Anyone Camo Dip their own stuff?
2012_taco replied to Rev Ev's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I would like to try the swirl dip for my turkey gun, I had it camo painted years ago and that is all scratched off and looks like crap. does any one know what kind of paint they use in the dip process? I like the looks of the camo dip kits just don't want to spend 100 bucks, would rather try the diy swirl paint. I have also use the shrink wrap skins and they look ok but they allow moisture to get behind them and by the end of May you can have rusting. Plus they tear easily on briars etc. -
Thanks, I will PM as soon as I know when we are going to Clifton park.

I have a family party to go to in may and hate to lose a may weekend, so I was wondering if anyone out there knows of decent state land near Clifton Park where I could hunt in the AM and still make it to my family get together?

Does any one know of a local butcher shop that will take clean venison meat and make hot dogs and dogs w/cheese and jalapenos in the western NY area? I know about Wilsons meat Market in Canaseraga but that is almost 2 hours away. although I have had their hot dogs and they are great, I would rather not go that far for 10-20 lbs. of hot dogs.

I have a recipe for corned venison I will have to dig it out and post it. It turns out great, and if you smoke the venison after the brine you have pastrami. That is the best.

Had 2 come in while I was turkey hunting chasing a doe, happened so fast I didn't do anything but watch. It ruined my hunt though. I don't know if I would have shot as I am there to turkey hunt and don't want to disturb the woods with all the noise. Although the next time one ruins my morning hunt I don't think I will be able to control myself.

If you have the time pick up a book by Eileen Clark called "Sausage Season" it is a step by step book on making all kinds of wild game sausage. Available @ www.riflesandrecipes.com I got a copy and read it cover to cover(thanks Lawdwaz) she is very particular in the process from the butchering to the final stuffing. She specifically talks about the snap or bite and the texture and what it takes to get it right. Basically keep the meat cold 28* and soaking the natural casing in salt water over night and rinsing them and putting them back in fresh salt water until ready to stuff. Another thing is the mixing the batch for at least 6 minutes in a good mixer to release the natural proteins in the meat this makes the texture right and can not be skipped. All the recipes are for 1.5 lb. batches so if you don't like it or really screw it up you don't throw out a ton of meat. I am looking forward to trying a batch with her guidance. All my experiments in the past were ok but never the same as store bought product. Homemade venison hot dogs with jalapeno peppers and cheese!!!! can't wait.

Holes in my apple trees
2012_taco replied to BornToHunt's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I'm not trying to sabotage this thread but I need advise on pruning apple trees. I know you are supposed to take out the suckers and I heard that each main branch should only have 2 side branches but I look at my apples and they are out of control and I fear taking too much off. The fruit last year was plentiful although very small sized. I need to see how to prune a tree because I've read about it on line and it just confuses me. -
I though as much, thanks guys for your info, I already tossed it. Might just put the window sticker on the truck.

Any one heard of the North American Hunting Club? I received a packet in the mail saying I was pre-approved as a product tester, all I have to do is join for only $1 /month. Seems like it has scam written all over it. Free products sent to you to test and keep....really? and a subscription to North American Hunter magazine. Thought I would ask around before I toss this in the recycling bin.

Is the deck all pressure treated wood or is it wood framed with synthetic wood decking? Is it nailed down or deck screws. Could be a lot of factors. How is the deck supported frost heaving very bad this year, just look at all the roads!!
