4 of the 6 on my wall were shot between 10;30 and 1;00. Vaca has officially started and it will be all day everyday. That is until my wife puts an end to the 4;00 am wake up calls.. LOL Needless to say, i'm hoping to get it done the first day and save myself some dirty looks.

My mistake on the rifle. For some reason i thought Camden was downstate. And i can never keep those Northern zone seasons straight..LOL

Hunter, looks like a nice little spot in between those two field. Some people would look at that and say, what do you need a food plot for, the deer got all the food they need. But the fact is those beans are either picked allready or they will be as soon as the ground dries up enough to get them, and the corn will probably be gone before gun season or there abouts. Then the deer will be looking for easy food sources and if you don't have any, they will not stick around. You have a nice little opening that would work nicely. I'm guessing that to be between a 1/4 acre and 1/2 acre by the overhead pic. Thats a managable size for someone who doesn't want to be a farmer when he's not hunting. My first inclination is you should see if the farmer wouldn't plow that up for you in the spring if you through him a few bucks. Probably would only take him about 15 minutes to do. Then you maybe could do the soil prep yourself after that. First thing i would do is get a soil sample this fall before the ground freezes and get the results back so you can see what your dealing with as far as lime and fertilizer. That might determine which plantings will do the best.

Chicory/clover is no doubt a killer combo. I also am a big fan of it myself but not so much from the local grainery. Not saying it doesn't work, my point is that how much money really does it cost in seed to do a small plot on 7 total acres of land?? I just don't see the need to save $10 in the most important part of the whole project. Just my 2 penny thoughts. Hunter, if you could describe the layout of the area your thinking about planting, it would help a bit in coming up with the best seed choices. Chicory and clover may not work if he doesn't have the equipment to get the ground prepped.

Well you have a few more weeks before you can scratch that rifle itch. In the meantime, this weekend and through this next week should be prime time and alot of frustrated bow hunters are going to have their season turned around in the blink of an eye. Hopefully me and you both will be just the lucky guys.. So get out there and hunt all day. Not til 10 and then back in at 3. All day. If you have nothing else to do that is.. Find the does or find the food the does are using, and get the wind in your favor and stay put. The bucks will come looking for the ladies. Can't help you with the Camden area, but don't give up now.. Thats like heading home from spring break just before the wet tee shirt contest kicks off..

Hunter. I would say that if you want to give those resident deer another reason to frequent your property, then a small food plot may give you good results. As far as what to plant, well that depends on a few factors like soil conditions and how much sunlight can get to the plants ect. I would be cautious about going into it with the idea of cheap and easy though and look at it more as an investment in your enjoyment level of hunting. Plan it out, get some advice, and try to put a good effort into producing a good plot. It will be more rewarding that way. Also i would be pampering those crab apple trees during the offseason so that they remain healthy and productive.

Well here in 8H it's just about go time. Been seeing some nice bucks that have been shot or are on trail cams for the first time this season. Also been seeing some pretty good bucks cruisin' mid-day. On stand though has been alittle different. You can almost feel it ready to pop and i think the cool temps and sun will help. Time to strap in. Vaca starts Sunday for me.. Then i thought about the fact that there are alot of big woods guys that have their work cut out for them because things are so different up there. Congrats peas, and good luck finding mr. big stuff. I would say your right about things getting rollin' real soon. Have been seeing some cruisin' during the mid-afternoon. Lets hope the weather stays calm so we can get after them..

Wheelie, your buddy is not far from my hunting grounds and i will say that i'm seeing just about the same things. Decent bucks cruisin' hedgerows during the mid-day. Does seem to still be bunched up, but a cruisin buck is sometimes easier to kill or find then a mature buck all wacked out on estrous crack.. Can't hunt again til Sunday. Start vaca then. But if i could hunt right now, i might set up in hedgerow or edge of woods. Some would say near corn if they could but beans (even if they are picked but not plowed under) and winter wheat are good right now bucause the bucks are using their eyes as well as their noses to look for a sweetheart.

Geez sam, When i saw that you posted that you got a big one, i was psyched to see your arrow through some beast. LOL . Glad that Chevy is alright..

Doc, your so right about the unpredictable weather. I slept in on Tues and then did yard clean-up. After three calm and dry hours, i thought, i need to go hunt. I grabbed my gear and headed to the land. Got geared up and 30 seconds in to my walk to stand, the skies opened up and drenched me pretty good. Luckily i had my rain gear on so it wasn't to bad. Just seems like i can't make the right decision so far when it comes to the weather. And the wind has been really flukey as well. I Think i can count on one hand the number of west or south-west winds we have had this year. On normal years , thats the wind direction 75% of the time. And next week looks to be un-predictable as well..

What the heck is a 3 yr old spike and how do you know when a spike is 3 yrs old..?? lol Anyway. in this neck of the woods, i've seen some decent bucks on their feet but the doe groups are still hangin together. Also the deer Gods know i start vaca on Sunday so they are keeping the big boys mellow til then. Everything seems to be right on schedule as far as i can tell.

Nice looking work Matt. Looks like i may have to give you a call if i slam a bruiser this year.. Phade, your comments were correct about Dave Parnell. And Moog also.. I talked to him yesterday and he said he is not taking on any mounts this year..
