  1. Elmer, I have a daughter that is 15. I have had to confront two teachers during her stint in public schools for just such BS. They are being paid to teach ...not push their views. The first was a speach during a history class and they were studying the industrial revolution. The topic of unions came up and the teacher's views went way beyond any instructional value. The second was during the last election and imagine a political speech and indoctrination taking place in Earth Science.
  2. Virgil, I apologize for confusing you with Wildcat. I got lazy and did not go back to check before posting. You two have very similiar approaches to some topics. You do come across as considering the Constitution 'inept'. by definition inept would be not suitable to a time place or occassion. I think that sums up your view of it. I am not trying to rile anyone up, those were your words....not mine. You view the Constitution as a document that can be changed to morror the public attitude. I find it applicable to use different standards of logic when looking at actions of a religion vs our constitution. one is just that...actions and actions may vary in the period. the Constitution is a fundemental basis for our country and as that basis should not be modified to fill the public whim. When the public view is contrary to an aspect of your life, will you have the same stance. Even if it is something much simpler than a RIGHT. Say you suv or truck is viewed as to fuel inefficient and they feel you must give it up. Homes over 100,000 are extravagant....put an annual 10% tax on them.....single shot guns are just as effective to kill game with...remove anything multishot. Pick something dear to you and have it threatened. Make no mistake, we are a target. how actively they are going after us and how quickly is a point to debate, but no one can say we are not a target.
  3. For Black bear any good WT deer set up will work great. I would say more important would be knowing the terrain and distances you will be hunting in.....be comfortable and practiced at those ranges and have a range finder.
  4. Where are the "millions and millions" that are speaking out and condeming the actions of these few , if they believe the actions are wrong and should not continue. The majority of comments I hear are always tempered. "I don't think what they are doing is right,,,,,BUT The jews should be out of the holy land"...or what ever qualifier you wish to insert. In you comments you often compare their actions to those of other religions from long ago...the crusades and such. This is a different world now, as you are fond of mentioning in the gun control threads to justify how inept the Constitution is. Comparing the actions of a religion in current times with the actions of those of 100's of years ago does not make sense. Actions that were common and acceptabel then are far from that now. does that make them right back then....no....but it is a religion that is rooted and based in a violent nature. Just look at all the other areas of the world where the violence is taking place. Is it all of them...No...but the ones that supposedly are against such actions seem to be very quiet in any opposition.
  5. will be a great buck...he looks like he is making it through winter just fine. Keep doin what you're doin
  6. I have the walker's game ear digital muffs. I love them. they offer great protection when shooting...because of their automatic dB cut off. They also allow for easy conversation and really magnify the noises made by game. they also magnify other noises like highways and barking dogs....which can be a little annoying. the ears have individual volume adjustment and there are 4 speakers so the direction of the sounds is very easy to pin point once you get use to them. They have cut outs to allow for you head to fit against the stock of the gun .....but that too takes a little getting use to. The only fault is they take N sized batteries. they can be a bummer to find in remote areas...all Walmarts and retailers like those carry them but chances are you won't get them at a conveinence store. I get 2 full days out of a set of batteries.
  7. I guess it all boils down to what each of us believe to be and "over reaction". Form a personal point of view....my confidence in out Govt. is at an all time low.
  8. 5.9---wondering how you made out?
  9. Really? A "dire threat?" Stupid bills are put forth by the dozens, every year. Ever hear the parable about the boy who cried wolf? Yes I have heard it, but I think all of these politicians need to understand people are watching them...and I don't mean on just gun legislation. They are our rep's and if they are not doing what we want...I belive it is our duty to let them know.
  10. I was thinking the same thing...looks kinda short ...front to back...wish we could see the head more
  11. I believe it is a dire threat when an elected official has so little regard for the Constitution , he swore to uphold, would even author such a bill. It speaks to the mentality of those holding those positions. THey should start taking the gun posession of criminals more seriously and quit focusing on the law abiding owners.
  12. Virgil, What is you position on capitol punishment? Should we truely have punishments that are deterrants? It probably doesn't fit into your view of a civilized society but these criminals....whether drugs, guns, or whatever....will never slow down until the punishment severely outweighs the gain from teh crime. NO parole for violent criminals......the prisons that are to house those that will not be returned to public life should be a square box...no rec yards...no internet...no TV. No interaction with anyone at all. Never to see the light of day again. But that wouldn't be civilized in your world. In this new civilized world order you are so fond of......should the US pull back all of our aid and take care of those at home first? What is your view on illegal immigrants? And just a side note.....the majority fo the weapons used during the majority of the revolution were US made or owned by the 'rebels'. One of the advantages we had was our rifles had a much longer effective range than the typical rifle carried by the British.
  13. there are a lot of counties in the state that they have instituted it that are a lot more developed than Livingston.
  14. It is illegal to take or hunt wildlife: with any semi-automatic firearm with a capacity to hold more than 6 rounds, EXCEPT the following semi-automatic firearms: firearms using .22 or .17 caliber rimfire ammunition, or firearms altered to reduce their capacity to no more than 6 shells at one time in the magazine and chamber combined, or autoloading pistols with a barrel length of less than eight inches. [*] So an AR with a 5 shot clip is a hunting rifle under #2...so must not be an assult rifle
  15. Water fowl hunting is administered by the state but he rules and regs are set by the Fed. It is a 3 shot rule
  16. I don't think the our Rep.'s have a a great track record of getting any opinions other than their own. I heard an aweful lot of what I think are more expert than they are voice opinions against the health care bill......they didn't listen to any of them. heck most admitted to not even know what was in the bill and how it would play out. They are not above pushing bills through to suit them and their contributors (all of them...not just Dem.'s) They way they bundle bills together with so much unassociated stuff.
  17. so how does my Marlin Model 60 with a tube mag and capacityof 14 fit into your definition? or how about a lever action with a capacity of 9 or 10
  18. I KNEW IT!!! Those Boy Scouts are an extemeist para-military organization...LOL
  19. I am really confused now...lol. I read it as----is it can take a clip of higher capacity than 5 and you have two features it IS considered an assult weapon. so to recap. if my hinting rifle ...which has a screwed on aftermarket muzzlebrake....I change the stock to have a pistol grip stock....I have 2 components (screwed end capable of putting on a flash supressor and a pistol grip) and it is an external clip gun and they sell 3o round mags for it....it IS an assult weapon under ths law? right? ???
  20. I don't think is even has to be folding or collapsible if it is pistol grip
  21. so if a remington 7400 had a pistol grip stock installed and a threaded end for a thread on muzzle brake....it would be classified as such?
  22. I think 27 times in over 200 years isn't really that many...26 really because one was a repeal of another one
  23. Virgil, read what I wrote in the context of what I was resonding too. Do I think that will ever happen. I certainly hope not. But that was the context that our forefathers wrote the 2nd ammendment in. I am going to take a HUGE exception to one comment you made...and any "sane" person would. Show me a definitiion that uses personal sacrifice in the definition of freedom other than the context of sacrificing ones life for freedom. Our God given and Constitutionally protected freedoms are not to be sacrificed for anything...ever. As far as you assertion that I should be fully capable of protecting my hime with my 06 and my 12 ga...I agree....my 12 ga is my preference for that purpose...my preference...it may not be others and they should have the right to choose. If I file the appropriate paperwork and get approved...my choice may be a mac-10. The the second ammendment does not indicate they are only speaking about hunting weapons. And lets be honest here. I have seen legislation drawn up that in fact would have made my remington model 7400 in 30-06 a restriced weapon due to the external clip that I could but an extended clip for. I have friends that predator hunt with an AR...so is that a hunting rifle. Do I think every home should have a fully automatic M-16 in it...no. But I can bet my father in laws cousin wishes he had one when his boat was taken by pirates in Florida waters...of course we will never be able to ask him. When it comes to my family's safety...I will not waiver. do I want to be armed equally with an agressor coming into my house. My answer is no...you may choose to be on even ground and roll the dice with your family's lives. I am not.
  24. Just a reminder that you did man up when you took the same tact with me and apologized. It can happen ...folks get upset and especially when a topic like this is discussed. many lives were effected that day and never will be the same. jsut a little understanding...I think most of the guys are here are stand up and good people
