  1. You can get a used Elite on Archerytalk or Elite classified. You MUST know your draw length. Visit your local shop to get measured and check out any deals he may have on new leftover bows, I got one of mine cheap that way.
  2. Nice deer, you never forget your first, congratulations and welcome to the club.
  3. This is what I use for cold weather bowhunting, when I need to shoot my hands are exposed for a couple minutes but worth it to be able to put a good kill shot where it needs to be.
  4. I used to go to Huntington Rifle & Pistol Range on LI years ago when I wanted to shoot but did not have the time to go upstate. A quick google search should give you some more info.
  5. That's a lot of meat from one deer, must have been a big one. The deer I shoot, although not small, are not as big as yours.
  6. Approx. 20 cheaper in NJ than NY,because of taxes.
  7. db he did get ground,he called it chopped meat. Lot of meat you got there, must have been a good size.
  8. Past legal shooting means no shooting… gun or bow. Perhaps the only thing one can do is call the warden and have him do the dispatch, otherwise wait till it dies, then it's all legal. My deer die from fright just knowing I'm in the woods so I never worry about a senario such as you described.
  9. Relax Rob, just a couple guys having a laugh, you can't go on an internet forum and not expect to get "spanked" on occasion.
  10. Mising work cost me money too, no work = no pay. As far as the other hunters ruining your hunt, they have a responsibility to recover thier deer, maybe they wanted to do it before work so they would not lose money. Tough call, sometimes stuff happens, oh well, dem da breaks.
  11. I think I will just bury it and dig it up in the spring. I've done that before, gives it a sort of "rustic" look. Oh, and I meant to say ABOVE freezing not below. I had some stank going on there.
  12. No problem shooting a solitary doe or a doe with fawns as long as it's at least end of November and I know they will be fine by themselves.
  13. Bushnell Trophy Cam for me, excellent battery life, great pics day and night, video is very cool as well. It's not too spendy in the long run, I've had mine for 4 or 5 yrs now.
  14. Having to skin the buck skull for a euro today after leaving it outside since the 11th, been below freezing in my neck of the woods most of that time, dang it that thing was FUNKY.
  15. Good luck and before you know it, you'll be good as new.
  16. Hey Moog I have one of those, don't worry, it will hardly be noticeable in twenty or thirty years.
  17. I know the feeling well my friend but I always say at those moments when I don't feel like going out that I waited all year for this and wake up early for work, why not hunting. When my body says stay home I force myself to go and am seldom sorry I did.
  18. I gun hunted once 25 years ago, shot a buck and a doe in one sit. Never hunted with a gun again, bought a bow and never looked back. This yearI hurt my shoulder and missed a lot of season but refused to use even a Xbow. Bowhunting… it's what I do… it's what I love.
  19. Hey Meat Manager, lots of deer in NJ and an unlimited doe season that lasts five months, can't beat that. I thought I posted that I shot this doe in NJ but I think I did it on my other 8pt thread. Sorry to confuse you nice folks.
  20. I hope this helps some folks with thier hunting and will prevent the ethics police from giving me grief.
  21. Colts Neck, New Jersey - Sunrise Sunset Calendar.pdfHere is the calander I use, you can have one of these for each town you hunt in, handy when your hunting all over the place.
  22. NJ legal hunting time is one half hour before sunrise and one half hour after sunset. In my hunting area sunrise was 6:58AM so legal time is 6:28AM. It does change quite a bit everyday so one must be careful one week to the next, actualy one day to the next. Usually legal time is also when I can see my pins clearly.
  23. 2 for 2 with this bow, 35 yard shot. Two minutes into legal shooting time I slipped my arrow between the ribs of this 1 1/2yr old doe never hearing that loud THWACK I have come to love. At first I thought I gut shot it because of the sound but she ran forty yrds , stopped, did the wobble and down she went. Climbed down from my stand at 6:36A and spent the rest of the day with family… after a quick trip to the butcher. At this rate my freezer will soon be full.
