  1. If you decide to Lime it to adjust the PH , we got a deal on lime from CountryMax because we bought 40 bags of granular lime . I am assuming you may need a lot . Bulk lime is even cheaper . We had to go up a real steep hill and there was no way to get any bulk delivered .
  2. I usually find Gander Mt kinda pricy compared to Dicks , etc but they are having a sale . I spent $45 plus tax on a few items . They have some Reminton Express Core-Lokt bullets in 30-06 , 270 , 243 , and 308 for $12.99 . Ya can't beat that price !
  3. This topic has been moved to Trail Camera Pictures. [iurl]http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?topic=1121.0[/iurl]
  4. In my younger years , I bought log loads , cut the wood to length and then split it by hand . That's kinda rough on the wrists ! Then i started buying wood cut to length that I had to split .I found out that i could buy the wood split for $5 more a facecord and bought it split . I havn't bought wood or used the stove in 2 years .
  5. I had my last cigarette Dec 24 , 1979 at 8 am on my back deck . My Dad was a life long smoker and died of Lung Cancer at the age of 66 on Nov 11 of that year . It took my father dying to make me quit .
  6. I GOOGLED Homemade Scent Killer and there were numerous posts with the recipe . They said to use the 3 percent hydrogen peroxide .
  7. Wow ........28 states plus a few Canadian Provinces
  8. I'm glad that I re-read your post . I was going to ask what kind of peroxide .....
  9. Larry ..... would you go out and scout the area and then hang the stands for them ? They certainly don't do it themselves !
  10. I quit smoking Dec 24 , 1979 at 8 am . I used to smoke while shotgun hunting . A couple times , I had to set my cigarette down so I could shoot . It never seemed to bother the deer . This was during bucks only hunting . I had does come within 10 yards of me while I was smoking . Go figure !
  11. I will have to give that a try . It has to be easier than the phone .
  12. The 3 huge fields I saw the deer in were cut hay fields . There are a few houses around but no building tracts . My son is hoping to be able to eventually hunt a couple of these properties ( not the 251 / 65 ) property . Another place I have seen a crapload of deer is on Sheldon Road . It's off Rt 65 south of Mendon Ponds Park .......
  13. The only problem I have had with reporting is getting through or not be sure if my call was taken / verified . I have had to call a few times to get a tag reported . I wonder how many folks give up after the 1st try .
  14. Personally , I am too lazy to make my own and come up with containers to store it in . Someone on here mentioned the Hunter's Specialties "Scent Away Spray" working great . I bought a 12 oz spray bottle for $4.95 at Wally-World with a $2 rebate on the bottle . It most likely would be cheaper to have made my own but this worked for me . As the Viper stated , people enjoy the do-it-yourself approach !
  15. I did some deer drives many many years ago and wouldn't do it again ( except for a 2 man drive with my son ) . I had hunted with a large group at a friend's property in Groveland . We were walking about 50 yards apart in a huge woods . A buck came running back between myself and the guy to my left . I swung my shotgun up and over to shoot behind us and I saw the guy to my left swinging his gun horizontally as the deer was running by . My heart stopped momentarially as I thought "what if that guy had pulled the trigger when the deer was lined up with me . That was my last Party drive !
  16. We bought an airtight woodstove about 20 years ago . Havn't used it in two years .We have a 4 bedroom colonial and it heated a good part of the house . It really dries out the air so we always put a pan of water on it for moisture . I had placed a register in the floor in the upstairs hallway to get some heat up there and some heat could travel up the stairway . We used to burn about 6+ facecords of mixed hardwood a season . I would always panic if I left the house and wasn't positive as to whether or not I had closed the damper ....... I was buying split hardwood in 10 facecord loads for about $50 a facecord but that was a few years ago .
  17. I saw close to 60 deer tonight . There was at least 15 in a field across from my son's house , over 30 in a cut hay field about 1/4 mile down the road and over 12 in a field on Quaker Meeting House Road in Honeoye Falls . It was light enough to see the deer in a couple fields but the video camera wouldn't focus in on the deer .
  18. I have tried cat whiskers in the past and didn't care for them . Went to the Sims string leeches and stuck with those .
  19. Apparently the price of the rattlers has come way down in the past 2 years . I had seen sonme listed in the $100 range in the past .
  20. Yes and I posted the info ............
  21. You young whipper-snappers come up with more excuses . J/K Once I have one of the ladderstands set up . I usually remove the straps that you attach to hold the stand to the tree when 1st setting up . The next time you set up another stand , take the "extra" straps along . Get the rachet strap started when you are standing on the ground so it won't pull apart and attach one of the extra straps on each end . When you climb the ladder , pull the rachet strap up with the straps and attach the ends to the platform . If you have limbs in the way , you might have a problem .
  22. Definately BBQ ( with salt potatoes) and some BBQ'd veggies ...... The wife and I will be there this afternoon with our Bibs !
  23. Are you serious ? Some of those Rattlers were in the $100 range ........
  24. The name list is only as good as as the Processors that notify the DEC that they do or no longer participate ....
