Most of my mature bucks were shot in just about miserable conditions. Shot a 10 after sitting in rain all day, shot a 9 three years ago in late ML season with over foot of snow on ground and was snowing when i shot him, shot a couple 8's and a absolute pig of a 6 pointer during snow storms, there are others but you get the idea. I have shot deer on sunny days but mostly does and young bucks..Takes alot to get a mature buck on his feet during daylight and it usually revolves around 2 things, food and the ladies.
-
Thats pretty awesome, not many people get a chance to witness that.
-
If shes ripe, theres no stopping them. So your friend actually witnessed the doe standing for those bucks or was she just being bumped?

Welcome Gena, glad you joined!!! Best of luck this season.

These guys seem to be taking advantage of your families kindness and to me sounds like a whole lack of respect for you and your land. You have the proof in those pics and what your grandfather saw, if he denies it, let him know you have proof and deny him all rights.

Ok so i guess we should close this thread. Shut it down mods. Thought forum was for entertainment , information and debate.

And if they are like my grandparents and parents and were right off the boat, gravy is not even part of their vocabulary. And if they spoke italian like my grandparents did and my parents do, the term used would be salsa.
-
Gravy to me always meant that brown stuff you might put on steak or mashed potatoes. Just never heard that term used to reference a sauce.
-
Oh man, that does not look safe at all.
-
Im first generation italian american and gravy was never part of my or my families vocabulary when it came to sauce/ragu, guess your not hanging out with the real italians. Plain and simple a sauce or ragu is not gravy. Call it what you want. Now get back to hunting...lol..
-
Cooked all day with meat would be called a ragu, my family is as italiam as it gets. Never called a sauce a gravy, especially a sunday Ragu.
-
Shes the real deal. Theres nothing like a good ole fashioned italian homemade sauce..yum
-
OMG, dont let my parents hear you say that...lol...sauce from a jar, NEVER. Us Sicilians would rather starve.
-
My parents boil thier jars to seal and have never had an issue with low acidic sauce. Not sure for the pressure cooker, never used one to seal jars.
-
Gravy hell no, its either called sauce or ragu...will never hear an italian calling a tomato sauce a gravy.
-
I have been around sauce my whole life, from my grandparents, to my parents to my wife and we have never used carots. We use a plum tomato called San Marzano, they are naturally sweeter, less acidic and have less seeds. Use this variety and you will never use another type of tomato.

Cant agree anymore, not sure why others use ground to make jerky. Whole roasts are the only way to go. I use a brine, with lots of different seasonings (NEVER store bought prepared jerky seasoning). My jerky sits in the brine overnight in the fridge, then slowly smoked for 18 to 20 hrs. People cant get enough of that stuff.
-
No worries, anyone that does their fair share of smoking jerky knows thats the color of a perfect peice of heaven...lol...gotta make a new batch, kids and family are hounding me. I must make like 30# to 40# of that stuff throughout the year. Its an excellent snack, enjoy!!!

The bear i harvested was in central NY, lots of corn around. The meat was delicious. We made it several ways, steaks rubbed in olive oil and garlic cooked over applewood. Also made cubes cooked in crock pot with mixed vegtables...whatever you do ensure it is cooked very well as you can get trichinosis. Ensure that you trim away all fat (theres lots of it).. Good luck.

Thats a good thing, if you have the does sooner or later the big boys will stroll through. Im sure of the 12 a few call your property their home. The does will be back. Let those little guys feel their way for now, they get frisky this time of year.
-
They are being harrassed by the little boys, probably being chased all over.
