  1. I'm going to be traveling with a 12 gauge autoloader and bolt action 30-06 you think I will able to cut room for the bother? it says its a double rifle case but that would seem like a lot to cut with not much left. Your photo just shows one rifle completely broken down. I don't plan on breaking down the guns just pulling the bolt on the 06. What do you think?
  2. I just found a pack of stew meat from the 2012 season. It must have gotten lost in the shuffle in my chest freezer. It was vacuum packed. Would you guys still eat it? Thinking of grinding it to make either chili or burgers. Haven't really perfected my stews yet. Some cubes come out tender and other ones come out dry. Since its old I think I'm better grinding it but would like to hear everyones thoughts.
  3. I read his other American Buffalo which was very good in my opinion as well. I wish i could watch his show but my cable provider doesn't carry that channel. I used to watch his other show I forget what its called. It was years ago.
  4. How do you guys make your stew in the crockpot? Just curious and looking for new recipes.
  5. Law, Yes this first trip I would be traveling with my 30-06 bolt action and a auto loader 12 gauge....Its a double rifle case.
  6. I just recently bought a pelican case and in the owners manual it talks about cutting the foam to customize my case. I plan on traveling with many different guns at different times so I don't want to cut the foam specifically for one gun. Do I have to cut the foam or can I leave it as is? Is this a big deal? I mean its foam I figure without cutting it, it will keep the gun snug and will not move at all.
  7. Thanks for the info. I will actually be flying down to FL to visit my cousin. Going to be doing some duck and hog hunting. Can't wait, this will be my first time hunting out of state and first time hunting ducks and hog. Pretty pumped.
  8. I will be traveling with my firearms for the first time and I was wondering what locks everyone uses. I have a pelican case, but the pelican locks from what I read still allow anyone to open the case about 3 inches and can slide some items out. are their any locks that people use for pelican cases that are TSA compliant and do not allow this?
  9. I am looking into taking a trip down to FL to visit a friend and he will be taking me duck hunting for the first time. I am told I need to bring a pair of waders. Can anyone recommend a good pair? I have a feeling that this is something that I will def be hooked on right away so I don't want to cheap out on something that will only last me a couple of uses but don't need to buy top of the line either. I would like something that I can use up here as well so I assume I need to get something that is good in all temps. Any help is greatly appreciated as I know nothing about duck hunting and what features I should be looking for. Thanks in advance.
  10. I've only used pellets. Easy to carry load and measure real quickly. Never had a problem with my TC so have not had a reason to go to powder.
  11. Currently I do the same. When I first started I took mostly anything. Now that I know more and put more time in the woods before the season and during the season I look for more mature deer. I will only take a 6 if the six points are on the main beams. I had a nice big wide four this year with no tines. Even if he had the tines counting him as a six I still would have passed. Saw him 3-4 times this year. If he made it through this season he will be a real nice deer next year.
  12. I usually see a coyote or two each season and take them out if I have a shot, but this year I didn't see any. I plan on doing a little predator hunting this year to see if I can call them in. I do think that the harsh winter last year played a part. We did see deer this year, just nothing with a nice rack. Large Mature does were few and far between, but I know they are out there along with the mature bucks. We would see big bodied deer in the fields while getting back to our cars with very little light left. I was also an area where no one was aloud to hunt. I think the deer patterned us hahaha.
  13. Base layers are the most important thing. Do that right and you will be able to sit for longer periods. Just don't wear them all on your freak into the stand you will sweat like hell and then freeze Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Hello, I am looking into purchasing a spotting scope for range shooting. I recently bought Vortex bino's and was very happy with them so I was looking into that branch for the spotting scope. I also saw some good deals on Leopold for about $300-$400. Not trying to break the bank as I see some in the thousands but looking for a good quality scope for a fair price. Can anyone make any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
  15. Correct. I hang out and see if I can catch the coyotes moving. It isn't illegal to hunt those as your are able to hunt them at night. How does one prove what you are hunting.
  16. Made lasagna tonight with homemade venison sweet Italian sausage....came out amazing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I can see perfect 30 min before and after. I can't understand why it isn't aloud. I don't think orange should be mandatory for that to take effect but if that was the only way for it to get approved.... Bring on the orange! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Beautiful morning.... Still no deer. What gives! Hunting the rest if the am then heading home. Hope next weekend isn't this slow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. 18 here had to throw two earners in... Haven't seen anything and only heard 3 shots..... Very quiet for this early in the season reminds me of black powder season Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. +1 with everyone above, especially regarding the first deer. Always know what is beyond your target. I hunt for the meat, the horns are an extra bonus. If I don't see anything with a medium to large rack I let it go and am perfectly happy harvesting does with my other tags so I have meat in the freezer and real life experience with shot placement. Like you I respect the animal and do not like it suffering. I hope all my shots are clean kills. Does it happen where sometime they are not? Of course, but that is the nature of what we do.
  21. All I can say is stay away from propane smokers. I bought one and hate the thing. Temp doesn't get low enough and just find it to be a piece of junk.
  22. Gun sales are through the roof down there. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/11/19/some-gun-dealers-report-brisk-sales-ahead-grand-jury-decision-in-ferguson/?intcmp=latestnews
  23. That is pretty scary and I am with you on taking my business out of state if this is ever implemented. I believe I brought this up in another thread but I will raise these points again Some of the stupidity in this law. 1. If I reload who is stop me from collecting brass at a range that is linked to all these other people and reloading that so it's not linked to me (I guess Albany didn't think how that can ruin innocent lives if those casings were used in a crime if micro stamping went into effect with ammo). 2.The safe act was born from mass shootings. Can you please tell me when a mass shooting occurred and they didn't know every detail as where the gun was from, how they received the weapon etc. before the safe act 3. I believe this last concern to be the one that really should be heard by every person who helped write and voted for the safe act....."REMIND ME AGAIN HOW CRIMINALS FOLLOW GUN LAWS!!!"
