  1. A+ on that one Dave. They put their A$$ on the line for us and that is the least we could do. If it is an income thing for Ny then that is one license fee increase I would support and gladly pay
  2. DOes anyone know when the 2011-2012 regs come out? Don't they post them just before license sales start?
  3. When I apply for my area they ask for a second choice and I don't have a 2nd choice. How do you get 4 of them?Dave Depending on your area you can go get 2 more in the late issuing...total of 4. In my areas I go one for camp....second choice at home in 8H and got 2 more for 8H in tha later drawing. and then never had a doe within range...lol
  4. I would bet in most areas thee would be an increase in DMP's to cover the loss of the bow/ML tags and the ones that would be replacing the loss bow/ML tags would be good for the ENTIRE season....That I think would be increasing the take....and increasing it in areas that would need it.
  5. Just an observation. There isn't an area south of 5&20 (besides Binghamton) that is as populated as the I90 corridor east of Syracuse and that has been opened to rifle over the past years. I grew up down there shotgun hunting and really have not heard the horror stories that so expect if it took place out this way.
  6. Ovet teh last few days I haven't been getting notifications of topics I have been watching or commenting on...any one else?
  7. Compound for me until I can't pull and hold one. Then I will grab a crossbow....unless they start dishing out extra tags for it and that will change my mind
  8. BSA is the best program a kid could get into. I was involved heavily from age 9 until 22. Wonderful experience and our summer cam p had a range also. It was the highlight of the summer for many kids. For a lot of them it ws their only exposure to a firearm. This program is just the type of thing that the NRA should be focusing on to grow the sport....this program is justification enough for membership dues.
  9. I am one of those that typically doesn't take does with my bow. No grand holier than thou....just like bow hunting for the bucks then before they are scattered to hell and gone by the rut and gun season. If I was in the woods with a (1 buck tag to use any season and DMPs) it probably wouldn't change my position. right up to the point that I take that buck. then I am hunting for does. I am not sure how this new system differs from what is here now.....(In my area) becasue of the liberal DMPs numbers.
  10. I think it allows them to focus that tag on the doe take. I have never used my either sex tag on a doe and the antlerless one I get is used (if lucky enough) in my area. It just so happens that the area I mainly hunt with a bow is one of those that they give them away by the truckload. So if they take those two tags and make them DMPs for me they are focusing my effort on two does rather than a buck and doe. I don't see this affecting me in my areas down south but it will for my early ML hunting up north. I only get up on the weekend and I usually am able to take a doe up there. in a lottery situation I will not apply for the area becasue my season there is only two days. Do you think this means that many of the areas that have not been open to doe tags will be? 5H doesn't have tags (NZ) will they issue some if this proposal goes in to effect? If they base the take on previous harvests and I am no longer going there...does that make it more likely for the residents of the area? I can understand their desire to be able to more closely control take but I am not sure it has been totally thought out. And I am sure many of you will be asking me why I would be surprised at something being implemented by the govt with out thinking it through...lol
  11. jsut for reference guys. When dealing with Black Bears do not run. It could trigger a predatory response. don't turn your back and try to make your self look as big as possible. opening your coat and presenting a bigger image...and making as much loud noise as possible. Key is do look like easy food. They are mainly opportunity feeders and a tough meal that will take a lot of effort to get is just not worth it to them. A sow with cubs can be the worst situation. I would rather stumble across a single bear anytime rather than a sow and cubs.
  12. What I find curious on this topic is there is no restriction on the pistols that can be used in shotgun only areas. I now the ballistics of the high opowered poistols aren't what a rifle is but they have to be more than a shotgun. Say a .30-06 Contender.....even some of the more commonly used calibers. I am eagerly waiting for my paperwork to come and I wil be buying a rifle cartrige single shot pistol. I will also be using it in no rifle zones. I now the numbers of guys out there aren't what would participate in an open rifle season but it just got me thinking that is there really a difference?
  13. Hey Grow...can't tell from the pics but is the roof pitched? Are those 2x2's that you used to frame it?
  14. take a look at Advantech subflooring. It is not you average particle board and it has a great warranty. I had a supplier come giv eme a demo and put it in a 5 gallon ail of water and left it with me for 2 weeks. No change in the dimensions of the board. it never swelled or delaminated. If I recal corrctly the capacities of it were higher than pylwood. they must be using some sort of an epoxy in the making of it.
  15. the first two pics are of a bigger buck. the smal basket let me walk right up to him. there were 12 bucks in the field that night.
  16. It was pretty hot up there this weekend ...especially on the metal roof. I could get a 45 degree angled rain and the table should still be dry. I still have a couple 2x6's to put up inside of it so we can hang a deer there if it is raining/snowing and we are cutting it up.
  17. Looks great. That stuff really stays put when it first touches...huh? lol. I bet the longer strips would make for a good 2 person job.
  18. I think they are expanding in order to lengthen the gun down the road. wouldn't be past them to give with one hand and take with the other. Tsome WMU's around me a archery only because of the human population. Don't think for a minute they wouldn't let the guns go if the local laws werent there on firearms discharge. I don't think anyone can argue that the gun is a more effective weapon. it would solve some of the over population problems in these areas bu tthe possible costs would be too high.
  19. Well sonce we had the 4' long pieces left over after putting the camp up....just had to find something to do with them. Over the week I took off after Memorial day Dad and I put up the frame for a pavillion that is over the picnic table/shoting rest Thi sweekend We put the rafter, purlins and metal on it. It has a small roof on the end so the grill can go under it. No sense getting wet while cooking.
  20. You guys think this one will pop a few guard horns? a nice little basket 8
  21. I have run across guys that wouldn't hesitate to call the kid out. One note...they don't have kids whick can leave some in a very selfish state of mind
  22. It is all about choice, Geno. I close to pass....my father chooses not to. At 68....if he is happy with that 4 point I just let go by...more power to him....or any one that takes it. In theareas I hunt the hunting is great. I don't feel my decissions on how I choose to hunt should be forced on anyone else. I shouldn't be dictating their definition of a fulfilling experience. Just my view
