    Corn Fields

Just out of curiosity, when do the farmers tend to cut corn by you? I hunt a little south of Albany and they are already cutting this year. Also, anyone ever have concerns of E. Coli when the farmers spread liquid manure after they cut?
  2. Last years rut was a bit later around here but I got a nice small basket 6 on Nov 6, so hopefully it holds true. I have some time in early October so I am hoping for a little earlier action.
  3. You will be learning how expensive arrows are and/or how to fletch if you keep shooting so many at a time.
  4. What a monster, makes me think with all of the growth from last year if that will be typical for the rest of the deer in the state with the mild winter.
  5. Nice bucks! Sure makes the days to opening day seem a lot longer.....
  6. Is this the result of our PCB contaminated Hudson or maybe just some bad genetics?
  7. Usually the larger scrapes are made as a community scrape. It is still very early for exact locations as they are just starting to break up from the heard and the bucks are just starting to rub their velvet off. Your best bet in this circumstance is to follow the advice of some of the other guys and look to see if there are any rub lines, even from last year in the area. If he ran this area last year he may still use the same rub line. There is a huge difference between what you see now and what you will see in a month/ month and a half. Deer still hit my apple trees in my front yard now, but disappear in October. As for a pinch point, that is where a funnel comes together or where a trail goes down a hill/ creek crossing anywhere that the deer frequently use because they have no other way around. I usually hit the swamps/marsh during gun and edges of corn fields while the corn is still standing. Just my two cents, hope it helps. Or you can always try a trail cam and see when they are moving.
  8. Great pictures, that 'yote has great color! Keep the good pics coming in! Thanks for sharing.
  9. I saw 2 scrapes with broken branches over the weekend. I also spotted my first rub today as I was trimming a new trail. The cooler days must be helping...
  10. Well finally some action, had some time to burn before work so took a quick walk into my stand to check my camera, well and to hopefully see something. I did, a nice 8 about 80 yrds out. I bumped him as I was walking around the corner and he bounded off. I turn and there is a doe 10 yards behind me on the otherside of the creek, staring at me, she turned and ran back towards their bedding. Excited again and will be back in later. Sorry for the long post but finally some action!
  11. Congrats to your bro-in-law, my father hunts only with his 357 and has for the last 10 years..
  12. Ugh, frustration sums up my whole season. I trimmed up a new path to my old stand, went home to change and to grab a quick bite. Well, upon my arrival back at my stand I see fresh foot prints in my boot prints and a freaking brand new rub under my stand!! Wtf!
  13. Took the day off, heard reports of shooting around the stand today. It is what it is, so burnt out of over a 100 hrs in the stand since open, tomorrow I'll hit it up again
  14. Tell him congrats! That was my first deer as well, been hooked ever since.
  15. In an old stand by some hardwoods and pines on the other side, always as been productive for the second weekend. Two fresh scrapes by the pines, c'mon Bucky
  16. Hahaha well I'm sure all the deer are gone after my laughing of that post, back in the stand.... Saw way too much action not to keep sitting in it, looks like the deer had a barn dance last night.
  17. Damn, woke up late.. Probaly gonna walk a little and sit on the ground today, jinxed myself yesterday so today I hope Pat gets his after 9
  18. Jinxed, atleast I'll still eat like a king today
  19. In the stand early, beautiful morning... Already saw two shooting stars, maybe it's my lucky day
  20. Bigfish where in the cap region? We hunt south in Bethlehem on a farm
  21. Saw an 8 and a 4 chasing a doe around 330 @ 200 yards out across a field, couple of guys in my hunting party gave them a stalk and took a shot. The 4 and 8 didn't even care they were walking in the field with them, they were so hot on this doe.... Needless to say buck fever kicked on and he shot low and put the slug into the tree, tomorrow is another day
  22. Hahaha! That's awesome, I've been thinking about doing the same thing lately. Just hope you didn't waste a broad head on him....
  23. I co-own a family electrical contracting business, been around since 1959. It sure helps during hunting season, can get the guys out of the shop or scheduled for the next day and get a couple hours in each morning in the woods. Live and hunt in the capital region.
  24. Looks like bite marks, it's common for coyotes and other predatory animals to draw attention to the front of the animal while another attacks the rear. This post gives me plenty of incentive to do some hardcore coyote hunting this winter.
