Every once in a while some dumb ass feels it necessary to ride their snow mobile across Irondequoit Bay and crash through the ice . They don't wait for the ice to get thick . You can't fix stupid .

Has anyone restrung a crossbow themselves ?

Sorry for your loss of a friend . I sometimes think I am pushing my luck by hunting at the age of 79 . I am blessed that 2 of my sons hunt and will field dress , drag and butcher the deer that I shoot . I sometimes wonder how much longer I can keep doing this . But , thinking about deer hunting keeps me going !

My father in law got me started with deer hunting . My wife has never given me any crap about the time I spend doing just that . We have been married for 58 years .

Did my last sit this afternoon in Honeoye Falls . Didn't see anything . Gotta get busy putting my hunting stuff away . All in all , it was an okay season . Almost forgot . It was quite windy and at one point the wind blew hard enough that it popped one of the hubs and almost knocked my ML out of my hands . It really startled me !

I wonder how many of these playoff teams are going to rest some of their players . Quite often they do this so the best players don't get injured . We will see in the next two games .

Glad to see the Bengals trounce the Steelers ! It was a big surprise .

Sat out for 2 hours in Honeoye Falls . Didn't see anything . Farmer was combining corn across the road . Heard one lone shot around 4:20 . Farmer said he hasn't been seeing many deer this season . Will go back tomorrow for one more afternoon sit .

I sure do miss Beikirchs in East Rochester !

Went back to my son's property in Honeoye Falls and sat in the blind for 2 hours .Didn't see anything . Temperature wasn't too bad for the sit . Sunset was at 4:38 . Was talking to Matt by my car when we heard a shot at 5:05 .

I loaded my NEF Huntsman at the beginning of season last year . Never got a shot . I fired it this past Tuesday to check it out . Right on . No problem .

Next game - Bills at Patriots on Monday Night Football and the following week the Doe-Felons come to town .

When I went to reload my ML after shooting a doe yesterday , the sabot didn't want to come out of the speed loader . Too tight . I headed for Webster to buy a pack of the speed loaders but stopped at Eastside Traders on the way to see if they had any . They are a Pawn Shop , Gun shop and have a indoor pistol range . When I got there , I saw a sign on the door that said " Remove Mask Before Entering" . I thought it was a joke but everyone inside was not wearing a mask . I asked what was the no mask sign for and was told that they can't sell a gun or ammo unless they could see you face . I thought it was stupid as if I was to purchase either , I could pull my mask down . It was a wasted stop anyway !

Went to my son's property in Honeoye Falls this afternoon . Sat out in a hub blind . The blind is pretty well secluded but doesn't have much of a shooting window . Around 4pm a small doe came into view . I was holding out for a bigger deer but wasn't going to wait until dark for one to come in . Most of the time the deer was facing me at about 55 - 60 yards . Around 4:20 she moved sideway and into an opening . I pulled the hammer back on my NEF Huntsman and fired . All I could see was a big cloud of smoke . I reloaded and went to check for blood . Found blood and followed the trail . She went about 40 yards and crashed . Matt came out with the ATV , field dressed the deer , loaded it in the sled and took it to the barn to butcher otherwise it would freeze overnight .The deer was a doe fawn . At least I know the ML is accurate out to 60 yards .
