It makes zero difference who the HSUS CEO is, the anti hunting mission and message remains exactly the same as can be seen by the failed legislation attempt. Al

Scope mount on REM 1100 20 ??
airedale replied to luberhill's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Weaver made a side mounted base that was held by screws on the curve of the receiver and a ring set up that would attach to that base. It is a very strong setup and it puts the scope right over the top of the receiver. Best done by a competent gunsmith. Below is my Winchester super X1 with that mount. -
When it comes to eating different game animals and birds a lot has to do with how it is prepared. I have had the chance to try just about everything at one time or another. From Possums to Moose and everything in between, some was a lot better than others but all were at least palatable except for one and that was Pronghorn Antelope, I did not like it at all, the smell or the taste. It was just fried in butter with some salt and pepper, yuk!! Al

Thompson Center 54 inline ?? Is this an oddball
airedale replied to luberhill's topic in Muzzleloaders
I have a couple of 45 cal sidelocks that have presented problems obtaining projectiles in recent years, almost everything is geared toward 50 cal these days. The problem was easily solved by purchasing a bullet mold and casting bullets myself and not for a lot of money. Not hard to master at all, just do it in a well ventilated area. Lead is pretty easy to find and purchase. Al -
You do know this is HuntingNY.com a hunting themed message board, this troll have been on this board for months and all he posts is political libtard venom to stir the pot, he does not belong here! What I posted was universal message board etiquette, having two accounts like the Versatile one is a banning offense on any message board I have ever been a member of, he is being dishonest and a liar! Notice his typical deflection of the charge. Al

Oh my, should I get down on my knees and kiss your ring superior one? What we have here with the Versatile "non hunter" is a perfect example of a sockpuppet account, having operated a message board for close to twenty years I can spot them a mile away. A sock puppet or sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception. The term, a reference to the manipulation of a simple hand puppet made from a sock, originally referred to a false identity assumed by a member of an Internet community who spoke to, or about, themselves while pretending to be another person. The use of the term has expanded to now include other misleading uses of online identities, such as those created to praise, defend, or support a person or organization, to manipulate public opinion, or to circumvent restrictions, such as viewing a social media account that they are blocked from, suspension or an outright ban from a website. A significant difference between the use of a pseudonym and the creation of a sockpuppet is that the sockpuppet poses as an independent third-party unaffiliated with the main account operator. Sockpuppets are unwelcome in many online communities and forums and should be banned!

Several fellows on the Airedale board use their dogs here in the states to recover Deer, had this photo sent in from a hunter in France using his dog to recover Deer in the same way done in the states, Fallow Deer instead of Whitetails. Al

“We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States ... We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state.” - Wayne Pacelle, CEO & President of HSUS
-
I have posted many times on this board about all of the animal rights groups being in bed with the Democrat party and the above legislation pushed by HSUS s just another example. Why should Second Amendment or hunting supporters care about HSUS? There’s a lot reasons. The money that HSUS is raising under deceptive pretenses helps fund a radical anti-gun and anti-hunting agenda. HSUS’s lobbying arm fought a successful push to allow concealed carry in National Parks, on the grounds that it could increase poaching. That’s about as logical as saying we should ban concealed carry entirely because permit holders might be potential robbers or murderers, despite the fact that they are overwhelmingly law-abiding citizens. HSUS is trying to ban lead ammunition in hunting, which sets a bad precedent for all shooters. HSUS’s allies in the radical environmental movement are hoping to go further and ban lead ammo from target ranges. HSUS is a rabidly anti-hunting organization. HSUS CEO Wayne “I don’t love animals” Pacelle has said, “If we could shut all sport hunting down in a moment, we would.” Pacelle has also come out against hunting for food. When asked if he would prohibit it, he replied, “I think that I would campaign against it. Yes, I think that I would.” Pacelle has claimed that the “NRA is led by extremists,” as if protecting hunting and Second Amendment rights is a radical concept. “The NRA’s invoking of the noble principles of freedom and constitutional rights to defend hunting, as with its inflexible stance on gun control, is only a smoke screen for extremism,” Pacelle stated. HSUS’s main mission very much includes attacking hunters and farmers and trying to stop people from eating meat, cheese, ice cream, and other animal products—the PETA agenda, in short. HSUS is also no friend to gun rights, and will throw them under the bus whenever it’s convenient.

It will work perfectly fine in current so called modern barrels, I paid pretty high prices for mine and only use it in my older doubles for waterfowl. I have since acquired both bismuth and IXT non lead shot and load it myself at much lower cost but still not cheap. Congrats on getting a deal, not easy to come by these days. Al

I have several boxes of Classic Doubles lead free shot shells I use on occasion when hunting waterfowl with a couple of older fixed choke Doubles made before steel shot use came into being. It is perfectly safe to used in any non damascus barreled old Double that is in good condition. The will be safe to fire in the old Parker. From the manufacturer Classic Double line of shells are designed for older fixed choke and fine classic doubles shotguns. The shotshells are loaded to 1100 fps and relatively low pressures to reduce recoil and function safely in old chambers. To compensate for the slower speed Classic Doubles pellets are dense about halfway between lead and steel and hardhitting.

The California model is what Democrats are going to try and use when it comes to hunting and regulating firearms and ammo. Al

QAnon and hunting don’t mix
airedale replied to Versatile_Hunter's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
A better more truthful headline would be Democrats and hunting don't mix and the icing on the cake is you yourself a libtard troll on a hunting board certainly don't mix and should be canned. Al -
It was a good little film, his and my views on hunting and preparing yourself are much the same. These days there does not seem to be much of what I consider to be actual hunting. When I watch one of the current so called hunting shows with a person sitting as snug as a bug in a heated elevated stand with their rifle resting on a lead sled and shooting a big buck feeding on a pile of corn I can only shake my head. For open sights and my old eyes a ghost ring peep works best for me along with a fine bead fiber optic front, the old eyes don't work as well as they once did but with that combo I can shoot well enough for deer hunting out to 100 yds or so. My main problem is in low light conditions. These days most of my open sight firearms for Deer hunting are my old style sidelock muzzleloaders. Also the 20 mm objectives on low powered scopes have nothing to do with field of view, they in fact most times have a much larger field of view than high powered scopes with large objectives. They do not let in as much light so they are not as bright in dim conditions but they still let in plenty for legal shooting hours so seeing your target and crosshairs is no problem. I am with Buckmaster when it comes to scopes for Deer still hunting and in the woods, I will take compact light weight and field of view for quick handling and ease of carrying. And a low powered scope does not limit your range for most Deer hunting here in NY. Almost all of my woods Deer hunting firearms have low powered scopes with 20 mm objectives and I have never not been able to take the shot because of it. Al

Below is a typical peep-receiver sight, some mount on the side like this one and some will mount on the top of the receiver or barrel replacing the original factory rear sight. A couple of illustrations showing basically how they are used, unscrewing the smaller hole aperture makes for a larger sighting hole which some refer to as a ghost ring resulting in a much larger field of view maker for quicker sight acquisition which is favored for hunting and still with precise accuracy.

Most on my small game hunting including Rabbits and Hare when using a shotgun has been with 20 ga and #6 shot which for me has been best for all around. I have to disagree with the fellow's opinion about using Rimfires for hunting when using dogs. When hunting Hare many times I carried just my Colt Woodsman 22 and I killed a lot of Hare with that gun limiting out on numerus occasions. Safety is all about the individual practicing safe gun handling and taking safe shots, I have never even been close to having an incident endangering my Dogs from errant shooting. Al

Ammo prices WOW !!! Why so much for .22 lr
airedale replied to luberhill's topic in General Chit Chat
Go to Ebay and type in a search for reloading equipment used and new, there is plenty of stuff available. The selection and prices will not be as good as they were a few months ago because there are a lot of shooters jumping on the hand loading bandwagon. Al -

airedale replied to luberhill's topic in General Chit Chat
It is tough to get behind the eight ball when it comes to ammo supply if you are a hand loader. It is not to late to get into hand loading your own ammo. I am an avid shooter and other than rimfire ammo I can count on my fingers the number of boxes of factory centerfire ammo I have purchased in the last 50 years. 99.9% of the ammo I shoot and hunt with has been put up by me and to be honest I believe it to be the equal and in many cases better than the factory stuff. You will never be short if you are a smart shopper and scrounger, you will have good savings to boot. It can come down to even forming your own cases and casting bullets if need be. It can all be done if one gets serious and learns to do it. I have posted here before it does not cost a lot of money to get started, do not be afraid to buy good used equipment and equipment from multiple manufacturers as most reloading equipment is interchangeable and made to work together. Bill Gates Becomes Biggest Private Owner of Farmland in America
airedale replied to Grouse's topic in General Chit Chat
Old Bill is taking heed of Thomas Mitchell's quote in the movie Gone With The Wind. Why, land is the only thing in the world worth workin’ for, worth fightin’ for, worth dyin’ for, because it’s the only thing that lasts.” Al -
If Firearms Disappeared, What Would People Carry?
airedale replied to phantom's topic in General Chit Chat
The reality is the powers that be never seem to want folks to be able to defend themselves. Just about every device that can be used for personal defense has some sort of law prohibiting possession. Knives, pepper spray, brass knuckles, a sap or Billy clubs are some examples. Like firearms the criminal elements to not pay much attention to laws having such things that they would gladly use against their victims to carry out their crimes. So unless you are a black belt like our friend Bill or someone like Shaquille O Neal you are to take your mugging, robbery or home invasion like a man or rape in a woman's case and like it. Al -
Like Grouse I would be out of NY in a hurry, a place in the Black Hills of South Dakota from April through late Fall and a place somewhere in Texas for the winter, both places would have to be ideal hunting properties with plenty of room for visiting friends and family. Also a nice motorhome to travel between the two places hunting throughout the western states for varmints and birds during those travels. I have made many friends out west through the years being associated with Airedales and other hunting dogs with invites to visit and hunt from many, that big chunk of cash would allow the means to easily do so. As I do today I will donate to places that I feel are important to me like St Jude's children's hospital and the NRA just in much bigger amounts. Al
