I was walking to my stand this weekend along the field line and the corn is still standing. The walk is a couple of hundred yards and it seemed every 50-100 feet I walked doves with explode out of the corn. I must have put up around 30-50 birds during that walk to the stand and was thinking that it would be a lot of fun to make a day out of hunting them. I know NY does not currently have a dove season, but does anyone know where were at in terms of getting one implemented?

Was thinking about putting all the quarters in a crock pot and making a Wild Turkey Cacciatore, but would like to hear what everyone else's favorite way to prepare a wild turkey is?

Will a spike grow to be anything more than a spike?

Good to know. All cow horns now get passes now. -

I do believe cow horn bucks will not change though. My first deer I shot was a "Spike" but each horn was about over a foot in length and he had a pretty large body. I could be wrong here though. Anyone else think this to be true as well? -

Great read.....Only problem is in NYS southern tier 4 1/2 year old deer are hard to come by. I could see that deer making it out of the spike stage where I hunt but once he was sporting that 2 1/2 year old rack he would be a prime target for the majority of hunters in the southern zone. -
I had a severely torn labrum repaired a few years ago. They put 5 anchors in my arm and I was in a sling for the first month. Started physical therapy after I was out of the sling and don't think I would have been able to draw back on a bow no matter what the weight for at least 3 months. I would be careful. The shoulder is one of the most complex joints and once an issue occurs its easy to re-injure it. That's exactly why I scheduled that surgery for the beginning of January so I was still able to enjoy the season.

I think in the UK they use these as their police dogs also no?

I tried looking in the book and maybe I am not looking hard enough, but am I aloud to carry my pistol with me while bow hunting? I know you can't carry a shotgun and bow at the same time, but what about a side arm?

Had it for the first time two years ago. Any heart that isn't blown apart gets brought back to camp. Can't wait to try the fajita idea.

Thanks Pygmy..... The second I shouldered it in the store I wanted to throw my wallet at them it felt really nice and the price tag didn't seem to unreasonable....Might just have to take a ride back to the store this weekend. Everything I have read said if your buying a gun from CZ after 2007 they have worked out all issues and build a quality firearm. Thanks for the input guys.

Great pics....Just out of curiosity how did you get all the meat home? You must have a jam packed freezer!

Nothing yet by me in 4Y

Its around 70 degrees in the city right now not sure what the temp is up around you. If it was me I would not risk eating something that's been sitting in the temperature all day long.

Anyone here have any of the new models of a CZ over under 20 gauge? I was in gander mountain this weekend and was taking a look at one. Shouldered real nice and was in the market for a 20 gauge. Didn't want to make an impulse purchase without doing some research. Main purpose for this gun would be small game hunting, upland bird hunting and some trap and skeet practice.

Well I guess today seems like a good day to ask this question. Anyone have any recommendations for good quality but reasonably priced rain gear? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Came to camp but didn't bother getting up. Hopefully it will stop by 3-4 and I can get a few hrs in. Tomorrow morning looks good though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the feedback Gizmo. I will attempt a few runs with the snack sticks with beef first before I waste any valuable venison. Would you mind sharing your snack stick recipe? Would love to give it a try!

Thanks gizmo.... That makes sense... So my assumption then is my snack stick recipe this year should have powdered milk right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll be up with the bow might do a sit or two and then small game hunt the rest of the time. Would like to get some bunnies in the freezer for some good fall stews.

He talks about this more in his book and I believe also describes the process better, but I found this for you: http://themeateater.com/2012/bear-fat-recipe/
