  1. I'm with treeguy, i thought this weekend went very well and i was a bit skeptical when it was propossed. Deer were moving in our parts so hopefully the kids had a blast and are hooked for life..
  2. It's not up side down!!
  3. Nice looking bucks Biz. Looks like a heck of a fun time.. Congrats
  4. Elmo. I would certainly not write off climbers because of this episode. They can be a very valuable hunting tool that you will come to appreciate some day if you keep it in your bag of tricks. Climbers simply require a different level of concentration and skill. The same way using a hang on with screw-ins requires different skills and concentration then a ladder stand. And please don't write off climbing sticks either. They work great. Remember All, We are hunting. There's some risk.
  5. Shoot what puts a smile on your face larry. I'll be the first to give you congrats on whatever hits the dirt.. Saw that 9 again tonight but he was out of range. I made a big mistake not taking him Tues.
  6. Well that pretty much wraps up our annual, and sometimes bi-annual food plot/baiting debate... Good stuff..
  7. Your priceless Doc. Here's another one. "narrow minded" Pretty sure you were the first person to throw out the jealousy card when you mentioned the tractors that some of the food plotters have.. Right.. And before that you mentioned that your really ok with plots as long as it 's not used to pull the deer off neighbors property. Sounds like the "hunting Fairness Doctrine". Joe, sorry if my blanket statement seemed to lump you in to the group of hunters that i was referring to.. I know how you feel about plots and i can appreciate your view. You always try to base your opinions on whats best for the health and well being of the deer first and then concider the hunters. Thats a position that most on here can respect and let you work out on your own..
  8. It is all jealousy, pure and simple. So be real men and admit that. What it really is is hunting Socialism. Its not fair that my neighbor has money and land and a brand new 4 wheel drive tractor. You know how much those cost..... blah blah blah. This is still the land of the free is it not. Why are so many people worried about what we do with our money and land?? Jealousy
  9. First of all my shittt don't stink and neither does my piss. Second of all, you bottle carriers are crazy. Deer don't give a dang about pee. Had a chance to hunt with Chuck Adams on a bear hunt and he said he's never carried a pee bottle ever. Good enough for me.. maybe we should post up some pictures
  10. Good stuff Larry. Thanks for sharing. Your turf is too good to stay slow for long and i know you'll find a way to put the deer on the ground. If you happen to see a 3.5 yr old 9 pointer with palmated beams, i let him walk on tues night. Had him at 10 yrds but i thought he would really look great on the wall next year. It was a hard decision. Good luck and keep the stories coming..
  11. Elmo, Sure glad you only got a nasty bruise. Could have been a disaster for you and your family. I must say though that i agree with WNY and Phade in that it sounds like the platform lost its grip on the tree when you had you weight and feet to close to the trunk of the tree. This is a no-no with most climbers. You have to keep your weight from the middle of the platform - out or the grip may be lost.
  12. Ive told this story before but i'll bore some of you with it again. Few years back, a friend of mine headed to his stand during gun season and found himself quickly surrounded by a pack of wild dogs. When they aggressively came at him, he unloaded his 12 guage at anything close. He said there were 9 or 10 dogs and he killed 5 of them. Blood and body parts everywhere. If that had happened during bow season, my 72 year old friend would have been in a world of hurt or worse, dead.. Even if he was carrying his bolt action rifle, he would have been in a bad spot. I don't carry everyday because i'm scared i might get mugged, and i don't carry in the woods because i'm afraid of wild animals, i carry because i want to always be ready to defend myself at any time. By the way i carry to church, but not in the bow stand. The law is stupid but i'm not going to loose my rights by breaking it. Just not worth the risk.
  13. Yes it is, and thats why he said don't tell. Two guns are always better then one so yes i carry..
  14. Great Buck Ross.. Westsiders puttin up the big bucks early.. Nice job.
  15. dude, you just advised him on some great spots to hunt on the neighbors property. Pretty sure that will get him a ticket and a fine, not a deer.
  16. Cant really give you much good advice about where to hang a stand based on the overhead but being only 48 acres, you should be able to walk the piece and find some sign that will narrow things down a bit. My first reaction is that i would want a set-up just inside that timber that parrallels that open area. One thing i would not do is attempt a food plot. This close to the season, is not the time to be clanging around in the woods. I would hang a couple sets that look and feel right and be prepared to move at any time throughout the season. My climber would be ready for action at any given moment.
  17. Problem.... Half my day is filled with thoughts of farm bucks and tattoed porn stars.
  18. Justin, i wouldn't show anyone else that deer.. He's a beast. Good luck with him. Also a very nice 8 pointer on your camera Wheeleiman..
  19. Wow, paula. What a sweet looking buck. Looks like your camera move payed off..
  20. Boy he's got a big ole' orr in the water... Great looking deer. Nothing like a drop tine to keep you motivated during the season.
  21. looks real good Pav. those brassicas shouldn't get hit too hard right now, so i think you'll have a nice full crop in time for the frosty weather. No-plow should do good now also, especially since we seem to be out of that super dry weather. If you can get good soil contact, the stuff is almost fool proof. Nice looking bucket-mouth.
  22. Great looking deer Bud.. Ny bucks i take it..??
