Got 2 coats of base paint on today and the door is built. Tomorrow I'll try my hand at tree bark and leaves for a little camouflage.

I still need to make a door(forgot to buy some hinges) I think the windows should work for both archery and gun? I made panels and screwed them together so I can take it apart and stack it on a trailer to haul up in the woods. We will make the windows from plexiglas, awning style. And it will need some paint

This still for sale? Too bad your not closer, I would probably grab it. I'll be in the Finger Lakes later in July, maybe we can meet in between? -
You got his Jay! Stick it out, take a nap and see if he comes back to find you later this morning. We are all rooting for you! There is only 3 hours left! Looking forward to reading the final chapter in the story!!!

Well turkey season kinda got in the way, but I did start to build 1 of the box blinds yesterday afternoon. I'm experimenting with the window sizes and height so I'll sheath it after I decide what will work best.

I thought they called that a "Robin Hood"?
-
I did, I walked and crow called the entire property. Went across the road and tried a couple of spots on the neighbors property, then I went to the state land above Harwood Lake. Never heard a single gobble!
-
Back out in Farmersville, real quiet, haven't heard any gobbles. Not sure what to do other than wait a little and hope someone wakes up!

Happy Birthday Grampy!! Enjoy your day!!

I got up at 3, checked the radar and blew it off. Tomorrow is another day. I'm not driving over an hour each way to get wet! FN weather channel had me hoping to get in a hunt until around 9 this morning only to get up and wtf! Lairs all of them! Sorry, rant over. maybe.....

Speeking of canning....Years ago on 1 of my hockey teams 1 of the guys was Greek and I would hear him on the way into the shower asking the guy in front of him " have you ever had Greek sausage in a can?" Still makes me laugh!

I was hunting with a friend a few years ago at his camp and for dinner he opened up some canned venison, put it a cast iron skillet and just heated it up. We put it on rolls with horseradish, it was delicious! Then he did another batch and said try this, It was canned goose, I couldn't tell the difference!

What made me think about it was Monday when i was in Farmersville and was working 2 birds, I heard what I think was the 2 guys that snuck in from the field above me try to gobble call. It was the worst sounding gobble I have ever heard, and within minutes both birds shut up and disappeared. It really sucked because 1 of the birds was coming in and was real close, just below me on a lower bench. The other bird was in front of me about 80 yrds. I was waiting for any second when the close bird poked his head up to look over the ridge for me. And just like that it was over. 5 minutes later i saw the other hunters head back out to the field they came in from. PS. Jay why don't you use it when your daughter is with you? Safety reasons i assume?

Glad to see your back, almost 20 months! what did you do, go on a 3 hour cruise?
-
Does anyone ever use a gobble shaker and if you do when is the appropriate time to use it? I would only use 1 on private land where I know there shouldn't be another hunter within range. I have seen gobblers come running in to get between their hens and another approaching gobbler, much to their demise, but I was wondering how would you guys use the call?
-
That's kinda what I did yesterday. It looks like it doesn't matter, my buddy that was going with me today just cancelled. I'm going back to bed! I'll be back out on Saturday.

So here's the dilemma, and don't tell me to go fishing, I plan on hunting Little Valley tomorrow for last time. I didn't hear any today but I know they are there (somewhere) Rain is forcast by 9am. What can I do to try and find the birds? I went to 3 spots today where I know they have roosted in the past, tried crow call and finally cranked on my boat paddle, nothing. I need to try something different?
-
Back in Little Valley, no gobbles, absolute gorgeous day. I got here late as I left my phone at home and had to go back to get it. I don't wear a watch so I have to have the phone to tell time. I may have missed the early tree gobbles?
-
I haven't fished in years! Although a couple of friends have boats and have mentioned taking me out with them sometime. Maybe it will happen?
-
I didn't hunt today, it seems lately when I get up at 2:30 AM to Turkey hunt and then hunt till noon, I can't get up the next day. I'm feeling old way too fast! That said, I do plan to hunt Wednesday and Thursday but wonder if this sudden hot spell is going to affect them. I know it definitely has affected me! So many have said that they just aren't hearing any gobblers? I was wondering do I change up my strategy? I honestly don't know if I can handle the early rise followed by the disappointment of no gobbles.

Out in Farmersville, got in and set up by 4:40, birds weren't there. Heard 1 gobble way to the south so we moved. Got close and had 2 going, definitely coming in. 2 hunters snuck in above us from the field and just like that no gobbles! SOB I worked those birds for an hour. Plan B is to go back to same spot at 10 and try soft calls with dekes.

My turn to screw it up, today i went back to Farmersville and took the land owner with me. we got to where I thought the birds would be but because of the rain and fog it was quiet. so we sat and waited to see if we would see or hear any fly down and how long before it cleared up. Well at 6 am the rain stopped and almost immediately to fog moved off the hill and boom 2 separate gobbles! They were to my left and over the ridge so I made the fatal mistake to move to try and get closer, and sure enough there was another bird closer than I expected and it started putting loud at us. No more gobbles, and about a half hour later I saw 2 birds pitch out and away from us. Waited about an hour and started moving in their direction but the rain started back up and we decided tomorrow would be a better day to go after them.
