Would You Support a Blaze Orange Compromise?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to wildcat junkie's topic in Deer Hunting
So it is in the AD cases, were the shooter or victim in BO? or Both? or neither? seems odd and should make any difference if the victim of the AD had orange on or not and to correlate that to gun safety doesn't make sense to me since the victim may not be the shooter. I can't make heads or tails of the info for the AD numbers. -
Possible Reasons for a Bad Gun Season?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to CharlieNY's topic in Deer Hunting
- log the state land---I agree. too much mature forest and the revenue would be nice. - keep atv's off state land-- They are illegal on any state land I have been on - provide farmers incetives to allow hunters.--- I think the nuisance tags should be done away with. That would be incentive enough. -

Watch the guys that are around them all the time. They don't even turn their heads when they go off. They get desensitized to them. -

but want to use the traffic ticket analogy it would be getting a ticket for speeding while you are sitting in a car in a parking lot with the engine off. A traffic ticket is issued with the offense being observed by the officer. There is no offense to be in the woods with a loaded weapon. -

Why? there is no legal requirement to have a season open to carry a loaded firearm? I know non hunters that carry guns. Are they guilty of deer hunting out of season without a license? -

Let me ask you this. With so many legal open seasons, how would he be able to prove what you were hunting? -

Actually, yes. Just because it is hunting there is still a requirement of PROOF. A hunter could sit there until 3 am if they wished to. Is it illegal to go into your woods and target practice after sundown during the summer while the deer season is closed? by your logic it would be. Closed season with a loaded weapon after sunset. -
permit recertification
Culvercreek hunt club replied to bubba's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Since the date for recertification is January, 31st, 2018 I will be sending mine in on the 30th. Remember if you get one of these invitation letters it is NOT a requirement to do anything until that 2018 date. I say don't give them a chance to test the system and then overwhelm them at one time. The property I hunt near home is made up of 3 fields. It was all corn and the fields are right next to one another. two does cam out into one field that was completed while they were still picking in the next field over. about 300 yards. the harvesting operation didn't even bother them at all. Side note. two does got changed to one. one of my hunting partners saw them picking and immediately went into the stand.

Wouldn't bother me in the least. Again. What law section are you basing your opinion on? -

So the burden of proof is on us to prove we aren't breaking the law? Can you show me a section of the Environmental Conservation law or even NY Penal that says you can not be in the woods with a loaded weapon after sunset or before sunrise. -

First off I wear orange during gun. If I happen to be in a stand without it, my vest is wrapped around the tree I am in. But let me ask you this. If we looked up numbers over the last few years and compared injuries and fatalities from tree stands and compare it to shooting accidents and the number is higher than the shootings, should we start lobbying to ban tree stand hunting? I mean if we can just save one life, wouldn't it be worth it? -
Wow...using ***phile and sheep in the same post.....LOL

In all fairness Wildcat, There is also no evidence or proof that those accidents would have been avoided if BO had been worn. We just can't make that correlation in the past tense. -

you are wrong. There is no law requiring it be unloaded or prohibiting it from being loaded. Unless they see you shoot at an animal in a closed season (like deer after sunset or before sunrise) thee is NOTHING they can do. Especially if there are open seasons. Coyote as one example. Technically I can carry a loaded firearm on my property all year round, day and night and need no justification to do so. -

Why would the time have any bearing on when a weapon is loaded or unloaded? -
I would suggest having someone that also knows the land and the plan set out the watchers and you lead the drive. . if it is thick and you can easily get turned around or you cant see each driver, I would think the young hunters are better suited to watch than drive. Set them out with clear direction at each location about their safe lanes of fire. Young hunters tend to walk too fast and unless you set a rule that drivers don't shoot, it can be iffy were they to get ahead and cross in front or get turned around in the drive.
