  1. Well slick , I didn't ban or give Chef a time-out . I don't even know what the post was that caused the stir . I don't go into the Chuckles forum as I prefer not to see that garbage . I had gotten PM complaints from a few members about posts on that forum and told those members to contact someone else as I had no intention of looking at the Chuckles forum .
  2. Happy Birthday to my fellow Marines ...... 246 years
  3. I haven't gone to Todays Chuckle since I came back . With some of the raunchy posts , I think it should be gone but it isn't up to me . This was originally set up to be a family site .
  4. I have those and don't think they work worth a darn . I have a circulation problem and my feet are always cold . I bought a pair of heated socks and they work Fair . I could only find SVPRO when looking for a name brand for the socks . They are rechargeable .
  5. The wife and I went to get our Covid Booster Shots this afternoon . Had to fill out a bit of paperwork . I was surprised that there was only male & female boxes to check . What happened to the other 55 gender choices ?
  6. I have a 35mm trail cam in the basement somewhere . It was frustrating turning in a 36 exposure roll of film , waiting for a few days for film to be developed and maybe getting 2 pictures of a deer .
  7. Welcome to HuntingNY .........
  8. Got to the Geneseo hunting property around 6:15 today . Unloaded the ATV and dropped my youngest son off at his stand and then headed for mine . Got my gear on and was in the stand by 6:45 . Sat back and chilled . It was ccccccold . Nothing like holding a cold piece of metal ( X-Bow ) in 28 degree weather . Around 8:30 I could barely see a doe through the thick area about 10 yards away . She had come in from behind and apparently winded me and took off . She blew while running through the thickets . At 9:50 I had a doe come in from the bean field . She knew I was there and played the bob the head game for a couple minutes and left . I didn't shoot as she was facing me and didn't turn until she went back to the field . Later a fox came through and exited to the field . I saw another 3 deer run across the field . People refer to the area as "The Bottoms" . The water doesn't drain off the land and it is real squishy / slippery walking . My youngest son said he saw a total of 8 doe and 2 nice bucks . Too far to shoot with his compound . We quit at 11:30 and headed home .
  9. I believe the deer have evolved quite a bit . Back in the 60's I never did anything for scent control . Had doe come within 15 - 20 yards from me standing on the ground ( and no party doe permit ) . Then in the late 70's I started using wooden tree stands and the deer never looked up . Now they look up , sniff the air and we get busted if the wind is wrong .
  10. Almost ready . I put my compound away and got out my CenterPoint 370 . Had to cut a piece of wood to take with me so I can cock the X-bow . The stirrup is too small for the toe of my boot to fit in it . I slide the board into the stirrup a couple inches , stand on the board and cock the X-bow . Works for me .
  11. It's funny how we have gotten so meticulous about scent control . I recall when I 1st started gun hunting in 1965 , that I wore blue jeans , a red coat and hat . Didn't do anything special with the clothes . Didn't use tree stands or blinds . A couple time I had to put my cigarette down to shoot a deer . How times have changed !
  12. At my age , I still have the desire but don't go out unless I have one of my sons or someone to go with me . I have only been out 3 times so far this season and scored once . I haven't had to field dress a deer in 3 years .
  13. A Reminder --- WNY Buckhunter posted this at the beginning of the Thread ...... Only pictures with the associated story will be allowed in this thread. If you want to congratulate someone, please do it by clicking on the "like this" button for the post. There will be no exceptions.Feel free to start a new thread if you wish to have comments in addition to posting the photo / story here.
  14. I prefer bow over gun hunting . I had to drop my bow poundage down to 55 pounds this year . It's rough getting old but it beats the alternative !
  15. My father in law got me started in 1965 . We hunted together for 3 years and he quit . I hunted alone for a few years and stopped . Mt SIL bought property in Geneseo and asked me if I wanted to hunt with her . Then my son in law started gun hunting with me and we hunted together until he quit , I hunted alone for several years and then two of my sons stared deer hunting with me . So 56 years with 2 years off for me .
  16. Didn't want to derail the thread but , since you are so knowledgeable and I am not , I thought I would respond . One of our members ,who is a Fire Fighter brought up the topic a couple years ago . He specifically talked about back feeding a generator into a home panel box . It can be done safely IF THE PERSON KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING . Too many don't know . Since the Fire Fighter hasn't responded I found this link . http://www.experts123.com/a/the-dangers-of-back-feeding.html
  17. One of our members was with a Fire Department . Not sure who it is / was . Anyway he had discussed people having house fires from feeding electricity back into the house from a portable generator . Be careful doing that .
