My venison project for this week....
BKhunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
I am in the process of attempting the reference link they look pretty good so far!! IMG_5975.jpeg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Just recently bought new arrows from a new shop and I started think after I picked them up if they could have set up my arrows differently than the last shop I used. I have a drop away rest and generally left the odd color vein facing up. Is it possible this new shop might set up their arrows differently and could therefore affect my shot? And for this simple reason alone is why I would like to learn how to do all of this stuff myself as far as arrow building and bow tuning. Any advice is greatly appreciated?

I am thinking about trying this out with some venison I have left over to grind. Looks pretty good: http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/the-wild-chef/recipe-how-to-make-jalape%C3%B1o-country-venison-sausage?dom=fas&loc=contentwell&lnk=recipe-how-to-make-jalapeo-country-venison-sausage&dom=fas&loc=contentwell&lnk=IMG -

Wonder if they thought this would happen?

I have used both my selection for the same WMU and have received a bonus DMP in the mail once the season started. I believe this is due to what Culver said above the WMU being under applied for so they sent extras to whomever applied and won. -

I bought a Matthews Chill last year as a gift to myself for turning 30, before that I had a PSE start up set up that I bought when I wanted to see what bow hunting was all about. That bow lasted 10 years and did its job. I plan on having my Matthews for longer than the PSE. I like using the same bow year after year, I feel more comfortable in my abilities and as members said earlier technology does not change to much year after year to justify the expenditure of buying a new one.

Heading up this weekend to check on stands and glass the fields....Can't wait

Never had a problem with reapers... Only mechanical I ever used and every deer I've shot hasn't gone more than 50 yards. I am trying out NAP thunderhead fixed broad heads this year. We'll see how this experiment goes. I still have six reaper heads as back up just in case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Floyd Benet field in Brooklyn I am told has a long range. Haven't confirmed this in person but thats what I am told. If you wind up going I would love to know if this is true.

Only time I would use a crossbow is if I became physically unable to draw back in my compound. It just does not interest me but I love my time in the woods and if old age limits my abilities I would go that route in order to get my time in the stand Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think that's what kinda intrigues me. The fact that your being hunted as you hunt them makes it something special.... Call me sick Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I watch the series on discovery or history channel called The Hunt where they follow different hunters during their guided hunts on Alaska's Kodiak island. That island looks intense and like one of the most memorable hunts anyone could ever go on and would have to save for a lifetime to really afford. When googling prices these guides look like they are getting around 18-20 K a hunt. Just curious if anyone here as ever done that trip or has plans to. Just curious how it was if someone did go there or knew someone that did.

I skin it and quarter it at camp and throw it into a cooler.....Once I'm home I take care of the butchering and packing usually with a 6 pack and the game on......Makes it more enjoyable than doing it outside on a picnic table freezing my butt off. Pretty sure you can fit a large cooler in the trunk of a car saves your from the mess as well.

I would say the majority of NYS hunters hunt the Morning and Evening and then go back to their cabin at camp or house. Camping out is more for bush and deep woods hunts. Haven't done it yet but looking forward to the experience.

Tooks some chop meat out last night and put it into the fridge...When I cam home from work it still wasn't completely thawed out so used a portion that was thawed and made a nice fat burger with raw red onion melted cheddar cheese with sweet baby rays bbq sauce on a toasted bun....Tomorrow sloppy Joes await. Still have some meat left in the freezer so there will be a lot of venison eaten between now and October......no complaints here though.

I tired online don't like how they don't offer the option for sportsman/super sportsman anymore. Also got the DMP is closed for the season message. I guess I will try in a week or so. Hopefully they will have their act together by then, but who am kidding.

I never wore a mask or face paint and haven't had a problem yet. As G-man said lack of movement is key as well as scent control. I have seen deer put there nose up and turn the other way due to scent or movement but never from looking at my face.

I hunt in 4y and have so for the 10 years I've been hunting. Never seen a bear or bear sign for that matter. I wouldn't mind the population spreading down our way. would love to get a chance to hunt a black bear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
