be done rather quickly . .
  18. What's to know . There is a sheet that must be signed by the Agent and the Permittee . It explains what has to be done and what is legal . If the rules / regulations are not followed with all conditions it could result denial of future permits and may be considered violations of State and local laws . Your little remark about blasting them at night with a light pretty much set me off . Even though permit holders are allowed to take the deer 1/2 hour before sunrise and up to 10 pm , I don't hunt in the dark .
  19. Grow --- I have a single permit that allows me to take one anterless deer . If I do well , he has more to give out . The property is only about 10 miles from my home . I am not crazy about doing the shooting in the summer but , if it isn't me , it would be someone else . It might be an opportunity to hunt closer to home during regular season once I fill a tag or two . .............
  20. I guess I should have expected this from someone . I have taken deer in the past with the Damage permits in Mendon but I don't hunt at dark with a spotlight even though it is legal . It doesn't make sense that a person would be allowed to take deer up to 11pm . I sure wouldn't want to hear someone shooting when it's dark out . He has several guys shooting deer on the properties . The guy owns / farms several hundred acres and has a lot of bean crops , christmas trees , etc .. I havn't know the farmer for very long and I don't doubt that he has people hunting his land during Regular Seasons . By the way --- the land isn't fenced in either ............
