  1. Look into public land first, like state forests, multiple use areas, etc. Hunting small game with a rifle is allowed in most counties after deer season.
  2. Doewacker, do you deny that there is a lot of contradicting information out there? It may be clear to you, maybe because that's what you are ready to accept. For many in this thread, I find that there's a valid reason to ask this question, but you seem to think ill of those folks who question the authenticity of the so called facts. IMHO, I feel you may be overreacting to a valid question. I know this tragedy and the aftermath of how it will change how the USA will regulate firearms has weighed heavily on all our minds, but let's try to be civil and objective.
  3. Won't all this haunting and lack of sleep just breed more unstable individuals that will continue this type of tragedies?
  4. The .25 cal Mrod has an action large enough to chamber the extra long Predator Polymags, and the magazine fits them too. There's also a single tray loader for the Mrod that would allow loading of one pellet at a time. I don't know the dimensions, but I believe fitting a cast bullet should be no problem.
  5. I've shot both the 17 HMR and the 22 WMR, 17 HMR is a superior round past 125 yards. I've shot the 17 at 100 and 200 yards from a bench, and found the accuracy to be acceptable even with 5-10 mph winds. Same at 200 yards, with a 4 inch drop in POI. Very acceptable accuracy. With the 22 WMR, accuracy was not as tight as the 17 at 100 yards and was very bullet picky. Picked out 2 o the 7 bullet types that performed decent, and tried it at 200 yards. Big mistake. The 22 WMR should remain a 100 yard gun, IMO. Both guns was a Savage Acu-trigger. Hope this helps.
  6. I wouldn't go by this, but would contact rangers at Stewart directly. Good luck.
  7. You are allowed to camp in state forest. Just read the regulations on when and how and you'll stay out of trouble.
  8. Stan, how much FPE is that Hatsan dishing out? With your .22 and .177, you can take out almost all small game except yotes. A .25 that can sling 25 grains at 850 fps would be able to have enough force to take yotes IMO. Keep in mind, .25 pellets are online order only and they run 5-10 cents a pop.
  9. Like "assault rifles" are often misunderstood by the general public AA semiauto rifles such as the AR15, most people associate "mentally ill" as some sort of abnormality in their mental state that "normal" people can't understand. I think a better term should really be mentally sick, and not ill.
  10. Nice! Joe and Johnny will take care of you I'm sure. What are you using for rest and sight now?
  11. No club, but the land is stocked. It's public land at Stewart.
  12. Welcome aboard! We hunt birds in Orange county, without dogs.
  13. Grey, wish I could help out there, but in honesty, I've never cooked squirrel before. I've heard many many people talk about tenderizing them one way or another, either in a brine marinade for 24 hrs or a slow cook for many hours. I would imagine that if you are slow cooking(4+) hours, you need not worry about it not being cooked. Hope someone chimes in! PS. I believe Monk had a recipe posted here somewhere.
  14. Those are pretty impressive energy outputs from a Gamo. Pair that with the CPHP and you have a very nice economical and highly available hunting airgun. When I did the cost comparison on most .22 pellets vs .25, I found that they were not too far off, so I decided to go with a .25 If I could find a rifle that shot .22 CPD well, I'd get one in a heartbeat. Any other .22 pellet costs too much to shoot when the .25 JSB Kings are so economical, relatively speaking. Gamo has always made quality stuff, but their recent Whisper line has a few design flaws that Crosman eliminated by using the welded on picatinny weaver rails.
  15. Haha, I can see you itching to get out there real bad! Squirrels are going to be out all year, no hibernation for those tree rats. Try hitting up the woods on less windy days, Monday should be good. The wind keeps them on edge, and they prefer to be holed up in their nests when windy. Peanut butter works, but calls generally don't. If you're going to bait them, you should bait each time you go into the woods and get them used to eating in the areas you bait. This time of year, you can often tell where they are by looking up in the trees for their nests. Once you find those, look on the ground for dig-ups or tracks in the snow. Bunnies are going to try to hide during the day in the thick stuff, briars briars briars. I've flushed a few rabbits, but the airgun is no match for their speed. They run FAST! Much better chances with the shotty! I'm not sure where you are, but if you're down by me(3N, 3M), id be more than happy to share what I know. Otherwise, someone take this guy hunting!
  16. I can see where the 2 points would be deducted, but I can't recall myself writing that well in 8th grade, very well put together. And thanks for sticking up for the 2nd and for all of us hunters.
  17. Seen some deer feeding from a bird feeder. I think this time of year, they're starving and will eat anything. Put out some bird feed and use a blunt tip on an arrow to knock off their antlers, maybe.
  18. I mean no offense by this, but I generally skip over many posts that are long winded and/or filled with grammatical mistakes or poor punctuation. I feel that many members on here really do have valuable comments, but I personally would rather read and understand as many posts as I can so I skip over those that I know I'll have an issue understanding. That's why I try to give advice, not to sound like a snob, but to help myself understand you.
  19. Might be better off sending those pics in highest resolution to someone to take a look. Send me a PM if you want me to take a look.
  20. Sounds like more than most on here have done so far. Noob, what's yours?
  21. Monk, I'm sure glad you didn't tell him to keep an eye out.... Nice shooting. Which airgun?
  22. Ask permission, and offer to take game with a quiet airgun. Problem solved.
