  1. My buddy shot this 7 point on my farm this morning. I saw him come across the top of the field at dark last night from 500 yards away and told my buddy to sit in the blind this morning. I'm just glad the buck cooperated. It's his 2nd buck ever and first in 15 years.
  2. Went to Bass pro last night and saw a lot of people there with guns being dropped off/picked up. Actually heard one guy ask the rep if he needed to shoot it after he bore sighted it...amazing how people procrastinate.
  3. New set for my final reg season archery hunt. Let's hope it pays off!
  4. from my garage window! I am unable to hunt during the week during archery season due to the kids (not complaining, I love my kids). But I am tired of watching the deer file out of the woods within bow range of my stand night after night. Tonight I watched 13 deer (yes 13) walk right passed my stand. Only good thing was none of them had any head gear. On the plus side, once gun season rolls around I will be able to shoot anything that walks across our back field with my gun. If they only knew how screwed they were. If I'm lucky, my 13 year old daughter can watch the 2 younger boys in the morning so I can sit watch for a few hours in the morning. Good luck to the guys who are still out with the bow.
  5. I would say 70-75% of the deer I've shot with with my 30-06 have dropped in their tracks. Those are deer that have been running, standing, walking, starring at me, looking away, etc. The other 25-30% ran and died in sight or just out of it. Have had a few that made it a couple hundred yards before expiring, but have that happen with slug too. This is shooting a 168 grain ballistic tip in the 30-06.
  6. Nice deer. Congrats to your neighbor!
  7. He is a giant! Congrats to your brother.
  8. I helped My buddy buy a bow early this year in hopes he could bowhunt with it this fall. With his work schedule he was never able to take the bow hunter ed course and therefore was unable to this year. On Friday he asked me if he could use his bow during regular firearms season and I said yes. He normally borrows a gun from me to hunt as he had to sell his off a couple years back due to financial reasons. So he says well I don't to borrow a gun from you then. I looked at him puzzled and said why not? He answered cause I'll just use my bow. I continued to tell him I don't he can because regardless of season he still needed his bow certification to hunt with it. So the question is: If you don't have your bow certification can you hunt with your bow during reg firearms season? After thinking more about it I could be wrong. What do y'all think?
  9. Looks like a do it yourself skull mount would be in order if he makes it to Weedsport...haha.
  10. Clear skies, WSW wind (gentle for now), and temps in low 40's. Now time for some buck action.
  11. Nice pic! I saw one nurse last week behind the house. Was surprised to see it.
  12. Wow, that's pretty good yield. We did better on out second field, ~170 or so.
  13. Sitting in a set I haven't been in since October 20. Wind is good, let's hope he makes a mistake today.
  14. It's illegal to take your own dog out to look for possibly dead deer. You have to be a certified handler.
  15. Sounds like a pretty lethal hit. Mark your spot well and look for hair, Deer Search will need it. Good luck and hope they back to you!
  16. I am looking into buying the Browning cam. Seems like a pretty decent cam for the price.
  17. I stumbled upon this page the other day at work. On the top left hand side there is a tab that says "Reviews & tests." If you hover your pointer over that and select "trail camera reviews" you will find a few more selections that can help in your process. There is a lot of good information about the trail cameras. If you are in the market for a new camera, this page should help in your decision making. They even offer the option of buying through them with a pretty decent warranty thrown in. I will be putting in an order at some point in the next few days. See the link below for the website. http://www.trailcampro.com/
  18. Nice looking buck. Hope he makes it to next year.
  19. Congrats! Where did you shoot him?
  20. Shot a doe with Shwackers last year, hard quartering away shot and got a complete pass through. She ran 80 yards and piled up. Shot 2 does this year quartering to me with Rage 2 blades. Complete pass throughs, one ran 60-70 yards and the other ran 50. Both shoot great from my bow and have had great results. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
