  1. Anyone that knows me and what I think about overpowered firearms will know that I am on the side of using little to accomplish a lot, and shot placement above all else. I often find it excessive the type of calibers some hunters use for deer and predators. But even with that mentality, I can't see this round taking a humane body shot at a yote for the purpose of recovery. I'd be surprised if this round would be reliably accurate out to 250 yards.
  2. And Sid, I felt the same way as you when I first started. Tons of squirrels in these NYC parks and unlimited pigeons. I would have never thought the forest is void of these things and how hard it is to get a glimpse at these abundant critters. Same with the deer, tons of them when I camp and more when I fish, but as soon as you carry a gun or bow, they're gone! I try to post up when I hit up places like Stewart or Sterling, as they are big enough to not cause any spot burning. Running into hunters at these places are a common occurrence, and I always enjoy chit chatting with other hunters and anglers. You're welcome to join when we do have our squirrel hunts there.
  3. I honestly don't see much difference between this super round vs the .17 HMR. Neither one I'd take a body shot on a yote. Both rounds can and will kill a yote, but both will end up with an unrecovered and slow death animal if shot in the body.
  4. So you'd consider taking a yote with a chest shot with this round?
  5. Stewart is my place to go for some small game, but I wouldn't want to go there for big game. Try your hand at Sterling or some less pressured areas around 3M.
  6. You mean a .223 in rimfire? I'm glad this round didn't surpass the kill power of the .223, because if it did, game laws may have to be revised to ban the .223 from big game.
  7. More powder, more speed. I was surprised that they increased the weight of the bullets though. It's nothing more than a glorified .17 HMR, nothing to really rave about IMO. My opinion is that those that already have a 17 HMR won't be running to get this round, and those that don't have one already may not be looking to pick one up with so little improvement.
  8. Clamping down is probably not realistic advice for an airgun, as you'll have to pump it, or break the barrel to charge it up. Unless it's a CO2 gun or a PCP, clamping usually is not an option.
  9. Lol at this bore sighting and laser sighting business. Start at 5 yards and get it about 1" below POA. Depending on power of this airgun and the height of the scope, you may be zero at around 15-20 yards.
  10. I think only 3S does not allow rifles for hunting small game.
  11. Good luck Mike, a few of us city folk here so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
  12. Word has it that they are in areas that does not allow hunting.
  13. Deer, squirrel, don't know. In that order. Why would someone leave unfired rounds laying on the ground?
  14. Wooly, invite a friend and you both can carry one each. I have a hand axe and a couple machetes. I'd bring a machete over the heavier axe for a hike and the axe for a camping trip.
  15. It's his choice to report his taxes or not and face the consequences. Lighten up Virgil.
  16. DW, going to play devil's advocate here, nothing personal. It may also be possible that certain individuals in power has put the word out to be hush hush about the details and drag out the investigation. The purpose? Strike while the iron is hot. I sure hope this isn't the case here.
  17. Not sure why squirrel hunting is always 44 days, but this thread is great! I have some business up by Stewart Friday, so I'll be heading up there and hopefully do a little hunting in the area. I'll be bringing the Marauder and hopefully run into some squirrels and such. If anyone is in the area, feel free to give me a PM and we could meet up. Now that deer season is over for most of NY, it's time to get back to small game and scouting for next season.
  18. Probably going to get some heat for this, but I think giving $ as a gift to buy a gun, is much better than buying the gun in your name and giving it to someone else.
  19. I can understand if the bullet was designed to be highly fragmental, but often is not the case with 30-06, and the fact that the slug was recovered. Sounds to me the round had a lack of power behind it for some reason.
  20. That's some cheap trees... And free shipping? Wow!
  21. Lol, luckily that's not the issue for me, but the distance is :T
  22. Looks a couple days old. I suppose that finger won't be doing much, fingering anytime soon.
