  1. I was in my Pond Blind Stand by 6:10 this am . About 8:30 5 doe ran down through the big field . Too much brush in the way for a shot . My 2 sons were in the woods . My oldest son shot a doe around 9:30 . In the afternoon , my son spotted a trespasser and let me know he was wandering in the woods . About an hour later I spotted the guy and called to him . He came up to my stand and I realized it was the next door neighbor . We exchanged pleasantries and he left . I told him that when he came through the thickets that he kicked out a doe it it was hauling butt . I got down at 5pm and headed back to my car . Waited for my sons to get up to where we parked and we chatted for a bit and I left . Did I mention that it was ccccold !
  2. I just hope that there will be some hunters out there moving the deer . Good luck !
  3. I hope to be sitting in my stand by 6am ...........
  4. A friend shared this and I found it interesting. Pretty Amazing! A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion: There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin .. Allow me to restate that number: 600,000! Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world. (That’s more men under arms than in Iran . More than France and Germany combined. ) These men, deployed to the woods of a single American state, Wisconsin, to hunt with firearms, and NO ONE WAS KILLED. That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods ofPennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters, ALL OF WHOM HAVE RETURNED HOME SAFELY. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. And then add in the total number of hunters in the other 46 states. It's millions more. ________ The point? _______________________________________ America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower! Hunting... it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security. *************************************** That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed. Food for thought, when next we consider gun control, whether you agree with it or not. Overall it's true, so if we disregard some assumptions that hunters don't possess the same skills as soldiers, the question would still remain... What army of 2 million would want to face 30 million, 40 million, or 50 million armed citizens??? For the sake of our freedom, don't ever allow gun control or confiscation of guns. (IF YOU AGREE, AS I DO, PASS IT ON, I FEEL GOOD THAT I HAVE AN ARMY OF MILLIONS WHO WOULD PROTECT OUR LAND AND I SURE DON'T WANT THE GOVERNMENT TAKING CONTROL OF THE POSSESSION OF FIREARMS) GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
  5. It would be quite easy to forget this and then be in trouble and lose your pistols . I just looked at my paper work and see where I submitted it in 2018 . I have two more years before re-certifying .
  6. I will be using my NEF 25-06 single shot most of the time . If I do any hunting in Monroe County I will use my Savage 20 gauge . Good Luck to all .
  7. Oh , okay , thanks . I hadn't seen water rat on any of the hunting sites . So the only place I had seen him was on the Todays Chuckle Forum . I should have known that from his name . Thanks ...
  8. I'm not sure that water rat hunts . I have only seen his posts in Todays Chuckle ... Maybe I missed something .
  9. What hunting gear purchase did you make that you regret for any reason ? Mine was The Rescue One Controlled Descent System . I paid something like $130 for it , opened the package and never used it . I believe it's more for someone who goes up 20-30 feet and didn't seem feasible to wear it in a 15' ladder stand as my Hunter Safety System seems appropriate enough for that . I was going to give the Rescue One to my oldest son but he hasn't used his climber in a few years . Anyone else have any purchase regrets ?
  10. Sat on a 5 acre property in Honeoye Falls this am . Was in the blind by 6:15 and stayed until 11:15 . Never saw a thing . Neither did my son . 3 years using the X-bow and still haven't gotten a shot with it on a deer . I put it away when I got home and I am getting ready for the Saturday Gun Opener .
  11. On the way to our hunting area , I saw 3 doe by the roadside waiting to cross over and go to the huge corn field . I bet there are a lot of deer bedded down in that field . I hope the farmer cuts it soon so the deer will move . Sat in a chair at the base of the tree where my stand is and where I shot a buck last month . Saw 3 doe at different times traveling in the neighbor's field . I was seated at 6:10 am and stayed until 11:00 . Pulled a few SD cards from some cameras . My oldest son saw a few deer in that field also . Matt stayed the day and Nick joined him for an afternoon hunt . I went home .
  12. Will be heading for Geneseo in a little bit . Forecast in the low 30's with flurries around 8 and fairly breezy with the wind shifting . Weather doesn't sound great but can't shoot anything from here . 2 of my sons will be with me .
  13. If a man says he will do something , he will . He doesn’t have to be reminded every 6 months !
  14. I prefer a Bi-pod . It's more stable than a Mono-pod . If I put the two feet together on the bi-pod , it can be used like a mono-pod . My son bought me a Caldwell Tri-pod thing that I have never used and is still in the box . It takes up too much room and is too bulky .
  15. I was dressed and almost ready to leave for Geneseo when my son called and cancelled . Accu Weather shows rain a good part of the morning . No sense in getting soaked . I don't mind a light rain but not a soaker . Weather Bug doesn't show rain . I don't want to drive 50 miles to find out .
  16. The person that mentioned that is the farmer who leases my SIL's property and the adjacent property that was just purchased . Not sue if he is blowing smoke but he has her nervous . It could be BS but I will do what I have to to be able to continue hunting her property .
  17. Sat in a ground blind in Honeoye Falls this am . Spooked a doe on the way in . Was in the blind by 6:15 . Around 7:15 a Spike came within 10 yards of the blind . He had at least 6-7 inch spikes . I couldn't shoot as I had already gotten a buck during bow season . Later I saw a doe with a fawn . Quit at 10 am . The weather was nice . Might go to Geneseo Saturday and do a morning hunt . My SIL wants posted signs put up on the West side of her as someone bought that property and has a tendency to infringe on properties .
  18. Sorry for your loss . How old was she ?
  19. My wife's cousin's dog chases cats in the yard . If her cousin shouts CAT , the dog goes nuts and wants out the door .
