  1. You are correct . The pic in the lower right is a Tekan II which is illegal . The blades on a Rage 3 don't pivot forward and are illegal also .

  3. My wife bought me a set of Outdoor Edge knives for Christmas . They are supposed to be fairly good . I had also bought a Wusthof Boning knife with leather sheath on EBAY for $17.50 plus $9.99 shipping . I had the winning bid . Saw some with some real high prices so I think I got a deal . The biggest problem I have with butchering my own is that I have arthritis in both hands . It is rather difficult to pull off the hide and grasp the "silver skin" to cut that off . But ..... I get it done . p.s. --- the air skinner doesn't work very well on a deer that has been field dressed ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/pissed.gif[/img]...http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/pissed.gif[/img]
  4. One-Shot got me . I figured he had typed too fast and had misspelled Grinder . Then again , I think he just bailed himself out . ')'>http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/newrollinglaugh.gif[/img]
  5. Back in the 60's , I was invited to a group hunt at a ex high school classmates huge farm . There was about 20 of us and we had a big breakfast first . We were split into 2 teams ( posters and drivers ) . It was bucks only back then . One team posted and the others drove . Then we would switch . On about the 3rd drive we were walking through a large woods about 50 yards apart . A buck bolted and ran from in front of us heading toward us . I was carrying my shotgun at port arms and swung it up and over towadrs the buck as he was past us . I saw the guy who had been to my left swinging his shotgun horizontally following the deer in his sights . My heart stopped momentarily . Afterward , I thought , what if he had pulled the trigger while the buck was between us . It gave me a queezy feeling . I told my friend that I didn't feel well and had to leave thanking him for the opportunity to hunt on his property . I have not done any deer drives since then except for a a few 2 person drives with my son or sister in law .
  6. Sounds good . I have an In-line ML that would leave me out of the loop but it would give the Trad Guys a break and that's okay . I like the Oct 1 start . Since it makes sense , it probably won't happen .
  7. I had seen the report before . The guy had a rope tied to the trigger guard . ??? .. ??? .. ??? as for retraining , how much Hunter Safety can you cram down one's throat ? The Archery safety was more of what the Gun Safety was all about and most of it is COMMON SENSE ! Testing folks for common sense would be more appropriate ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/2cents.gif[/img]
  8. I never owned one but I always thought they were cool !
  9. Either we are too lazy to put a list together , don't have anything to offer or just don't care . I don't have any bullets to trade .
  10. Never had one not open and they leave a big hole !
  11. I use a HME Universal Mount Bow Holder on my ladderstands
  12. I bought a DEXTER 6" Sani-Safe wide boning knife at Pagliuso's Meat Market in Ontario for $15 . He said that's what they use in their business . High carbon steel blade . Check with your local butcher . About 3 years ago I purchased a meat grinder at DICK's for $50 on sale at half price . I have put a few deer through it . Check Amazon.com for grinders http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_5_26?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=meat+grinders+for+home+use&sprefix=meat+grinders+for+home+use
  13. I try not to screw anything into the trees where I have stands . I doubt one or two screws would do any damage but I try to avoid it . I have several stands on different properties .
  14. Both of the DEC guys I talked to said the Rage 3's are illegal and are considered barbed . The Gander Mt store in Henrietta had a sign by the Rage 3 display stating that they are illegal to use in NYS ( but they can still sell them ) . I'll stick with the rage 2's ......
  15. Sorry Wooly but I just had to pick on an old NYDEER buddy . Another method of hanging a backpack would be to carry an extra rachet or cinch strap . Run the strap through the straps on the backpack and tighten . No holes needed ......
  16. Wooly -- How much structural damage is caused by the bolt holes that are used to retain the seat , and the platform brackets as well as the ladder sections ?
  17. Spring is in the air and it's snowing out ........ ???
  18. I don't care who you are , that's funny !
  19. Slow reload ??? You only need one shot ! If someone is unable or too feeble to draw a bowstring , a crank would simplify things . Isn't that the thought process of using a crossbow to begin with to get women , kids into the woods that are unable to draw a bowstring as well as aiding the physically handicapped .
  20. Drill a hole in the rail , seat , etc of your chain-on or ladderstand . Put an eyebolt with 2 nuts and a lock washer in the hole . Tighten it down . Use a carabiner and hang your backpack via the eyebolt . The backpack will be in easy reach !
  21. That's why they are called "tree rats " .........
  22. We drove to Florida a couple weeks ago and stopped at Etowah , NC ( a suburb of Ashville ) to visit some friends . They have white squirrels that come to the feeders and they are not albinos . Legend has it that a Circus had come to town over 70 years ago and the squirrels escaped . The squirrels were quite nervous so I took pics from the sun room through the screen .
