  1. I just spent the last 3 hours catching up on this site. I've been out of internet reach for 4 days hunting a friends place in Birdsall. Too windy to try roosting on wednesday, pouring all day on thursday, hunted state land on friday, got 1 to gobble at 11:30 too far to be able to work it. Got beat to my parking spot on Saturday, had to go to plan B, never heard a bird. Sunday I went back to area I heard the gobbler on friday, never heard a bird. Didn't see much in the way of scratching in the woods and I hiked a ton this weekend. I seriously think the bird population is way down in that area? Slept in this am, I really needed it, between the hiking and the work at camp I'm exhausted! We did get a good start on the water system for the cabin, I'll post a couple of pics on that thread.
  2. Moho, is this your bike? yes, you need to clean it up and get it running again. then at least cover it when you store it! Lol
  3. The beauty of painting your Turkey gun is if you don't like it, just repaint it.
  4. I still have lots of connections! lol
  5. Or a good place to hide because you never finished the desk?
  6. I'm glad to see you installed central air!
  7. I'm sure Moho insisted you put in an egress window!!!
  8. Is that one where you accidentally shot your hunting partner? lol
  9. Brian, I had the same problem with my Remington 870 when I first sighted it in for turkey. It shot low and to the right at 20 yds! I put on a Hi-Viz adjustable site and that solved it. I've since gone to a Truglo red dot. Sighting in is a real pain in the shoulder! Especially with turkey loads, like others have said shoot bird shot in close until you get in sited in and then just try the heavy loads to verify their range and pattern.
  10. I'm a little late as usual but here's my 870 super magnum Express 12 ga. I painted it years ago, I need to touch it up and paint the pistol grip stock to match. My son gave me the new stock 4-5 years ago, I waited to paint it as I wasn't sure I was going to like it? I guess it's time!
  11. I'm good for Monday, what time? I missed the first invite?
  12. yes, I actually like the burritos better than the muffins.
  13. Run and gun breakfast burritos, scrambled eggs, venison breakfast sausage, fried potatoes with peppers and onions, cheese, and of course Franks! I'll throw these in the freezer and 3 minutes in the microwave and boom! Breakfast! Great for early morning Turkey hunting.
  14. One more thing about blind hunting that I didn't see mentioned before is bring a good set of ear muffs! Even with the muzzle pointed outside of the blind the report will cause hearing damage. I just picked up a pair of Walkers game ears, they should help me hear better and they will shut off and protect my ears when i shoot my gun. I'll let you know next week if they work!
  15. Everything G-man said. Plus don't over call!! We practice calling so much before the season that I think we want to hear ourselves call when we hunt. Best if you hear birds, try mimicking what and how they are talking. If you can get a dominate hen cranked up she might come by to run you off and bring a gobble with her in tow. General rule is if you can see the bird don't call, their hearing is soo good that it will pick you off. Decoys are a total other subject!! I like to set up a hen with a Jake decoy close by, but I only use them when I hunt field edges, as they can be easily spotted by a gobbler. And I don't want to carry all that extra crap when I'm running and gunning. Blind hunting is nice because it hides your movement, you'll need a chair that is quiet and comfy, and high enough to see out the windows. Folding lawn chairs don't work. IMO Good luck and enjoy the spring season, I'm sure once you get a bird to gobble to your calls you'll be hooked! Remember the hardest part of turkey hunting is putting 2 feet on the floor!
  16. You'll be turkey hunting from the hot tub!!
  17. Still keeping busy, at least until 5/1, then the shop closes for a month for some reason? I built a couple of new check out counters for Ed Youngs Hardware, I'll be adding plexiglas sheilds on top to give the cashier some level of protection once the countertops are done. I believe the shields are going to be the "new normal" as this virus crap is going to with us for quite some time?
  18. I have a Remington 870 ulti mag 12 ga., can use up to 3.5" shells. I use 3" Winchester LR #5 iirc? I don't need the extra kick of the 3.5". It patterns very good out to 40, I'm sure it's good to 50 but, I hope to never find out! My buddy says the rage in the NWTF world is going to 410 ga with the TSS shot. I believe G-Man is correct with the NWTF bringing in new ideas/trends to the banquets to create a bidding frenzy.
  19. Where's your mask? I'm reporting you to King Andy!! Happy birthday Kathy! The wife and I have been doing little day trips on the nice sunny days too. We drove through Allegheny SP twice now, did a bag lunch in the car so not to come in contact with people. Do the trip in the opposite direction and get gas in Irving for < $1/gal!!
  20. I assume you have the bucket set up with the outlet above the inlet to allow for debris to settle?
  21. the existing 55 gal drum has filter cloth over the top to keep out debris. we just remove the screen to fill the containers. I'll look into a low voltage inline pump.
