Thank you WNY for hosting Kati and myself today. Well with just a half hour left in the regular season Kati got her very first deer using my Encore in 308. Before September she had never even shot a firearm. Now she has taken her hunter safety course, practiced at the range and spent 3-1/2 days sitting on stand. She even field dressed this deer by herself and tomorrow will be skinning and butchering it. I am so proud of her and honored to have been by her side for this. I’ll wait for her to tell the story but I will say she made a perfect shot through a very tight window at 90 yards. Just perfect.

Well this weekend is the last hoora for the last two ladies in the program. I took the one out for an all day sit last Saturday on a property that is managed for older bucks. They have to be outside the ears (they want 3-1//2 to 4-1/2 to be the bar). BUT the property is loaded with does and that was actually our target. Kati had 2 DMP in her pocket for the area and we were in the blind early. The blind is a nice big Redneck and is at the property line overlooking a couple small plots. at 720 we noticed 4 does behind us in the thicket and they came to 15 yards of the blind. SO here we sit. in the blind, deer totally unaware and they walk right into an open 4 wheeler trail. The only thing between us and them is the posted sign on the property line. We hoped they would feed into the plots but it wasn't meant to be. Around noon we took a quick warm up walk around the area and it was loaded with tracks. One of the largest hoof prints I have ever seen actually crossed our entry trail 4 times working the side hill back and forth. Just not low enough for us to see it. We got back in the stand and at 330 we noticed a deer crossing a wheeler path and headed towards the plot. Kati got settled in and got the rifle up. It walked into the plot at 80 yards and I had my bino's on it. She said she was on target and I could see her barrel was rock steady. Then the deer turned it's head and looked at us and it was a spike with a small eye guard. I could hear her sigh. Very disheartening but both were a good lesson. Gotta play by the rules This weekend I am taking Amy out on an afternoon hunt on Saturday and Kati is wanting to go for another all day sit on Sunday. Keep your fingers crossed for these ladies. They have really been putting in the effort and I want to make this happen for them.

How do you figure out who is the best deer hunter ?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
BS....this is -
Hope you get it figured out Dan. I'll be keeping you in my prayers.

I've also found that whatever weight rod you start with (very good suggestions above) you can learn your casting a bit easier if the line is one weight over your rod weight. Tends to load your rod a little easier and let you feel the cast timing better. IMO

Would you support an early MZ season?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Five Seasons's topic in Deer Hunting
I could see them doing it(and they have discussed it) to aid in deer number reduction in problem areas. I have mixed emotions. I do hunt the early ML in the northern zone and enjoy it. -
Girl I dated in High school's father was a dairy Farmer. Sweetcorn was always rows 2, 3 and 9, 10

Looks like a bunch of Ag land up by Jordan Pond East of Albany Post Road too

We've discussed it on here before and I remember it being that way too. I believe it has been done away with.

Luna and Kunox's Tracking Journal 2018

Not gonna hijack such a great thread but I about faint at the number of folks I see do stuff like carrying FMJ rounds becasue of the good deal they got on them. This is by far my favorite thread on the site. Thanks for what you do. -
I like that unless you are in an area where you can't get cell service.

Are we now going to have to ask to see their itinerary for the last several days and where they were eating before we can shoot them? We could be playing right by the book and a couple neighbors over has a pile or just some old lady that likes to feed them in her back yard. Corn in the guts is evidence of only one thing. The deer ate corn....lol

Get Natalie a 7mm-08 and we can load reduced recoil rounds that will be pussycats until she gets her confidence up.
-
To me the 243 would be redundant since you have the 7mm-08. What I don't see in the line up is a good learning rifle like a very nice 22

Does that don't get bred during their first cycle come in to heat again 28 days later
-
The meat yield on them is no where close to a deer is it? I've always said I can get more meat from a 130# field dressed deer than a 200# field dressed bear.
-
I see they are selling that rear portion as a stabilizer and meant to wrap your forearm and not be shouldered. Seems like not much benefit for what it could cost if in the sight of the wrong LEO.

sure looks like a SBR to me and may need additional paperwork

Need Simple Grilled Back Strap Marinade
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
If he would like to try a rub on the backstrap instead or a marinade an equal part of Montreal steak seasoning and brown sugar. Pulverize in blender and rub on the meat. wrap tightly in plastic wrap over night and grill as normal. (great on bear and ribs as well)
