How to Age a Whitetail Buck on the Hoof
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Rattler's topic in Deer Hunting
agreed but you sure can get them into a general grouping with pretty good certainty if you study and know the physical characteristics, your area and how the time of year changes how they look. Pretty easy to get fawns, yearlings, 1.5 year old, 2.5 year old and 3.5/older. And for 98% of us that is good enough. -
I found this interesting. "Data from U.S. Census reports reveal that between 1880 and 1960, married households consisting of two-parent homes were the most widespread form of African-American family structures. Although the most popular, married households decreased over this time period. Single-parent homes, on the other hand, remained relatively stable until 1960; when they rose dramatically." So even through the Jim Crow era the numbers were relatively flat. The big spike in single parent families and out of wedlock births seem to occur after that 60's. Ironically that is the period when the civil rights movement and also the subsequent affirmative action and huge social program dependence.

I was saying this yesterday and hearing them call for the public access to all disciplinary actions or complaints against the police, I suggest we take it further. Let's open it up so that ALL records of ALL employees that are publicly funded have their records available. If it is good enough to do to the police we should do it for all public employees. teachers, police, military, ELECTED OFFICIALS. Wanna bet that their tune would change with a proposal like that? We can't protect bad cops. but the assertion to disclose and defund is absurd. Talk about the inmates running the asylum. The hypocrisy of the left is amazing. It isn't true that all blacks are criminals even though a disproportionate amount of crime is committed by blacks yet you can paint all cops as corrupt and the police are plagued with "systemic racism" becasue of the actions of a few. Crappy, None of this was directed at you. I was just tagging it on here because of the union topic. You can't hold Muslims accountable for terrorist attacks becasue of the actions of a few but you can hold all gun owners accountable for firearms crime becasue of the actions of a few. It just goes on and on and on.

But lack of a family unit is not evenly occurring in all races. That isn't a dig any any of the races but it is a fact. Having two parents workign and just having one parent present are tow totally separate issues. In 2014-18, the share of families headed by single parents was 65% among African American families, 41% among Hispanic families, 24% among white families and 15% among Asian families. These numbers are national averages and are actually very much higher in urban areas. Regardless of the sample location the numbers are totally out of alignment with the population make up.

What percentage of families, white black or Hispanic have two parent households or have both birth parents still together?
-
I guess it depends on what you hold dear and put the most faith in. I certainly agree with you when i comes to race relations. I will also say the the family unit is no where near what it was back then for blacks and whites. The moral compasses of today don't even point at the same pole as they did back then. Some think that is good but some don't agree. It's all perspective.

Happy birthday Culvercreek hunt club !
Culvercreek hunt club replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Thanks a lot for the wishes all. It was a hectic birthday but was able to relax with a few great beers and test out a new present my daughter got me for the occasion. It is a sous vide cooker. She got me the Anova Precision. We went to get some steaks. At the counter that was a ribeye roast that was 4.5#. I had him cut it into 3 steaks. A very quick read on the operation manual and they we in the water and cooking. Finished them on a 600 degree grill and topped them with blue cheese and a balsamic drizzle. paired them with roasted corn, caramelized onions and bacon wrapped asparagus. The steaks we a tad over 1.5" thick. 1 hour and 40 minutes in the pot at 132 (instructions said to add a couple degrees for a fatty or heavily boned steak. They insulate a filet or strip would go in at 129-130 for my taste. easiest steak I have ever cooked and probably the best steak I have ever had. -

Happy Birthday.

If we got some of us together and a few canners running we could do a ton on a Saturday.

I bet it would be. About the only way I've found I like goose so far is in soup and making jerky. I bet canning would be good.

Larry, Where did you get the chicken? I've got the All American. I bought the 21 quart becasue I didn't want to spend the money to go up to the 30 and the 25 didn't give you any more jar capacity. It's nice having a pot like that to water bat can in as well. Things like sauce, salsa, pickles and apple sauce. No need to see waste from a garden anymore. The venison I can I typically just chunk it and freeze it until I get what I want to run a batch or two. Pint jars are perfect serving size for two people when used with things like rice and mashed potatoes. Like it right out of the can on crackers with hot mustard. I can it with garlic in most all of the, A couple hot peppers in them for zing as you like. be careful though. Seems like they get hotter in the jar...lol. I uses spices like chili powder. dried mustard little canning or kosher salt, cayenne and black pepper. I keep it pretty simple. One thing I do love to pressure can though is left over chili. Seems like I can never cut the recipe down and always end up with too much. it keeps great If you want a canning recipe book this one is great. It covers about all of it. https://bookoutlet.com/Store/Details/9780778805113B?source=ppc&ppc_campaign=u1407004000&gclid=CjwKCAjwqpP2BRBTEiwAfpiD-0kqm5sMbYH0ccxXIS6V6VCGzzkjrfQOKqn-eeh_Sc6dCciTeYdtfBoCVLoQAvD_BwE As part of our Field to Fork Culinary even we had them all prepare their own canned venison and I ran their cans for them to take home. Went over big.

it is moist and falls right apart. Makes excellent chicken wing dip...lol. this chicken runs about $3.50 a pound and up. This is cheaper and you control what's in it. https://www.target.com/p/swanson-premium-white-chunk-chicken-breast-in-water-12-5oz/-/A-14847255?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&fndsrc=tgtao&CPNG=PLA_Grocery%2BShopping&adgroup=SC_Grocery&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=c&location=9005660&ds_rl=1246978&ds_rl=1248099&gclid=CjwKCAjwqpP2BRBTEiwAfpiD-3hfgmJtABye3AsohY8-GWf_U-jDMUrX_HH9jQy0RqIt7VRmKt7t4hoCz8AQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

anyone know if they are doing the archery class as well?
-
I've been told it is comparable to the full length class if a person goes right to town on it.

A neighbor I get along with has a dog that I don't trust. I don't get out of the car on his property and do not go to their house to visit. When asked I told them it was because I didn't trust their dog. They assured me he would be fine (pit mix and has bitten one person I know of). My response was that their friendship means to much to me so it is better this way, becasue if the dog did bite me of a member of my family I would shoot as soon as I could get it in my sights even if it was in the middle of their kitchen. .

I have a willow creel. It keeps fish surprisingly cool when they are layered with grass and occasionally dipped in the crick

I had this one. Worms always got to the bottom of a container. so this one would sit top down. You rotated it over and opened the lid and all the worms were on top. The back had cut outs to feed your belt through. Loved that box. Eventually the spring broke. in this picture I found on line it is actually sitting upside down
