  1. Hitch....don't have to worry about anything dripping on your car either.
  2. They are responding to grunts too....I grunted at a large 5 point that was jogging away from me at 50 yards. He stopped dead in his tracks spun around and came within 10 yards of my stand trying to figure out where the noise came from. I passed as I am waiting for something bigger but wanted to see how they are responding to certain tactics.
  3. I'm shocked that the corn is still standing at this time of year. Once that is cut it will change things so I wouldn't be two quick to change spots. One thing you need to be aware of are the travel routes and where the deer are bedding. You are set up away from these routes to and from their beds your chances of sightings are diminished dramatically. Also, now the Rut is on at least where I hunt most logic gets tossed out of the window as deer break habit. You need to look at an aerial photo of where you hunt (Google Maps Satellite) as well as the evidence you see on the ground while scouting to get a better understand of your property. The more time in the woods and in the stand and you will get a better understanding of how to better hunt that piece of property. I hunting for 3-4 years before I got my first deer on the property I hunt. After that I know harvest an animal every year and have become very selective on what I take. This weekend for instance I passed on at least 12 deer as I am not worried about filling the freezer with does and would like to take a mature buck.
  4. In NYC that person has to turn them in. I just went through the process. If you don't declare a person that will surrender the firearm they will not issue the permit.
  5. I was just about to post this. I guess this is what a billion dollars from Cuomo buys.
  6. To add more mystery....What happens if you shoot a doe on Friday and don't have a DMP tag for regular season and when you come upon the doe Saturday morning it's still alive??? Riddle me that.
  7. My assumption is that since the DEC gives you a window of few days to report your deer, you should be putting the day you shot the animal and it should go on your archery tag since that is the weapon you harvested the animal with. The carrying a shotgun question is a loaded questions, as my assumption is you shouldn't have a problem, but those who enforce laws like to bend them to what suits them the best. I would give a call to the DEC for this one just to be on the safe side and take down the information of whomever you speak to along with the date and time. This way your are covering yourself.
  8. Saw one rub line last weekend and that was it up in 4Y. Hopefully this weekend things really start to kick off.
  9. This would make up for all of the crappy weekends we got so far. Nothing I like more than hunting in the snow.
  10. In addition I just bought two rolls of 50 foot by 11.5 inch bags from eBay for $25.... No need to buy the brand name bags. Save your money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. The question I have is these people were now elected into office due to their constituents dislike for the safe act. Will they do anything to show they are actually against this law instead of just saying it in order to get elected.
  12. All I did was say my name and address when I voted never showed my license. Kinda mad me think.
  13. I really would like to see him be indicted in regards the dismantling of the Moreland commission. Hopefully he would be forced to resign from there we could get someone in that believes in repealing the SAFE Act.
  14. I am in my young 30's and live in Brooklyn. I voted for Astorino, and the majority of people my age whether friends, associates or co-workers did not vote. I agree with the above mentioned comment that stated younger people were more eager to vote, but I think that was solely for the presidential election. When I did speak to people about voting for governor the answer I got was I probably would vote for Cuomo or I didn't even know there was a race. When I asked why they would vote for Cuomo they had no educated response except that they knew of him. The problem here was money. Cuomo had roughly 48 million in his war chest while Astorino had a measly 5. With that huge financial gap he still put up a pretty good fight and made his name known to the people that actually cared to educate themselves and make a sound decision.
  15. Woke up at 430 and saw bushes and trees nearly bent over from the wind..... Not even safe to be out there. Hopefully the weather gets cooperative seems every weekend I have the chance to get out it's one thing or another with wind or rain Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Had nothing all morning been windy all day and have only seen a few rubs and a few scraps.... Usually see a lot more sign by this time of year.... Back out for the afternoon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. If you have scent free clothing it is due to some carbon element. After awhile the carbon absorbs the maximum amount of scent before it is "full" in order to reactivate the carbon you need to use heat i.e. the dryer. I have read this in a few books. I would say go for it and use the dryer sheets that are discussed above.
  18. Anyone have any thoughts on a 45 70? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Still looking for 4R for a 4Y
  20. We have an over abundance and it shows in the small game population. We thin them out whenever we get the chance.
  21. I have made Jerky in my dehydrator and attempted it in my smoker. When I made it in my smoke it wouldn't hold a low heat so it came out over done. How many of you make it in a dehydrator over a smoker and if you make it in a smoker how do you do it as I would like to make another attempt. Also any of your favorite recipes would be appreciated as I am getting a little tired of the Teriyaki. Thanks again.
  22. Should be cooked like backstrap.....medium rare....if you over cook it, it will taste like rubber. +1 on the liver thread
  23. I prefer to take does for meat and then antler hunt after that. In the beginning I would take fork horns and spikes, but my views have changed now. I see no reason why new hunters get knocked for harvesting smaller bucks. Its a learning experience and its not like we have an over supply of massive mature bucks walking around.
