  1. Think it's safe to say that no one is going to step up to defend the smaller calibers when it's socially frowned upon by most. Very unfortunate with the bigger is better mentality here.
  2. Hi and welcome Max! I second blue mountain, cool range with cool guys. Talk to Walt, he'll surely hook you up with everything you may need to get shooting.
  3. Ive heard of my camping friends do backpack camping during the winter. Starting fires on the snow etc. They never hunted, so they were able to bring more camping gear than we would. Another option would be to camp out in the car and leave early in the morning to hunt and retire to the car if gear is too heavy.
  4. Didn't read through the entire thread, but to put it in a nutshell, hunting for most hunters is selfishness. This one hunts for trophy, that one hunts for meat, and the other hunts for fun. It's very rate that a hunter thinks about their true moral role as a hunter in the grand scheme of things. I too hunt pests to control a balance and allow native species to return. I hunt predators to protect assets and human life. I hunt deer to eat and reduce car collisions. These are all reasons to ensure that the human race continues to thrive as well as native species. To each their own.
  5. Found another place that I can get it for around 88 after rebate. Thanks for the heads up!
  6. I don't see this range finder for the price listed. I do see it for 150, even with the rebate, it's 120. Am I missing something here?
  7. I recall it was much less than .25 each. But I do recall that you need like 50 tails for them to pay for shipping.
  8. Can't wait! I went out last weekend and saw some reds, greys, some deer and turkey. Definately more than I usually see on other trips.
  9. Welcome Mark, I see that you have come from the WestchesterFishing.com site. Indeed there are lots of good info here, and some very good people. Enjoy your stay!
  10. Chipmonks are open all year long, in case you wanted to see if they tasted like chicken.
  11. Doesn't really pertain to NY, so I'd rather leave the details out.
  12. To the OP, rock doves are unprotected, and can be hunted all year round. If you have a spot for them, I'd love to join you with my airguns if allowed. Good luck, and shoot straight!
  13. I would list my kills, but in fear of people insulting me, I'd rather not. But I will say that the weight of the projectiles were 20 grains and 18.1 grains. Both clean kills. Otherwise, I think this is a great thread!
  14. To be honest, it's very hard to blame TV, computers, and other electronic devices, when you, the parent should be the one setting the example for your kids. It's one thing when your kids don't share the same interests that you have, but you as a parent can defiantely stop the electronic non-sense that most parents fall back on when they have bad parenting skills. And as far as the next generation of hunters, I know plenty. I'm 32, and I'm getting more and more of my friend's into hunting every month. I'm doing my part as best I can, but this is only my second year hunting. So let me ask you folks complaining about the dying breed of hunters, how many of you have gone out and showed someone the ropes and secrets to make hunting more enjoyable? Every bit counts, and helps. It really is the hunters that are letting this great tradition and past-time die. Shoot safe.
  15. They've been spotted early spring along the Pelham Bay Park, so definately no surprise.

    WILD PIG ON 84

No word on a pig, but if I come across one....
  17. Hey Martin, would be cool to do a hunt one of these days.
  18. Any of you guys hunt close to the city? I'd love to meet up with some of you for a hunt one of these days. Just picked up an airgun that is doing quarter-size groups at 50 yards, hoping to drop that down to dime size or single hole soon.
  19. I've ran across a few reds, but that was on state lands in Orange.
  20. Elmo, have you gone out there lately? You can still try out your 17 HMR on reds and crows.
  21. How many will you be needing? I live in the City, but honestly, red's by me are not that easy to come by. And the crows, kind of hit or miss. If you want to work something out, you can PM me. The season is coming to an end for me for hunting, since fishing is about to explode.
  22. damore81, I spoke to a DEC officer about the Staten Island Turkey infestation, and was told the same thing; not allowed to be hunted. The City, or DEC is actually forced to pay services to remove these. On a side note, I came across 6-7 turkeys along the highway on my way down from Stewart. When's Turkey season start?
