This is where this whole topic may go askew. Salvage recovery who cares it was found. We all like the perfect shot but sometimes that don't happen. Finding you deer, putting closure to the story matters.

I shot a big deer in the liver a few years ago. He acted as if it didn't hit him. He bedded down a 100 yards from me and I bumped him on the blood trail. Took another 7 hours to find him after a 5 hour wait. Only found him because the crows were pecking at the wound and making a racket. Look to the skies when all else fails LIbowhunter.

No way and if a DEC officer gave you a fine I would fight it all the way. I talked to an officer once about bear hunting. My question to him was if a bear came by solo and I shot it but 5 minutes later here comes a cub could I get charged with a crime.(this actually happened but I did not shoot the sow) He said it would be very hard to make something like that stick. So hunting near a gut pile = baiting a bear, no way. Sometimes we think to much about these scenarios. I like eating apples on stand and throw the core to the ground am I baiting? lol

Anyone got 50 jars just like that one? I know where to put them.

My stand is a place to unwind and let my mind drift. I hate getting texted but will answer especially if it's someone in our party. I just love the sounds of the woods and the peacefulness, that is until you hear twang or bang!

Driving to camp last Friday it was in the 70's and at three different times we saw deer hitting the fields. This was all around 2 in the afternoon.

Unfortunately the worst shot I ever saw was a head shot on a great buck. This was the only shot the hunter could make, shot the lower jaw and half top jaw completely off. tracked the deer after the shot and got him. He actually took pictures and showed them off, I looked at him and said it was gross and walked away.

Let's see your work! I would love to try it.

This weekend we had them yapping in the middle of the day. One ran past us in the woods in the afternoon. Too many for me in 8P.

Thanks guys!

Found some small rubs and a few scrapes this weekend.

Hey guys, just got back from camp. Thought more would be done on the addition by now but I was promised it would be complete in two weeks. My brother and I ran the electric in the room and basement so that is done. It was a great weekend and we almost got a bear!!! We ran out to get more wire Friday night around 8. We pulled out of the driveway and 50 yards down the road a bear runs out in front of the truck. We miss him by inches and he does a header into the woods tumbling the whole way. It was unreal, looked like a two year old not very big 125-150 lbs. Saw a few deer couple of rubs and scrapes, nothing real big. Enjoy the pictures, now I have a front and back porch!!

Will do, thought it would be done by now but no big deal. If he finishes up in the next couple of weeks that would be fine. Looks to be a warm weekend, glad its not two weeks from now!

He singing opera to his girl friends! Great picts John. -
Headed up this weekend, leaving tomorrow. I have a wedding in Montour falls on Saturday but will be working on the cabin the rest of the time. Builder said we would be nearing completion in the next few weeks. We are going to wire and insulate the place this weekend. I have some cell phone picks but there not that great. Will take some picts this weekend with my good camera.

Thgis is cool! It just goes to show ya that the experts aren't always right. I can remember watching hunting shows years back and the guys taking spikes out of the herd. They said a spike will always be a spike, wrong! Thanks for posting.

Nothing wrong with what he did, I would of done the same.

What's going on now is that you have to pay extra for the mineral rights! If your in the shale play area you still get the same price for the land, oh by the way if you want the mineral right it's another $50,000. I truly believe that come 5-10 years from now upstate will not look the same. Read the article in ODN this week about Pennsylvania, you'll see. Geno if you buy a piece without the mineral rights make sure that you have a clause in the deed that states no drilling within a certain distance from your home and no gas storage on the property. Have piece of mind if you don't have the mineral rights.

Do you or don't you have Columbus Day off from work?
First-light replied to RangerClay's topic in General Chit Chat
First time in years we have off. Only because we were short this year on another Holiday so they owed us 1 day. -
He actually looks older in the B/W picture. Yea pictures can be deceiving. The only thing I would add is I have seen so many 1.5 year old bucks with the same type of horns. You know there is a bear thread on the site that tells you the DEC aged the bear at 8.5 years old. It was only 200 lbs and looks real small in the picts. What more proof do you need, the DEC aged it. Anything is possible-thanks for posting.

Doe, Please remember to flush or was that Steve?

Just got a text from him. He said he saw three doe this morning and two doe tonight. That is pretty good for the area. I told him it will only get better as the rut moves into full swing later this month. You know those bucks will be chasing those doe soon! I'm happy for him.
