  1. The Apex is a much better quality boot with leather uppers and lace up. I also liked the look of the Apex over their other models.
  2. The Baffin Apex boots just arrived. Im a size 10 1/2 and i got a size 12 boot and they are snug and will fit perfect with one heavy sock. The boot seems very well made, insulation foam is super thick and they are very comfy. Not a boot you would walk around in all day, but definitely seems great for using on stand. Will test them out next weekend.
  3. Liver looks fine. That is the first thing i cook as soon as i get back to camp, its good for you as its high in iron. We slice it up amd cook it with onions and vinegar.
  4. Yes always use a lube on both the breach plug threads and also on the barrel threads before each reinstall, never had an issue. I never use that butter. I clean my muzzlelaoder and oil the barrel like any other centerfire rifle.
  5. I currently use cabelas 2000 gram rubber boots, the key to keeping my feet warm is i first put on a pair of lite dress sock and over that i use Alpacha socks. And another key ingredient is to go 2 sizes up with any boot you get so you have enough space to move your toes. A tight boot is your worst enemy. This combination has worked very well for many years. I recently ordered a pair of Baffin boots and will test them out in the late season. Although i like my rubber boots, they can make slight noises at times as i walk.
  6. I can assure you there is one less pair of 12's on ebay, enjoy your dinner
  7. Funny thing i found the apex for 170 on Amazon and i had thought that was a steal. A few minutes later i checked ebay and found them for 156. Just canceled the Amazon order. Sometimes it pays to research just a little more.
  8. Based upon my reasearch Baffins best is the Apex. They are rated to neg. 148 F and are waterproof. But if you decide on a model do not order from Baffin directly. Baffin and Cabelas both had the Apex for $289.00. I found the same exact boot for $156.00 on ebay and just ordered them. Came to $170.00 with tax, free shipping. That model had great reviews. Ill take a $120.00 saving any day of the week.
  9. Thanks for the info. Men. Although my 2000 gram rubber boots kept my feet warm they often made uneeded noise. So under your suggestions i just ordered the baffin Apex boots. If i read it correctly they are rated to a negative 148F, thats insane. Early xmas gift from the mrs...lol..
  10. Thats a great buck, and daytime pics. to boot. Should hunt him hard.
  11. Last 6 years or so I have been using my dads 50+ year old marlin 336 in 35 caliber with a tasco 3x9 variable scope. He doesnt hunt much anymore, so i told him its mine now...lol.. Love that gun. Its lightweight, compact and wallops a nice punch. Something about those old lever actions that adds to the excitement of the hunt.
  12. I have two, came in handy with all that snow we has last year. From the looks of things will need to use it opening day.
  13. Take a pic when done, that would be a riot.
  14. Yes i agree that there are people that can be jealous , i made it a point to make mention of that in my response, i have witnessed it myself on many ocassions. I try to distance myself from those sorts of people. Perfect example of how we should treat each other was last year i took my nephew out for his first hunt ever, my only recommendation to him was to try and let the button bucks go. I did all the work to my property and he helped some, i basically showed him where to go, all he had to do was aim and shoot straight. So what do you think he shoots? You got it, a button buck. Guess what my reaction was? I gave him a big hug and a kiss and told him congrats and i was proud of him. I may make recommendations to others because its my property, but i never hold anyone to my standards. I must have said this a million times on this site, "LIFE IS WAY TO SHORT TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT IMPLEMENTS OR TACTICS OTHERS USE WITHIN LEGALITY, IN THE END NO ONE WILL LOOK BACK AND JUDGE YOU BECAUSE YOU USED A CROSSBOW. Enjoy everything while you can , either with bow or crossbow. Sorry but im being brutally honest.
  15. Whenever i go into different stands, i always make a mental note of things i want done before next season. i.e..new plots, tree prunning / trimming, fix this fix that etc..a constant labor of love.
  16. 15 minutes ago, Core said: I'm surprised you'd question how it would impact another's hunting. The fact that buck no longer exists would ^^And to your point above, you cant honestly beleive that crossbows will eliminate the existence of all or even most bucks., do you?
  17. Sorry but maybe im made from another cloth, im happy when others get deer wether it be with bow or crossbow. So your saying that physically abled bow hunters are a more determined group of hunters and therefore should have sole rights to bow season?
  18. I can go to a stand not see squat for 12 hrs, go back next day and shoot a big buck. Have patience grasshopper.
  19. Biz by the looks of the picture hes waiting for you, all ready in position..lol
  20. Its funny Belo your hypothetical scenario is exactly my situation. I do a TON of work to my property ( mind you it takes me 3 1/2 hrs to get there, one way) and I take my hunting very serious (i owe it to the animals). My neighbor does absolutely nothing to his property other than selective timber harvests and reaps the benefits of all my hard work year after year (but so do I). On the flip side i also benefit from his property as a bedding area. At times i get the big one and others he does. That will never change what i want to do to my property nor do i see any jealousy from what he kills. We offer each other a hand with dragging from time to time, but what he does or what he gets has no bearing on my hunting attitude. If i had to worry in the least about what others kill i would have given up on hunting a long time ago. Have confidence in your ability, work hard, put in the time and dont give a shit what others around you are doing (as long as legal) , that my friend is the key. Ive had family and friends alike get jealous of my kills ( i can see it in their eyes and facial expressions), i never understood that mentality.
  21. You did the right thing, been there done that.
  22. From what I have read here i cant beleive hunters would actually get upset because they might see someone with a nice buck they took with a crossbow at 50 yards? Why get upset, how would that ever impact your hunting? Why not just be happy for that guy/gal. Man, people should really only worry what they are doing and stop being so concerned how others take deer, as long as its legal have at it.
