NY already has a liability protection for landowners. unless there is a hazard you nkow of that you do not disclose you are safe....unless you charge money for the priveledges to hunt there. Also...the lanowner DMP's....the ones in the regular season...I thought there were only one per parcel..50 acre minumum

It would be a cost of doing business and you would be paying anyway...lol

Dropper 10 hits the Snow!
Culvercreek hunt club replied to 33Canuck's topic in Hunting Success Stories
Fromthe pics the snow looks packy so this couldn't be the reason ...but I have had it happen in fresh powder on very cold days....the blood drops right through the snow like quick sand. You will see hair but the blood is below the surface. Happened to us twice. -
Let's get some opinons (deer eradication)

In reality the deer herd is not wiped out. it is kind of like a glas of water....take a spoon full out and it will rush back in to fill the void. granted not that fast but it will. the same items that drew the deer there before are still there. they will come back. If I were the landowner I would approach the DEC and present my case. and present it again....and again... I am a firm believer in the squeaky wheel getting the grease. They may just be able to influence the nuisence tag issuing. That won't however stop the farmer from inviting avery hunter he knows in to fill their tags. but Like Doc said...if the deer are gone so are the hunters......at least until the deer return -
Shotgun Slugs
Culvercreek hunt club replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
shooting is one thing but if the bullet isn't performing.....I would change. I ca't remember the what bullets my father had but the same issue for his 270.....poke throughs and no expansion or dammage. got him on regular old soft tipped and he has been putting them in a pile ever since. best grouping in the world is great but I like them on the ground...lol -

How old was the gun? -
if the kid was in brown carharts....a christmas reindeer hat on....with a white hanki in his back pocket there is NO excuse for this. I am sorry but if a bullet comes in contact with a human....there ought to be handcuffs and jail time involved. Thinking back as I typed this....I can't recal one time that I even shouldered my gun with out knowing it was a deer.

She wasn't that upset...I was surprised. Her comment was "at least you weren't taking it off in a bar trying to pick some chick up" God love her...she takes that view about my hunting obsession...she knows I am with family and friends...safe and being good so on topic-----I learn I have a great wife ...every season

no but it was a poaching crossbow shooter that shot out of a car using a spot light within 500' of a residence that was posted and nicked a one horn immature , 18 pound spike buck using a rage 3 illegal broadhead while it was eating on a pile of c'mere deer that infected the first one

I am glad you found it. I never found mine. I put mine in my pocket while gutting a deer...left it there while we cut them up...walking through a field to my car I reached in to pull out my watch and check how late I was getting home....popped out and I didn't notice until I got home. Metal detector and all....never found it.

Rem 700 investigation

Reeltime----I am curious about what you said. you took off the safety to unload the gun? I have 2 700's and owned 2 before those. On my guns you just lifted the bolt to unload and never touched the safety. The safety stayed engaged throughout the entire unloading process. Why would you take the safety off? -

The nursery that I spoke of in the other thread actually had a Member of the DEC come out and do a survey. That is how they arrived at the tag number that were issued. They looked at damage and went through some giration compared to the local deer herd numbers and issued 20 permits. That was at least 10 years ago and I don't know how that play into the recent cuts the DEC has had. I would like the think that there would be some consideration given to the local herd effects. I can understand the locals rage at this becasue let's face it. most farmers are using damn near every bit of their property for whatever it is they are growing. Probably little is there for bedding areas for the deer. the Deer are on the neighboring property and feeding in the farmers crops. Gotta be a tough one to swallow seeing the deer you are hunting walking across the property line to feed and being taken. That said I am NOT infavor of the government dictating what the private owner can do on their lands. It has to be in the management and issuance of the permits. how about this....little less for illegal aliens and welfare and a little more for DEC -
I took some measurements at lunch and I looked at the B&C sheet before I left....not sure if I did it right but their automatic calculator on their web site said 144 and some change. I only had my wifes sewing kit tape so who knows...lol The score I am sure about is "He looked freaking big on Saturday in the woods"...lol

No actually it was across the street from my house... I didn't get squat at camp other than a great time with my Father and friends...lol. I bow hunted at home but had yet to be there during gun. I knew he had been there on the trail cams...He has a brother I think. Looks like the same rack with maybe a small kicker but the brow tines were about 5 inches long. There was also one that is a very solid 10 and crazy tall. Never got him on camera but saw him in the spotting scope pre season. Nice thing is I know those two at lest made it to Sunday night becasue my buddy was in his treestand trying to fill a doe tag and they walked into the cut bean field at last light at about 250 yards from him. He got to glass them for a bit and they didn't appear to have broken anything that he could tell. Guess where I will be Friday, Sat and Sunday...lol

well if it is viral...does that mean it has access to the blood stream? If it is blood borne, even though the "mases" are a visible symptom that comes off, wouldn't the virus be throughout the body of the deer. I am not very versed in anything medical and my only frame of reference would be the common cold virus in humans. I just keep going back in my head when I came across bluegills in a small lake I fished back home. while filleting them there were small white wiggling worms just under the skin inbetween the flakes of meat. I called DEC and was told that "there are no known parasites in New Yorks fish that, if cooked properly, would be harmful to humans" Worms in my fish----NOPE Viruses in my deer----see above..lol
