  1. Funny I just had to close up a hole in the eve of the cabin. Out came two bats Friday night as we sat by the camp fire. Small opening where two boards meet. Of course it was at the top of the peak and was difficult to fix. Got it done, hopefully they are gone. What do bats do in the winter time? Do they still stay in the area they were in all summer??
  2. I play the Guitar. My 8 year old will start playing the violin this year.
  3. If you look at the pictures out in the field I am sitting next to the telephone pole. (part 2)The deer bust me a few time but always come back. That cam was put up in the afternoon and I was there for a while, so much for scent control, lol.
  4. Thanks Doc. Yea the trip is fun and full of anticipation. One day my camp will be my home and I too will miss the trips.
  5. Nice picts find them during season, then give me a call.
  6. Going up Sunday morning and can't wait. Brother was up last week and saw 3 nice 8 pts enter our field. Want to move a trail cam over to the spot. Have to hang a gutter off the new addition and put in a screen door. Thats all the work I have for a week. looks like it may be cool a couple of days, that will be nice! Going to shoot the bow every day for sure! I'll post some picts when I get back.
  7. Well said Joe. When I as young I was fascinated with the outdoors and the Whitetail became a focal point. I just wanted to learn as much as I could about them. Harvesting one of these animals was icing on the cake. To this day I still get a kick out of watching a doe and her yearlings hanging around my tree stand. At times it is more entertaining than a nice buck that slips by in a few seconds. They are pretty amazing animals. My limit is two deer a year. We use all the meat, nothing goes to waste.
  8. If the deer were in good shape and I thought they could make it through the winter I would let them go. They are usually totally stressed. Do it as quick as possible and hope they make it.
  9. I thought about the 1 buck rule. What a bout the total experience of being in the woods all season long. The guy who doesn't get a doe permit is done hunting once he shoots his buck. The money he won't spend the rest of the season??? This may sway these hunter who have tagged out to get kids involved. They will have more time on their hands and want to get back in the woods. It may also drive up hunters using other peoples tags. Sure can see that happening. It wouldn't be a bad place to start but I don't see NY doing this.
  10. Well said Steve. We have more and more bear on my property every year. Do I want to shoot one, I don't know? They are getting a little close for comfort which may sway my thinking.
  11. So in essence we want equality in the first breeding cycle so all does get bred. Cuts down on the 2nd rut, helping those deer regain strength to make it through the winter. Does will drop their fawns at the correct time of year. Factors that come into play-early rut, late spring snowfall, age class of bucks being killed during season and DMP's. I'm starting to understand what your saying Joe:) The health of the herd.........
  12. Joe, Just taking in all this info. A yearling buck is a 1.5 year old? If so these bucks with AR's in place get a pass. I just don't see how age structure keeps these bucks from cruising around chasing does and sparring with each other. I see it all the time small buck chasing does and the big boy follows behind and takes over when the time is right. You say the biggest plus in age structure is that these yearlings get to put on body weight so they can make it through the winter. Respectively I just don't see it. Those 1.5 year old deer are still involved in the breeding season. What age group do you want breeding does? Is it your 2.5-4.5 year old deer? Good info just trying to wrap my head around it.
  13. Wow surprised the dog lived. Friend found a Pitbull in the same predicament last year. Vet couldn't save the dog. Quills went through the eyes.
  14. I guess anything is possible. Try to get a picture, that would be cool. I did a lot of hunting in Roscoe, I like the name.
  15. Bear spray on my person at all times. No firearms but that may change.
  16. I have and she didn't care a bit. Content on eating corn and watching her two cubs. I was 30 yards from one of the cubs and she just kept on eating.
