  1. What a long day . Two of my sons and a grandson met at the property in Geneseo . I was in my stand by 6:15 . Around 7:25 i heard 3 shots . I waited a few minutes and the called my youngest son who was 1/4 mile away . He said he dropped a doe and took 2 shots at a buck . Later he reported that he had gotten both . Nick was using his Savage 220 slug gun . Suggested he get them loaded at his car and head home . Since my other son , grandson and I hadn't seen anything , we decided to leave . I was disappointed that I didn't get a shot with my 44 mag pistol . Went to my oldest sons house for dinner . Had a great meal . I ate more marinated backstraps than turkey . All in all , it was a good day . Nick's deer
  2. Dark meat but I don't care much for Turkey . I wish the Pilgrims had sacrificed a pig so we would have ham on Thanksgiving .
  3. My 2 sons , grandson and I are going to do a morning hunt tomorrow . Depending on the wind I am considering using my Ruger Super Red Hawk 44mag with open sights from one of my bow stands . I had a Leopold 2X scope on the pistol but couldn't get on a deer at close range so I took it off . Maybe I will change my mind about the pistol . Not sure .
  4. The field to the left in the picture belongs to a neighbor and I don't have permission to shoot out there . Between 3:45 and 4:45 I saw 6 deer in the field . 5 were definitely antler less . Not sure about the 6th one . Around 4:30 my youngest son shot at a doe . Thought he hit her but wasn't going to get down until 5pm . At about 5pm , I packed up my gear and waited by my ATV . Nick didn't spot any blood so I drove the quarter mile to where he was and helped look . Nothing . No blood , no deer . I think he is going back in the am to look some more .
  5. I have a pair of insoles that allow me to slide a hand warmer towards the toe part . My feet were still cold. If I rested my heels on the ground rather than my whole foot while sitting in the chair blind , that seemed to help .
  6. No. In my brilliance I couldn't help get on the hunting forum. Chalk it up to old age . Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  7. All set. Bring on the deer Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  8. I bought a pair of Baffin Insulated Hunting Boots and wore them for the 1st time last Saturday . I wasn't impressed with them for keeping my feet warm . I had to order 1 1/2 size larger than my other footwear due to the bulky insulation . I tried putting my heated insoles in but that didn't work . I wore my heated socks but couldn't reach inside the boots to turn them on . I did use a pair of the toe warmers in the boots . I had thought that since the boots were engineered in Canada that they would be much better .
  9. Looks like you doe got caught in a leg trap !
  10. Drinking in the stand gives hunters a bad name . Posting pictures of that sure doesn't help our public image '
  11. I have taken a couple deer with my 7-30 waters Thompson Contender . I wouldn't even consider using my 223 barrel but that's just me .
  12. I was in my Pond Blind Stand by 6:10 this am . About 8:30 5 doe ran down through the big field . Too much brush in the way for a shot . My 2 sons were in the woods . My oldest son shot a doe around 9:30 . In the afternoon , my son spotted a trespasser and let me know he was wandering in the woods . About an hour later I spotted the guy and called to him . He came up to my stand and I realized it was the next door neighbor . We exchanged pleasantries and he left . I told him that when he came through the thickets that he kicked out a doe it it was hauling butt . I got down at 5pm and headed back to my car . Waited for my sons to get up to where we parked and we chatted for a bit and I left . Did I mention that it was ccccold !
  13. I just hope that there will be some hunters out there moving the deer . Good luck !
  14. I hope to be sitting in my stand by 6am ...........
  15. A friend shared this and I found it interesting. Pretty Amazing! A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion: There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin .. Allow me to restate that number: 600,000! Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world. (That’s more men under arms than in Iran . More than France and Germany combined. ) These men, deployed to the woods of a single American state, Wisconsin, to hunt with firearms, and NO ONE WAS KILLED. That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods ofPennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters, ALL OF WHOM HAVE RETURNED HOME SAFELY. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. And then add in the total number of hunters in the other 46 states. It's millions more. ________ The point? _______________________________________ America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower! Hunting... it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security. *************************************** That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed. Food for thought, when next we consider gun control, whether you agree with it or not. Overall it's true, so if we disregard some assumptions that hunters don't possess the same skills as soldiers, the question would still remain... What army of 2 million would want to face 30 million, 40 million, or 50 million armed citizens??? For the sake of our freedom, don't ever allow gun control or confiscation of guns. (IF YOU AGREE, AS I DO, PASS IT ON, I FEEL GOOD THAT I HAVE AN ARMY OF MILLIONS WHO WOULD PROTECT OUR LAND AND I SURE DON'T WANT THE GOVERNMENT TAKING CONTROL OF THE POSSESSION OF FIREARMS) GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
  16. It would be quite easy to forget this and then be in trouble and lose your pistols . I just looked at my paper work and see where I submitted it in 2018 . I have two more years before re-certifying .
  17. I will be using my NEF 25-06 single shot most of the time . If I do any hunting in Monroe County I will use my Savage 20 gauge . Good Luck to all .
  18. Oh , okay , thanks . I hadn't seen water rat on any of the hunting sites . So the only place I had seen him was on the Todays Chuckle Forum . I should have known that from his name . Thanks ...
  19. I'm not sure that water rat hunts . I have only seen his posts in Todays Chuckle ... Maybe I missed something .
