Whats so hard about passing yearling bucks?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
My first buck was a spike...was taken with my father watching...yes it is a trophy and means more to me than my big mounts just because of that...and the horns are mounted front and center...because of their meaning....and THAT is what you guys miss in your quest for the horns you seek -
Only heard one shot that was close...so close I looked down to see if my gun went off...lol...I never say the guy that shot....still haven't...and no deer either
-
What a perfect calm cold morning....had to really sneak in...got in stand and turkeys are roosted right over me....should have but my stand umbrella up...lol almost no shooting today
-
One really nice buck and 2 doe trotting together....right through the only thick stuff I can't shoot through. Crazy shooting all morning...just not me....lol

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Lol..Steve...I guess. The majority that support their choice to pick the buck they want......and support a voluntary AR system......only make it through a few hours of opening weekend and then CHOOSE to slap a 1.5 onto their tag- 1885 replies

My daughter is a cheerleader and has had some muscle pains...they have great heat patches in all sorts of shapes and sizes ...they have a little adhesive on them....stichk them right where you want them. I know they have special shapes for the lower back shoulders and neck. I don't remember them being all that expensive. AND they stay put where you want them

I am putting 150 of 777 and the TC shockwave superglides. in a clean barrel it loads easily....2nd shot is harder and third is a struggle to seat. on the range I swap at every shot until clean. I want the shot to be as close to what my infield first shot will be. Take your time on teh range. I have had guns that did not react well to heating up. let it cool down...better more time or more trips to the range than getting frustrated. let's face it....it really is about making that first shot count, especially in ML.if you walk on teh range and the first 2 are good and then start creeping...don't sweat it...it ws a dead deer anyway.

3% difference in response in a study the say the margin of error is 2.2....this is why you get called on the carpet. It is not that I have any problem with a management plan change but the spewing of this as facts that are...or can be distorted is BS. you speak of a "majority" and conveintly leav out the numbers I list above. There are a lot of people that take a statement like you made and view them as gospel. it is not the case. Both surveys are too small to make a decission and this one even has conflicting results. The statewide response is needed. -
sammiches...and more sammiches....and some hard candy for the dray throat. coughing sucks!! and a 1/2 gallon of water in my hydration bladder (no sloshing sound while walking)

I could have used one that day....4 miles from the truck and out of ammo. was a little limited on my options

Whats so hard about passing yearling bucks?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
Haha... Majority support it in my area based on the older DEC survey and on that survey, thanks for pointing that out though. ..No was actually talking about the slide #24 that says the most important thing to 58% of the hunters was being able to choose the buck they take...where only 34% desired a mature buck with larger antlers -

Listen, buddy I rezent the anti remark. Obviously you missed my point that 1.5 year olds are immature.... the bottom line is 1.5 year olds should be protected period. If you and your hunt club dont agree than thats fine shoot em up. resent all you want...you were the one that made a comparison to humans. and that IS an Anti ploy. I am not saying you are anti...just that the argument you put forth is an emotional one and an argument used by anti's. You also stated as fact that DEC does not view 1.5's as mature. That is incorrect. what box is checked and recorded for DEC when an 1.5 is taken?...fawn or adult? and their recording for management purposes is based on that designation. Hunter....take a look at the survey posted in the other thread...you were the one claiming this overall support for AR's...seems like the conclusions on that survey don't suppport teh view you put forth. One good thing...looks like they are entertaining the idea of a statewide survey of all license holders and I would bet money on the results of that one. Same arguments are put forth by both anti's and non antis. I never said I support AR"s I do support QDM and I think AR is better than nothing. Oh yes the survey my friend Im glad you brought that up you mean the one that was sent out to 4700 hunters with only over 2000 returned. That has to be the most inacurate (and waste of money) survey ever released. I hope you are right and it does go out to the over 150,000 licence buyers the outcome will be drastically different. SQ---didin't intend the survey comment for you...was refering to The Hunter...he has been claiming wide ranging support from a survey with the same type of quantities. My point in the earlier posts was they are inaccurate and should be a much larger cross section is not state waide to license holders -
5 in the gun---9 on the butt sleeve and 10 in my back pack. i got caught one time on a track of a buddies wounded deer and ran out. I will never make the mistake again. I have too much invested in the gun to use it as a club...

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
Seems a little like apples and oranges to me. They both would be regulations (which you obviously aren't too keen on following) but one is safety and one is a managment strategy. Your view that orange would not make a difference ...can you clarify...not make a difference in being seen by a hunter...seen by a deer? A regulation is a regualtion you can break it down any way you want safety, management etc. Maybe if I was hunting public land or in a hunt club I would wear orange but the bottom line orange or no orange its the hunters responsibility to know exactly what they are shooting at most accidents are caused by shooting at movement and orange is NOT a guarantee that would have been prevented. I believe BO is more visible. and I agree with Steve, a fraction increase in safety is a good thing. I am NOT for more regulations but saying if it were passed you would not follow it is irresponsible. I wear it and I actually take the vest off once on stand and put it around the tree I am in. I also wear a BO hat at all times during gun. That orange movement is an eye catcher. My concern about those not wearing Bo is this, and this has been stated previously, you could have PERFET target identification.....have a good back stop and at 100 yards you would not pick up a camo'd hunter sitting in cover...in the background. unless you are in a treestand shooting at close range the 100% guaranteed safe shot is a myth. BO increases the likelyhood of seeing that person opposed to camo. -
What are your strategies on windy days
Culvercreek hunt club replied to damore81's topic in General Hunting
On the land I am hunting opening week ...if it gets windy I will be still hunting the sheltered slopes....hemlock bottoms and the thick pines. no standing corn around me but that move is perfect on those days
