  1. Then lets take the first week of gun to antlerless only in the problem areas. It only makes the most sense the get the "problem" dealt with as quickly as possible. I really don't care where they choose to do it. I am not a fan of decreasing a hunter opportunity, that is why I was for a early September 9 day (two weekends). But I understand how many my have an issue dealing with the meat in warm temps. So then how about in early January? I firmly believe that the best was to encourage participation in the reduction they want is to EXPAND opportunity, not take it away.
  2. I have heard a lot on here, myself included, saying the same thing when they did the 2 week in archery.
  3. Let them for the first year or maybe two. Approaching crossbow hunting like gun hunting will guarantee one thing. A great market in a year or two for barely used, like new crossbows for about 50 cents on the dollar. lol
  4. I am not talking about the CURRENT regulations. I was tlaking about the proposed that is referenced in the post title.
  5. But I believe the bill that is in equals the distance of the crossbow to the compound. basically makes it all the same except for the areas the crossbow isn't allowed. and to me those are probably the areas that could have used the most benefit at all.
  6. Seems kind of counter productive the way they went about it. The areas that are the most difficult on population control (bow only areas)were the areas they left out of the new crossbow inclusion.
  7. WJ...how do you like the zip trim? I went for the adapter from lee that chucks into a drill motor. uses the Lee shell bases and length gauges but was thinking that might work pretty well.
  8. Because of his age I am sure we will never know his history.
  9. I haven't been reloading nearly as long as many here but I have used this from the start http://www.midwayusa.com/product/482023/lee-case-sizing-lube-2-oz-tube It dries quickly and I have never had an issue. I typically use it in my necked cases and apply it with a simple Q-tip
  10. The first year I waled into the deer woods with my father was 1973. I have hunted pretty much all over NY state. from Albany area to lake Erie, high peaks and ADK par to the PA boarder, I have seen ups and downs in the deer hunting and deer numbers but over the years i believe the hunting in NY has gotten better than it was when I started into the woods.
  11. I am only 50 Doc, so i am sure you have a longer track record on this than me, but when was Muzzleloader added into the NZ early bow season and when did it happen in the SZ late season?
  12. I didn't count them or the DEC. I wish you guys had come up and introduced yourselves. Would have enjoyed meeting you.
  13. Oh it is WAY different texture than calf liver. tough as hell and stays on the hook the best of any bullhead bait I have used. I buy one, cut into worm sized strips and split into baggies and toss in the freezer. Works great for when they lay and nibble less aggressively. Sometimes it is tough to get the hook through it. leeches can be tough to find as big as I like. I hate those tiny little ones. Seems easier to find big ones in bait stores up by Ontario.
  14. so very sorry Eddie. Prayers you you and your family
  15. Grandpa always used to tell me that the peak was when the apple blossoms popped out. Grew up suing nightcrawlers but in recent years have switched to pigs liver and leeches.
  16. I fixed that for you. I can't be as certain as you that a kid, without the proper supervision or parental direction, knows that running from the cops isn't a good idea, will have somehow develop them at this stage and become a productive citizen. I certainly don't think it will do any good to toss him in with the hardened criminals but I don't think a reduction in sentence and little time in county for a misdemeanor, community service and probation would be a bad thing.
  17. We must have vastly different childhoods. I never committed a felony. How many did you commit?
  18. I want to make one more comment and then I am letting this go. i stick to my comment that I feel it went well. As a branch we had no illusions that there would be some great epiphany and all the ills would be cured. we had a couple goals. As I said, I was disappointed in the turnout. It was on multiple sites, outdoor news, facebook and I expected more. As a branch we will be looking into other avenues to promote the events. Same resources are used for the banquet and we may hit a new high this year at 300 attendees. We wanted to hear the DEC, have a dialogue with them and offer members and the general hunting public the chance to hear and voice their concerns. I can't get into details at this point but there may be an opportunity for further and more detailed discussion and input down the road and sitting on the outside and complaining isn't how anything in NY ever changes, all that does is raise our blood pressure and mine is high enough...lol. I am very happy with the branches efforts and I can speak for all the members when I say we are committed to trying to better things. I can't guarantee anything but we are going to try. If we fell short in some peoples eyes, I feel badly about that.
  19. where do you draw the line? what offenses get the pass?
  20. Perfect comment from last night. If you aren't seeing them locally, then don't shoot them. I know self restraint is a dirty word in our liberal state. I apologize for wasting the time of everyone here. Good luck with your efforts to change the system that I am sure you are involved in. hope it turns out well.
  21. I am sorry, You guys are right. They suck, organizations suck, our system sucks, our deer hunting sucks. Hard to believe that we take part in something that brings us such displeasure. Anyone wanna good deal on some guns and a really nice bow?
  22. What did Art say about their management on a WMU level and OUR responsibility on a local level? I didn't expect everyone that was there to be satisfied with the comments, answers and information. It was evident by some of there questions that no matter the answers they wouldn't be accepting. I din't agree with everything said but I was able to take away some useful information and I didn't see their asking for input as a negative. Isn't that what we are always saying? Why won't they listen to us?
