  1. Gravy hell no, its either called sauce or ragu...will never hear an italian calling a tomato sauce a gravy.
  2. I have been around sauce my whole life, from my grandparents, to my parents to my wife and we have never used carots. We use a plum tomato called San Marzano, they are naturally sweeter, less acidic and have less seeds. Use this variety and you will never use another type of tomato.
  3. Cant agree anymore, not sure why others use ground to make jerky. Whole roasts are the only way to go. I use a brine, with lots of different seasonings (NEVER store bought prepared jerky seasoning). My jerky sits in the brine overnight in the fridge, then slowly smoked for 18 to 20 hrs. People cant get enough of that stuff.
  4. No worries, anyone that does their fair share of smoking jerky knows thats the color of a perfect peice of heaven...lol...gotta make a new batch, kids and family are hounding me. I must make like 30# to 40# of that stuff throughout the year. Its an excellent snack, enjoy!!!
  5. Dried venison sausauge, cheese and some backstraps wrapped in bacon ready for the barbecue.
  6. Go back and give that first Dr. Hell!!!!
  7. The bear i harvested was in central NY, lots of corn around. The meat was delicious. We made it several ways, steaks rubbed in olive oil and garlic cooked over applewood. Also made cubes cooked in crock pot with mixed vegtables...whatever you do ensure it is cooked very well as you can get trichinosis. Ensure that you trim away all fat (theres lots of it).. Good luck.
  8. Thats a good thing, if you have the does sooner or later the big boys will stroll through. Im sure of the 12 a few call your property their home. The does will be back. Let those little guys feel their way for now, they get frisky this time of year.
  9. They are being harrassed by the little boys, probably being chased all over.
  10. Had a nest in my dads elevated box blind, as soon as i stepped foot on the carpet they scattered everywhere. It was comical, them trying to get away and me stomping them. They came out as the victors...lol..but atleast i tossed their nice comfy nest.
  11. Real nice healthy deer, great to get them before they start chasing the ladies. Congrats.
  12. Welcome Dave and comgrats on the doe. I also have land and hunt in both Deleware and Otsego county.
  13. I know your intentions are to have them grow into trees but be careful, get caught dumping that much in one spot and i can see where a DEC officer will think that your baiting.
  14. All of the older bucks my camp have shot were between 10am to 4:30pm.
  15. God bless him at 94 and was still mowing, we should all be that fortunate. Prayers are with you and his family.
  16. Im sure that weighs very heavy on your heart, gotta give you alot of credit for sitting in that stand. Im positive hes smiling down on you. Hang in there, my prayers for strength are sent.
  17. 47, my mind says im 21 but my body doesnt always agree..
  18. Was wondering the same, i $hit and piss in the woods all the time and dont consider myself a slob hunter. Im actually quite a proficient hunter.
  19. Yes grow i got the joke, was just explaining for those that might not be familiar with staten island.
  20. Agreed, I would definitely wager a bet to say he had family or friend on staten island and im sure that was not his first hunt there.
  21. Grow mentioned it was on neighbors side, that's what i gathered from her post. Hence no shot opportunity?? Yeah maybe a grunt or rack tickle would have helped lure him.
  22. Nah, there are greenbelts throughout staten island outside of that any person can easily see its a well populated boro with houses all over. This yahoo drove god knows how many hours and knew exactly what he was doing. Jeez i can be in staten island in 15 minutes and i know exactly where there is a 150 class double drop tine, but i choose to drive 3 1/2 hrs to camp. To me what these morons do is not hunting, their just rack crazy. Beleive me hes not the first and wont be the last. There are some absolute slob bucks on S.I...
  23. Thats a real nice size female yote, congrats.
