  1. Grow ... good advice . That sucker is heavy and shows a two man lift for safety on the carton . A chain or cable would be okay but the lock could be cut . If someone wanted it bad enough , they could dig to the Quick Crete and break it up with a sledge hammer . I guess it wouldn't hurt to hide a Trail cam near it .
  2. I am getting this for Christmas . When I ordered it , it was $248 plus tax and free shipping . The stand is HEAVY ! I plan to set the platform up in the summer and place the hub blind on it in maybe August . http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ameristep-Brickhouse-Blind-and-6-Vantage-Point-Quad-Pod-Value-Bundle/32176756
  3. Congrats ... nice going . Were you wearing snow shoes ?
  4. I got unemployment when I got out of the Marine Corps . I was out a month before getting a job . I got a big check for something like $23 . It was the only one I ever got .
  5. Congrats ! I hope you weren't trying to revive the deer with the bottled water .
  6. Unposted Property --- I don't go on someone's property unless I have permission even if it's not posted . I know the boundaries of the properties I hunt . It only seems right .
  7. They used to do a "Bait and Shoot" in Irondequoit with off duty police officers . It was costing the town a lot of money . They started a program to let bow hunters shoot the deer and that program has been in effect for several years now , saving the town quite a bit of money . When Xerox was laying off quite a few people years ago , someone was going around the office saying ," they are are giving away free coffee and donuts in the cafeteria but don't go , it's a bait and shoot" !
  8. I bought some Hoppe's #9 cologne at Walmart last week .
  9. Are you supposed to put "fake water" on a fake tree ? Hmmmmmmm .
  10. Wow .... that's quite an article . Net some of those deer and send them up here !
  11. check this out http://www.midwayusa.com/find?userSearchQuery=Marlin+336+gun+stock
  12. You can probably buy a replacement stock at MIDWAY ............
  13. Went to Geneseo this am . Set the 2 man chair blind on the pond bank next to some schubery for concealment . Around 9 am , I saw a blur running across the grassy area about 150 yards north of me and then it broke towards the woods . Don't know if it was a doe or buck . It was hauling butt . Around 11:30 I walked back to my car about 1/2 mile away . Got something to eat drink and then headed for the thick stuff . The land doesn't drain and it was sloppy walking . Lots of trails criss-crossing in that crap . Walked part of the woods and nothing . Went back to the blind and sat until 4:15 and left . Oh yeah , around 3:30 I heard 5 quick shots , then another quick 5 and then 5 shots spaced . It was a ways north west of me . Not sure what the shooter was doing .
  14. Just not used to it ..... Squeezing some dead space before actually pulling the trigger . I will put a bunch of rounds through the shotgun in the spring and see if works for me .
  15. This would be me ............
  16. I have been waiting for Paula or Grow to chime in on this thread !
  17. Yes . Even took it when we spent 3 weeks in Cyprus . Without it , I would sometimes stop breathing for a few seconds .
  18. I shot some Varmints for a Tree Farmer a few years ago . His wife said how much do you charge and I told her nothing . She said ," we''ll have to fix that . When the season gets here , you will have a free tree " . Got a Fraser Fir . It replaced our old "JB Hunter" artificial tree and we have been buying a real tree since then . Paid $40 for a pre-cut Fraser Fir tree at Wilberts in Webster . They were $30 if you cut your own . It was worth the extra $10 not to have to wander around and lay on the ground to cut one down !
  19. For you guys that wear wool , check out The Sportsman's Guide Store for military surplus wool sweaters .
  20. I have Sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine but I still wake up a couple times in the middle of the night to pee but I can go right back to sleep . I havn't learned to not drink liquids after supper . I can sleep for 8 hours and still be tired .
  21. This has been a crappy year for me also . Was seeing deer on the Trail Cam but for the past few weeks , it has been during the dark hours . I will be heading for Geneseo in the am with my 50 cal in-line . Just over a week left and then I can stay in where it's warm .
  22. I have the insoles that have slots to put a hand warmer in each one . They don't work that well .That along with merino wool socks and an outer layer . Better than nothing . It was cold today and the only way to warm up was to walk . The wind made the cold quite bitter . When I hunt alone I take a sleeping bag and put it over my shoulders and that works quite well in a Blind .
  23. Met up with Alan at the Burger King in Fishers at 6 am . He led the way and it was like a convoy . He calls the hunting a Co-op and has to schedule when he wants to hunt with the land owners ( 4 days only ) . There were specific rules as to where to park , which direction to shoot , the line you had to be beyond before loading any guns , and no guts could be left on the property . There were 10 of us and I was dropped off at a spot to watch over a gully . Heard shots here and there . Around 10 am , I heard 3 quick shots and all of a sudden 6 deer came hauling ass about 30 yards in front of me . They were too fast and it wouldn't have been a safe shot . The only possibility I had for a shot was a fork horn about 120 yards down the bank . I cranked off a shot while he was moving slow and missed . Climbed down the bank to check it out and no blood . Found out later that Alan shot it so someone got a deer . My hands and body were sooooooooo cold and i'm not sure that I like the accu-trigger on the Savage 220F . Around noon I walked back to the car . It was almost a mile away and downhill . Got something to eat / drink and went back until 4 pm . Didn't see anything in the afternoon . I was told that there was no hunting across the gully on the other side of a foot / bike trail as a couple of doctors own that property and don't allow hunting . I had heard shots over there and Alan said I must be wrong . One of the guys in our party hit a doe and trailed it over there and found a guy in "full camo" that finished it off . We were guessing that he wasn't supposed to be there . Heard several shots come from over there in the morning. A couple of the crew were in their 80's . I asked Alan if we needed to show our AARP cards to hunt that property . Anyway I saw deer ........
  24. Write to the guy and ask him where these over populated forests are located .
