  1. Been debating a choice I have opening morning. My camp is full with the usual people up there. I gave up my "Honey hole" stand in Death valley to my niece opening morning. She is looking for her first buck and I thought the gesture would be nice. Before I owned the camp I hunted with my brother in law at his place for 25 years. About an hour away in Schylur county. Some great memories and big deer shot. I'm toying with the idea to head over there Friday night after dinner to hunt with him opening morning. He has been hunting by himself for the last couple of years. Still undecided on the situation. If I find out he has someone with him I'll probably stay then. Just don't know what to do………still have week to decide though!
  2. I have the same deal at my camp. My neighbor is like a brother to me. He does all those things for me that you talked about. Best part is he is up there full time watching over the place. Take it one step at a time to feel each other out. Sounds like it will be a good relationship!
  3. So the doe that My brothers son in law shot had apples in the stomach. We noticed that they looked nicely sliced like someone did it with a knife. I would think a deer would chew an apple and swallow. If someone was baiting with apple slices and they were small enough for the deer to just swallow could this be the case?
  4. I've gone through it all. Best way to shoot a deer with the bow when it all happens in a matter of seconds. No time to think about anything. At the age of 53 I'm finding my eyes are starting to be a problem. I have glasses for distance. There are progressives and I really don't like them in the stand. Don't move your head but stain your eyes the edge of the lens is blurry. I'm thinking about laser surgery very soon.
  5. So I was only up for 1.5 days. My brother and his son in law were that for an extra day. The place looked great and there was a ton of scrapes on the property. In the past my group has been busted on for not being able to shoot that great with the bow and I agree…….this weekend was different when two of us connected with first archery tackle deer. Im proud of my brother and his son in law for making it happen. I came across a non typical 8 at 20 yards but didn't take a shot, just wasn't right. Her are some picts from the weekend. IMG_0907.3gp
  6. Hell of a rain storm last night. look for the crows when searching they will be on him quick.
  7. Some big deer taken this year on LI. Hope your guy is one of them!
  8. Finally going to get up to the cabin Monday-Wednesday of next week to bow hunt. My brother and his son in law will be up on Sunday. My neighbor has been seeing a ton of bucks this year, the most he has ever seen. My brother stopped in last week to mow the lawn. He took a walk around the property and said it was loaded with scrapes. Maybe this is our year with the bow! We got two doe permits for the 4 of us. Good luck all.
  9. 8P you usually see deer every hunt. Yes we are spoiled but so are the deer with all the Ag fields!

  11. It depends if it was chopped or shelled. If you see a lot of spillage in the field the animals will hit it hard until it is turned over. Great place to geese hunt also.
  12. Mom kicks out fawn cause she is ready. Some go early some go late.
  13. Fletch good luck. These moments in life that mean the most to us come and go so fast. Enjoy every moment with your son afield. He is going to turn out to be a great hunter just like you!
  14. Most important be safe. Use your safety harness and make sure your stand is in top shape. I haven't been to my place in a month and I know some stands were not checked. These will not be hunted until they are inspected in daylight hours. Nothing like being out there fist day!
