  1. Doc, Any physically challenged/disabled folks I know really do not want over the top special treatment. They want an opportunity to participate in life like other folks. A friend of mine from high school that I still stay in touch with has a birth defect to his left arm. It is about half the length of his right and has limited mobility. He gun hunts but can not bow hunt. I know him and in no way would he be looking for an added advantage of using a gun during archery season but he loves to hunt so much I guarantee he would bow hunt if the crossbow was legalized for HIM during archery season. I bet most with true disabilities are like that. They have no desire to be coddled but wish to be allowed to participate in as normal a fashion as possible
  2. I think that the problem is complacency and being too comfortable in what they think they know. I guarantee you that 90% of those over 50 haven't looked at a game regulation in over 10 years. Thus creating the problem by not being up on any changes in regulations, which in turn becomes a violation. I got to give you that one....I think you hit that right on the head. I am my fathers updating tool...lol I read and pass it on. I don't think he would have the opening days right if I didn't tell him.
  3. I understand what you guys are saying about the recoil. Funny how we never feel a bit of it in a hunting situation though....I think I see a lead sled in my future for my birthday this summer. The bench seems to be where I get beat up.
  4. Not to put words in your mouth but...SO your position is 20 ga. is for girls...LOL
  5. It is showing as unavailable. Are his pics restricted to friends only? How did he harvest it?
  6. I don't think knowing the difference between right and wrong is limited by age. I would have thought folks around as long as those should know better. That stat actually surprises me. Let's hope they didn't have a lot of people that they passed their approach down to.
  7. It's in splitG2 post but here's the link... http://skinnymoose.com/moosedroppings/2009/04/08/thompson-center-ceo-pro-hunter-greg-ritz-tied-to-kentucky-game-violations/ It wouldn't open anything up in his post...thanks guys
  8. I know some are going to say what else is new...lol. But I am clueless about this topic....You guys have any links that you are refering to?
  9. he said Climax manufacturing...not climax engineer
  10. and there will be lots of afordable second hand crossbows to be had
  11. I don't enter even our company big buck contest anymore. Not really for the reasons stated here but for some strange reason it is a guarantee I won't get a buck if I am in one...Karma I think
  12. Actually I have hunted State land a lot. There are several pieces I have hunted that I don't even see a hunter during bow in the woods. I just spent some tiem scouting for deer and absence of hunter sign as well. I think you are way over estimating the abuse level. Let's say all the "orange army" is a bunch of lazy no good slobs...for sake of argument. wouldn't you expect these same lazy abusers to be the driving around with the handicapped stickers in their windows. I see abuses of this...but I have yet to pull into wegmans or the mall and find all those spot filled. This is not a full inclusion bill. It must be documented permanent disability. I just don't anticipate the level of abuse you do
  13. bpb...I agree. the greenies and antis have a common goal....stop hunting. yet the various groups on our side are divided up to promote the individual flavor of the day for them. We ar enot a united front and since our numbers are heading down and we are not the majority...it is an uphill battle. Unfortunately since elections are vastly determined by the downstate population that is mainly liberal it will be very hard to get them to turn over control of a single dollar. I would love to see it and support it. I have no problem with the fees we pay...still a bargain for the enjoyment I get out of the sports..I would just prefer it went back into the continuation of that same sport...not a wefare check for some.
  14. Exactly what I am talking about. I guess the only saving grace for that person that abuses this bill/law......it isn't costing me anything...If anything we...as taxpayers pick up the $$ they pay for a stamp. The other abusers of the system cost us all every year. Not justification ...only saying the "abuse" really wouldn't be hurting anyone. And I wonder how many would really do it.
  15. The bill is written so it is a PERMANENT disability. I do wish they went further to describe what level of disability is required,. As written is states making the person unable to draw and hold the bow. Probably a lot of Dr's out there that don't hunt and would have no idea what it takes. I am sure there will be abuses just like any other aspect of the Govt. ....welfare....sicial security disability..on and on.
  16. and there is the rub, Joe. They can't...there is NO legal avenue for them.
  17. I am trying to make this trip this weekend....any updates on the amount of snow on the ground there?
  18. That really doesn't sound too bad. The rifles into Canada was no big deal the last 3 times I did it....a little paperwork and I think it was $75 bucks for the permit. When I went Caribou hunting in Northern Quebec it took us 30 hours to drive up there. Nice country but it was the longest trip of my life...lol
  19. Since we live in a mostly free market system it could be possible to say like it or lump it to the farmers and others who use the permits. The reality is the losses will be passed on....to you and me. Just like the insurance companies pass their losses on. Food prices go up....nursery stock goes up, this does one thing....makes the foreign grown food even cheaper than stuff grown here. Other countries that are in our food supply chain do not operate under our same set of rules.
  20. The nursery I filled them at spent money to enclose the entire place with a multi strand electric fence....lasted a while until the deer just jumped through it. Amazing how they figured out it didn't hurt too bad if they went fast. And the racks that I saw jump through...you would have had a hard time fitting the horns through with your hands...lol. It was a huge expense and didn't work
  21. That is a very big if...I have never seen one nest in a sapling...lol. Gotta tell you though...I do think the hawk populations are getting pretty high....I drove down the thruway a few weeks back. Near Montazuma there had to be 50 sitting on the right of way fence
  22. I'd bet someone in this state has already tried it...lol
  23. LOL. I have seen those guys...same ones opening a $9.00 pack of Cig's and saying they are strapped for cash. But i personally know people that do not have the means to travel like that to hunt....some is the money...others are family committments. There are lots of legitimate reasons. I have been luck in my economic and social freedom to pursue the sport I love........(shhhhhhh....don't let her hear this...but my wife is wonderful and never gives me a hard time going anywhere at any time)
  24. Seems safe to me Eddie----he has orange on....lol Anyone know the requirements on a Moose hunt up there? guide required or what? ...I guess not as big as the Yukon Moose but a lot bigger than any opportunity we will have for them in NY any time soon. I have always wanted to do that
