Gets ticketed then they give him a ticket for driving with out a license lol, shoulda stopped while he still had the chance. As for the deer, that thing is a monster for only a 2 yo

There is a thread on moon phases that gives the most "opportune" time to sit. I see more in the evening during bow and more in the morning during gun but every piece of land is different.

Great buck! You're gonna be hooked on bow season now!

I passed on a doe yesterday at full draw when I saw the lil one just stick its head out of the brush. I feel some compassion for the doe/fawn. If the doe was by itself fine by me, we have evolved enough at this point where we don't need every deer we see to feed ourselves, but that's my opinion. If your land is overrun with doe like WNY then I can see where it's gotta be controlled and not wash the gene pool.

Sat all day from 645-7 yesterday, doe in the am and a Doe at 620 that I drew back on but she had a lil one following so I let it go (bad jiu jiu) they bedded 20 yards from my stand and didn't move until 650. Work today back at it this afternoon

Nice buck!

Congrats! Back straps for dinner!

Had a Doe across the creek around 9 but no shot. Buddy of mine had an 8 come through at 815 but spooked when he pulled up on him. Cup of coffee and I'm headed back out.

Been up since 3 in anticipation. Weird thing though is an owl is what woke me up, which never happens. Maybe I'll get another buck this year, an owl flew in right before I shot my deer last year. Good luck all, hopefully the wind stays a bit calmer than the forecast.

I saw a video last night on Youtube while hanging with the boys drinking some beer of a 110 yard shot a guy took at a doe. The doe dropped instantly and the guy had is 6-8 y.o. son with him and was saying some day you can make that shot too, kinda pissed me off. Why teach an unethical shot that would probably fail 90% of the time, IDK maybe I was brought up old school with the mentality of 20-30 yard shot max but shoot to bring them in to 10.

That's awesome, great pic!

I agree with Greene, tons of jobs in the capital district. When I moved back from Manhattan I moved to Saratoga. Similar lifestyle and small town feel where you can drive 10 minutes and find tons of farm land. I eventually moved back to Delmar after I grew tired of the commute from Saratoga to Delmar everyday.

Welcome WPNY! When you take your hunter safety course be sure to use the knowledge at hand from the instructors. I hunted with mine for the first couple rabbit seasons (he has beagles and I don't). #5 shot is good for rabbits it penetrates through the stubborn brush they like to hide in. Good luck!

I have never thought of the milkweed, thanks for the tip. I always used tissue paper, served as a double purpose wind and helping with blood trails.

Found out who is stealing my corn stalks.... Caught em!

That's awesome! -
BTW the cover scent was the "dirt scent"

I have been playing around with different scents this year with the trail camera. I tried vanilla extract, didn't do much. I sprayed my cover scents by a camera, actually stopped and smelled the ground. I sprayed some doe urine a few stops, haven't tried buck urine yet. I did spray some buck bomb on a frequently used camera trail and its been completely avoided by all the does and even the one pickled fork buck that would normally stop by. I wouldn't try any scents until they are in full chase personally. I have read a few threads about orbital gland and scrapes that looks tempting to buy some if you are interested in seeing some more action around the stand.

I was reading an article in D&DH about the hunters moon on Sept 21, some say its the start of Does going into estrous. According to the article 10 days later they are supposed to start chasing and early rut. Interesting article but still think most of the action will be late Oct- Early Nov. Any buddy else have thoughts on this? Thanks for the link to the moon phases.

As a culinary grad I'd like to share my two cents. Typically charcoal is harder to start off with and requires more attention but usually with the extra attention you don't over cook it so it ends up being juicy. I have a weber that I cook smaller cuts of meat in. Now, I also own a cookshack electric smoker. I use this for big cuts of meat because I can set the temp and come back in 10 hours because I never have to worry about the electric burner going out. I use saw dust instead of chips, more surface area and gives a bit more smoke but thats a personal preference. The weber is cheaper initial investment and gives a great flavor but if you are ready to do larger cuts time to invest in a cookshack cabinet.

Any news on these boars this year? I saw a news story about a loose pig on the northway (87-n) by Malta a week ago but they didn't say if it was a wild pig or a farm pig.

If you look at the streams they literally have a white/brown foam that must be bacteria. If you ever go to a sewer plant you will see that they aerate their sh*t water in order to get it to break down and it looks exactly the same, so I am sure it doesn't take long to kill the fish in these creeks/ streams from bacteria.

I thought at one point the farmers were required to turn the manure within 2 days? The stench alone can chase you from a tree stand for a week or two. Keep me posted Growalot on the outcome of your water tests. I have been trying to fight it for years over concerns. Every time they spread everyone gets some type of cold/ sick.

The bees are ruthless this year, tried burning a ground nest with gas and they got me twice before I got the fire going. Think I'll stick to trying some of that Beer can chicken you guys are talking about, just saw a commercial with Guinness Beer Can Chicken... HMMMMMMMMM
