  1. As soon as the FoxPro comes back from a warranty repair I'll be after em hard !! Looking for anybody willing to share the fields in the Erie county area. After my move I haven't had much time to scout and knock on doors. If you want, I'll run lights and call, you shoot ! I've got the gear and a few dogs under my belt. Not a pro but have spent countless hours chasing these critters. Good luck to those after em !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  2. If you can find a used 1100 or similar autoloading 20ga, it will be the perfect gun. And if she stays active in hunting it can end up being a turkey and deer gun too. Or, if you wanna drop some serious dollars the Remington versamax or V3 in 12ga are as light on the shoulder as a .22. Versaport gas system is amazing technology. Don't believe me, shoot one! 3. Ur good to go. But, you MUST do headshots. Even a vitals shot with a .22 could have you tracking for a loooooong time. Most .22 are accurate, so if your scoped and confident go for it. This is just like the .243 Vs deer topic. It's legal and if headshot I think ethical for a clean quick kill. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  4. How we roll at the treeguy house... very difficult to find branches strong enough though ! Theres an easy 400" of antler in there Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  5. There's no doubt we can grow some giants in the empire state. We have the ability with the ag and cover. What I think is the issue is why "we" don't see them.... Well, nevermind ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  6. Where's your "area" Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  7. Getting a dog on the ground is worth the investment, and upsetting the wife.... Take it from me I'm experienced in all those aspects. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  8. Well this thread sure slowed down recently !! Good luck to those out there today.... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  9. I was torn between Lu-Ku or lun-kun ( loon-coon). Please, feel free to use either one, lol Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  10. Well, my path was gone.... Drifted over. Thought I'd have it easy from here on out. Ah well, face is windburned.... On walk out I was able to catch a few slick heads coming out to the field. Now I know where they are ! Will be back at it Thursday. I may even have some company join me (hint, hint). In reality though, a friend of mine is in a tough situation and if I can help by offering a 1hr hunt close to his house, I'll be satisfied. He's got a daughter that hunts, and I think that's awesome... Hoping I could be a part of a memory for them. We will see Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  11. You primative guys should be out there with nothing but a buckskin coat.... Keep it real ! Hiked through 2' yesterday and sat the last hour...no movement but some fresh tracks. Gonna do evenings from here on out. Glad I broke a trail though as we keep getting inches everyday and that's a heck of a hike with the stay warm gear on. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  12. 30 recovery's for the dream team aka team Lu-Ku, Nice job !! Enjoy your getaway !! Happy holidays to you and the pups Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  13. No virgins for that dumbass.... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  14. Even the hind quarters won't "spray" blood. It's all muscle back there where there's white. There's a main artery down the leg but not with white hair. I believe rump also has a bend on the white hair ... I'll have to look Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  15. No way to get lungs and white hair from ground.... Only other possibility is if it was greyish hairs from armpit/ inside shoulder but still doubtful of a lung hit. Did you look for a broken rib ? Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  16. Couple questions......What angle was deer, what distance, treestand height, type of gun/slug..... We will really CSI this deer !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  17. Goodness. We got a foot in a couple hours !!! Dad scored a flat top on the walk in... Let it lay and got in the stand. Now I'm headed to do a retrieval..in the Kubota ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  18. Really coming down in 9f...I'd guess over an 1"/hr. Visibility from the couch is about 50yrds. Heck yea I'm going out !! Why not !?! This snow is gonna save alot of deer lives Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  19. Now if your mad, buy a FoxPro and get after them dogs !!!! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  20. Well, you can't be certain she died from your shot, in fact I doubt she did. But, if you open up the guts them stinking dogs can smell that from miles away.... Either way, I think you 100% did the right thing. Your only other option in a heavy yote area is to call in a recovery dog so you can get right on her and hopefully put another one in her. Most dog guys will come out for gut shots as I hear it's a nice job for the dogs. Point is, I think you did the right thing. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  21. Correction.... WE, as in you and I, need to go down there next year !!! Awesome deer ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  22. So what's the report ? I agree with previous. If you open up the belly you will not get much blood. Also, the long straight hairs means you prob hit her center of the body, but low. The further back you go on the body / gut the hair is much shorter. If you graze center mass, low it's prob not gonna drop guts out (depending on the hit). It's the final hours here, so if you have a buddy set him up on an exit route and get into the thick stuff you saw her go into. She may be dead, she may be bedded, she may get up and give you a shot. Either way, a track session is never a bad way to end the gun season. Worth a shot ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  23. Scenario.... Let's say I'm right, and they have you patterned. One morning comes and you don't show up at dark.... no white light, no red light, no car door slam. They stay calm...they decide, hey we can browse around now since no predator came this am ! Let's cruise around !!! Then, you are able to slip in, daylight, you can see deer if they are there and potentially get a shot,OR you can slip in your stand and the deer are gonna do the "non threated" thing of slow browse around your property.... At this point they have one job to stay alive, watch your entry point before first light.... I don't claim to be an expert on deer, but I do try my best to keep an open mind and learn from every hunt. This scenario has happened to me multiple times and I DID NOT score till I changed my pattern. Again, anybody can tell you that big bucks go nocturnal once season starts.... Do you know why !?! Hunters. They catch scents, they get bumped, trucks parked in the field etc. These deer go into the phase once the pressure is put on. The smarter the deer, the sooner they change their summer patterns. That's how they live to be giants. Next time you enter the woods, think about how you would go about your hunt as if your life depended on it.... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  24. I'd still say go in an hour past your normal time. Besides, with the cold coming in they will be moving and browsing most of the day. It's not like your losing out on the "best" times. I promise you, going outside the norm will increase your odds. Seriously, the deer know that their life may depend on it. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  25. I have seen this happen too many times to count. Let's first off look at one fact, deer learning YOUR pattern happens, cause their life depends on it. If they have a core area where they bed, feed, browse etc and they keep seeing "you" come in, they learn to move closer to the area they first spot you. They may have made that an early am bedding area or browse area as they know you will show up,then they get out of Dodge. The only advise I could give (if you want it) is change your entry--but--you say there's no other way in, so the only other thing you can do is go in once sun is up. Maybe give it an hour past legal.... You have been patterned. The only way to get em now is change your pattern. This happened to me with a buck I hunted for 3, yes 3 painful years. I had his pattern down. I knew where he bedded for the am and for the pm. What I didn't take into account is he could see me enter my stand and HE played the wind for the day, bedding on the down wind side of my trail. Finally, after being stubborn and set in my entry ( nicely cut trail ) I took the road and walked about a half mile up to the neighbors and basically came in the back door to my stand. My normal trail walk was prob 200yrds. I killed that buck the second sit after changing my pattern. He was 6.5. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
