  1. I shot a 2.5 year old that was completely grey, so I don't think you can judge a deer by its hair color. I would say that deer is 1.5-2.5 at the oldest. Doesn't show any of the old fart deer characteristics, at least to me.
  2. Some pictures from the last 2 weeks. Looks like one good buck in the bunch. Not sure if he's 3.5 or 2.5, that is the only picture I have of him.
  3. Congrats on a great buck!
  4. Yields are pretty good, in the 140 range. No disease here, our big field is planted on a "drumlin" and the other is a pretty good size hill, so we get pretty good drainage. Price was $4.30 last I knew...ouch! Luckily we don't sell much so we don't rely on that income. We have a good bartering system with our neighbor so that's where most of it goes.
  5. Have you shot any bows to know which ones you like? Have you ever shot a bow before? Since this will be your first bow purchase I would recommend going to a pro shop and having someone help you out. Some pro shops have decent used bows for sale. Believe it or not, you can actually get a pretty decent new bow for around $500. Not sure where you live, but there is probably a pro shop nearby.
  6. Next year I'm not planting to the field edges. I'm gonna leave enough room on the edges to get a wheeler down them and hopefully create a little more room for the deer to stroll along.
  7. My buddy shot the first buck in camp over the weekend on morning watch. Sent me the selfy. Pretty nice little 4 point, 12" spread, 130 lbs dressed. Typical 2.5 year old for our camp in Redfield.
  8. Been on the combine since 12. Got the first 25 acres done, 15 left to go. Wish I was in stand tonight instead of the seat of a combine! Needless to say, I'll be sitting in my climber and hunting the cut corn field this weekend.
  9. I'm going to say 3.5 and 110-120". Nice looking deer for sure.
  10. Not river rd and not Port Byron. It is Weedsport though.
  11. First time sitting evening watch in this new set. Wind is good, let's see if the deer agree.
  12. Nice morning to be sitting. Light breeze, partly cloudy, low 40's, now all I need is a shooter to stroll by shortly.
  13. 1-2 hours before light depending on the stand.
  14. I'm going to say he at least 3.5 and prob in the 110-115" range.
  15. 5 does came through at 0800. A small one decided to bed down and stay for a while. Had to throw my rattle bag at her so I could leave. Wind was really gusting when I left.
  16. Wind is 10-12 mph right now and SSW. Sitting in my set 40 yards from new scrape. Hopefully someone shows up.
  17. I love it! Bought it 11 years ago new from a guy who worked at Remington for $250 (without scope). Second best deal I've ever made on a gun.
  18. Remington 7600 carbine 30-06, Winchester supreme ballistic silver tip 168 gr, topped with Leupold VX1 3-9x40.
  19. Always cool to see the sparring in person. Perhaps next time you hunt there you will try a doe bleat and rattle sequence? Did you actually sit in your stand until after 8 pm?
  20. I'd say 1.5 and probably 15" gross...or are you talking about the stud in the background? haha
  21. I would consider myself to be a "meat hunter". Our main source of protein throughout the year is venison. I tend to shoot 4-5 deer per year and the last 2 years they've been all does. I make my own sweet and hot sausage, venison jerky, venison burger, etc., so we have a nice variety during the year. However, I do like the way antlers look on the wall. And I don't shoot young bucks...anymore.
