  1. Dwallace, which parts are you in? I'd love to join you on that yote hunt.
  2. I'm pretty sure the lack of access for most hunters and hence lack of game is causing most of these strifes against one another. Older more veteran hunters are reluctant to take aspiring hunters out to show them the ropes, bowhunters complaining about guys ruining their hunts, gunmen complaining about bowmen educating deer, etc etc is a direct result of lost access and opportunities to hunt. One thing I noticed as a new hunter, we sure like to fight amongst ourselves instead of those that take land from us.
  3. Wow, everyone was right, you really don't get it. I have nothing against bowhunters as a group. Need I spell it out for you? I'm an aspiring bowhunter myself. Let's make that clear. I also have nothing against bowhunters have an extended 2 weeks into the small game season, but your ignorance(yes I used it again mr classy) in believing that it has no impact on small game hunters is just a lie to make yourself feel better and cause some ruckus. I think deep down inside, you enjoy stirring the pot and causing trouble. Fact of the matter is, 2 extra weeks of bow affects small game. Period. No complaints but I will not allow you to come on here stating otherwise. You see the action-reaction going on here? Of course not(thick skull). Don't try to paint me with that thick paintbrush of yours saying I'm anti bow, bitch, etc etc. My views and reaction to your bitching is clear, I'm just defending the nonsense that spews out of your other..... And like all your other posts, you surely will not let this go unanswered, but I'm done explaining myself and my point has been made. Small gamers will not bitch and complain as much as I've seen some of the bow guys have and then justify the effects of their hunt as zero effect on others. Like many have proven here, small gamers just chalk it up and go elsewhere. Turn the other cheek, if you will. Good day Sir!
  4. No twisting necessary, it's clear as day what you're trying to say here.
  5. Were the 3 times that you had to relocate due to limited access(parking) in bow season? Could it be possible that it was a bowhunter? See the difference is right there, most small game hunters will just chalk it up and go elsewhere, but to say that an extended 2 weeks of bow has zero impact, don't kid yourself Doc.
  6. Only in NYC, the rest of NYS is safe from these laws.
  7. Hi squirrel. Think you may need to look into that scope or rings for it. At 50 yards, if you're 3 inches off and already ran out of adjustments, your scope is seriously off. Take a look at your mounts and make sure they are not crooked or installed wrong. Try flipping one of them and see if that helps. A trick someone taught me, take the bolt out, and look down the inside of barrel. Line it up to bullseye and then without moving the gun, look through the scope and confirm. Hope you figure it out without breaking the bank on bullets.
  8. Steve, Just a few things. I agree with the trial and error, but Crosfire has a spring in prototype already, so it's a drop in mod. Easy peasy. Second, I really don't think your Mrod will be shooting down to 1k psi, most likely 2100. Mine is set to a 2650 fill for 860 fps using JSB Kings. By 2100 psi, I'm in the low 840 fps range, and that's not acceptable for my hunting needs. This gives me roughly 8-12 shots. If I started at 3k or even 3.2k psi, I could get about 24 shots, but the first shot would be less than ideal for hunting. I know his because I've invested in a chronograph that measures the speed at certain pressures. It's a must if you ever want to tune or use Chairgun's software for pellet trajectory calculations. We should get yours measured once you get some shooting done. As for a scope, the Mrod demands a powerful scope. Trust me on this. Airguns is different from powder burners in the way they kill. Airguns require very precise shots, and that's why you need as much as 16-24x zoom on them. The Mrod is a 100 yard gun easily. Shooting small game 50-100 yards with a 3-9x is going to be hard at best. You'll also want something with parallax adjustments, such as Hawke or Leapers scopes. The Mrod will also accommodate as big as a 56mm lens with medium rings. I personally have the Leapers 4-16x56mm scope on mine. If you have any questions, feel free to PM or give me a ring. I'm only 30 mins or so from you as well. Shawn
  9. So you're assuming that ALL bowhunters fill ALL their tags, EVERY year? That sounds a bit more ridiculous to me than anything else. Please do correct me if I'm wrong though.
  10. Stan, although lack of access to hunt was a major deterrent for me, you have gone out of your way to show us the ropes and opened your wisdom to myself and some others. I may have given up hunting had I not had some success last year. Thank you. It may not be what it used to be for you as far as access goes, but to this novice hunter, you've showed me that there is plenty.
  11. I don't think it matters how anyone sees it, the extra 2 weeks in bow season should mean a less than desirable effect on gun hunters. Trying to sugar coat it is just silly. Fact of the matter is, it is what it is and if anyone doesn't like it, adapt and become a bowhunter.
  12. This may be very trivial to most, but this is a serious question. What does it mean when the weather forecast calls for a North wind? Does that mean the wind is coming from the North, or blowing to? Never understood this, and could potentially really screw up things when it comes to planning. Anyone else confused about this or just me?
  13. Measured 26-27 at the archery shop.
  14. Since you already have the fill station from rev to gun(make sure it's rated for 3k psi) then I would go with the reg modification route by contacting reg manufacturer. You'll either need a stronger spring, or shims, depending on who made the reg. There are also prelate regs available for purchase from jdsair and Joe. What do you plan on taking with the .25?
  15. Doc, let me spell it out for you. Your mouthing off that an extra 2 weeks of the bow season has zero impact on others, specifically small game hunters. I'm just pointing out that is not the case. And as some has stated, most has stayed quiet, but your sheer ignorance and inconsiderate "me me me" stance has really got the worst out of most guys here and has spoken up. I hope this gets through your thick skull.
  16. I'm a believer than some animals just don't go down as fast. Dogs being one of them.
  17. NY DEC is not the issue here, Sterling has it's own set of rules regarding firearms before Nov 1st. You can hunt squirrels elsewhere with airguns for small game starting Sept 1st, just not Sterling.
  18. Don't know how I missed this thread. I currently own 3 hunting class air rifles. A Crosman powermaster 66, Crosman Nitro Venom and a Benjamin Marauder. The Crosman's are in .177 and Benjamin is .25. Pump, breakbarrel, and PCP respectively. Pellets range from 1 cent each, all the way to 10 cents a pop. For the most part, lead pellets in dome shaped works best for hunting, as accuracy is most important in airguns. A good scope usually costs 200-400 for a good setup. Steve, I've replied to the paintball tank setup problem over in the other forum. Wish I saw this sooner.
  19. Doc, just the simple fact that a parking spot that is now occupied by a bowhunters during early bow is infringing on the small game hunters. Get off your high horse and stop bitching. Let's not get into the fact that most small game hunters here also has some common courtesy to not ruin a bowhunters hunt by relocating themselves, which is also an inconvenience. I have nothing against bowhunters, just the ones that constantly bitch and bitch. Enough is enough.
  20. I'd love to get into bowhunting, any bows for dirt cheap from some of you advid bowhunters?
  21. I think there's a couple of guys that hunt squirrels in Suffolk. You might have better luck going up by us in Westchester and Putnum for squirrels.
