I have a quiver that holds the arrow shaft top and bottom and the Rages seem to stay closed in it . Just make sure the blades are locked before you nock an arrow . Also ........ practice locking the blades as it takes a bit of practice to get them right . http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/2cents.gif[/img]

I can see through the peep okay as i am using the distance lens for shooting . I will give it a try for a couple of weeks and hopefully things will get better . I'm glad someone else has experienced the change of life .

Who uses pop-up blinds for deer? Are they effective?
fasteddie replied to nyslowhand's topic in General Hunting
If you have a new one , it would be a good idea to set it up and let it air out ..... -
I have bi-focals and havn't been wearing them much . I have been wearing reading glasses when I need to see things close up . I have been wearing the prescription glasses the last few times when shooting in the back yard . Boy ! It is taking some getting used to !!!!!

Who uses pop-up blinds for deer? Are they effective?

Last year when two of my sons were hunting in Mendon . They had blinds set up in a hedge row .My youngest son moved his several yards North which made it visible from the road (if someone had real good eyesight) . It came up missing . It had been staked down and didn't blow away . Whoever swiped it , didn't take the cover . Damn thieves ! -

What time will you be in your stand and are you sitting the whole day?
fasteddie replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Two years ago I was hunting with my sons in South Bristol on property close to the lake . We agreed to meet back at the vehicles at 11 am if nothing was going on . About 11:15 I was at my S10 . I put the tailgate down and was making a sandwich . Two beautiful bucks and a doe charged out of the gully and crossed the drive into the brush on the other side . I walked up the drive a few yards to see where they had exited the gulley and they took off again . Apparently they had crossed and laid down . My oldest son was walking up the drive from the other direction with his recurve . I signaled him to let him know about the deer . He nocked an arrow and went up the drive a bit . One of the bucks was standing in an open spot . My son started to draw but didn't see the doe standing off to the side . She took off and the two bucks hauled butt . No shot . Anyway , the deer were moving around at noon time so you never know ! -
A little bit of sparing -- Bucks are Practicing
fasteddie replied to fasteddie's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
It's fun to watch the bucks push away at each other but it would be real neat to see an actual fight . -
If they are going to start Oct 1st I would think it would screw up the bow hunting for this year . But ...... taking trees out should help for next year as new growth will start up and be a food source for the deer . My son had his property logged and it improved the hunting .

I forgot about the chair blind . I have one of those also . You are pretty much contrained in a chair blind and it's only good for gun hunting . I think it would be better for pistol than rible . Although you can see out the side windows , it is difficul to get a rifle through them to shoot . Can't much gear inside of a chair blind . Once you are in it , it is difficult to try to lift it and turn the blind to adjust it . You are pretty cramped in one . But .......... it works ! -

Opening day I would plan on being setup 45 -60 before light . I will stay out all day between a ladderstand and possibly my hub blind . I would have to haul the blind about 400 - 500 yards downhill with a web chair so I use an old golf cart ............ -
Probably 20 yards . My closest was 7 yards and my farthest was 35 . I would say most of my bow kills have been around 20 yards .

My anti hunter friends will continue to be friends . They know I hunt and don't preach any anti hunting crap . They are not PETA folks either . They just don't believe in hunting and that's their right .......

I have a Teepee blind , a couple of DogHouse blinds and 2 Hub Blinds . The hub blind would be the best to shoot out of while bow hunting as it is roomy (although I have not shot out of it) . The Doghouse is pretty small to draw a bow in but great for gun hunting . The Teepee blind is good for gun hunting only . -
I recall seeing a video where they had a decoy setup and the guy had his kid shoot a muzzle loader out the window . It was funny because the old man thought his kid missed and they were reloading the ML inside the vehicle .

Not me . I am shooting the Arrow Dynamics Big Game Hunters . They are a heavy arrow but not as heavy a the Grizzlys my son shoots .

Lesson for campers: Don't feed the bears
fasteddie replied to HuntingNY-News's topic in New York State Hunting News
I remember what a job the Racoons would do in Alleghaney State park years ago . You had to store your food in a vehicle . They would shred the styrafoam coolers and could open the latch on coolers . I can just imagine what a bear could do ! -
You have some activity at that spot ! Nice .........

Guys that hunt some property next to my son's property in Italy Valley hung a stand less than 10 yards from my son's line facing his property . My son strongly suggested that they move the stand and they did . There is over 1800 acres of state land east of the properties and was no need to infringe on one another's land . The hunters don't own the adjacent land or even help with any upkeep . They just hunt there .

I bought a 16' aluminum ladder at a garage sale 2 years ago for $20 , painted it camo and cable locked it to a chain-on .

I have a Ruger Super redHawk in 44 mag with a 2X Leopold scope on it but I don't do any hunting with it .....

http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local&id=4209059 Decided not to file charges why? Because of his football scholarship from other sources Ive seen. Him and Ben Rothlesburger should be roomies. If Sanchez had been charged and found guilty , would he have been sent back to Mexico ? http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/crazynew2.gif[/img]
