I did real well this year too. I Gave away a 4pt. minus the rack and tender loins. It went to a family of 4 who really needed it. Me and the land owner skinned and quartered it out and dropped it off to them , we even stopped and picked up some freezer paper and tape for them. .....It was like we handed them $1000......Felt good. If you don't need it donate it .

Congrats!!! Thats a good doe!!!

That surprises me too. Maybe it has a real tight choke???? Seems like, with a scope, it would make a good little slug/deer gun. but If it says no slugs than no slugs IMHO.

WOW!!! good deal! big body too. Start working on your x-mas list. I think he owes you!!! LOL!!!

I bought my son a single shot Rossi .410 for his first gun when he was 7. It also came with a .22 lr barrel. We still have it. I think they're very good guns.

Happy Thanks Giving to all. Went to my brother in-laws yesterday. First time I didn't do it here. Mistake. He tried to smoke the turkey out back. It was tougher than leather and tasted like lighter fluid!!!! DUMB ASS!!! Got my own bird defrosting right now. At least he had more than enough beer to fill up on....Wife drove home. Is Elmo sitting a little funny in that picture????

I just got back from picking up a deer at the butcher. He had a big beautiful 10 point laying there, that just got dropped off. He said that the guy shot it yesterday. He put out some Tink's and within 15mins this brute came into it on a string. Might be worth getting out in the next few days,

Yesterday morning I was driving by the farm I hunt. I saw the neighbor out in his driveway so I stopped to shoot the bull. As we were standing in the driveway, talking, a six point buck chased a doe from across the road and out into the field right next to us. I thought the rut would be long over but I guess Im wrong. Anyone else see any chasing lately??

Ugly!! Better your arrows then your bow I guess.

If I were to use a pistol, to hunt deer, I would invest in a Thompson Center and go with a rifle cal. A friend has one in 35 Rem. that he's taken a few deer with. It seemed to do OK but I would still rather use a long gun. Long guns, in rifle cals. and slug guns just have so much more thump its no contest.

I use a climber most of the time so I sling my gun (unloaded) across my back to climb up and down. But I think that as long as you lower and raise the gun gently it should be fine. Same with your bow.

I have it wrapped in freezer paper. Then seperate the meat into steaks, chops, stew.... what ever and put the wrapped packs of meat into brown paper shopping bags. Fold/roll the bags down tight and into the freezer. You're good for at least a year and a half more like two years.

I hunted 9x Sat. and Sun. and noticed the same thing. A good amount of shots (fortunately one was mine) Saturday a.m. and a few late in the afternoon. Sunday almost none. I counted maybe six shots all day. I think the switch over to rifles, around 5 or 6 years ago, has a lot to do with it. I notice that I hardly ever hear the barrage of shots anymore. Now its usually just 1 shot or sometimes 2. I use to sit in my tree and laugh after hearing 5 shots.....wait for the reload.....and five more. LOL

Ya couldn't hold out for the big one????? LOL! good deal congrats

I ended up going to a local place called Battery World. In and out in 10 minutes. $80... Although it was a little out of my way.

I'm sure we have all had our problems with Wal-Mart "associates" but come on.... Went in today looking for a new battery for my ATV. (mine died as I was loading up on Wednesday to head to camp, but different story) I walk into the automotive section with the dead battery out of my machine. I set the battery on the counter and tell the woman, working the counter, that I need a new battery for an ATV. She responds "good luck" and points to a whole row of ATV batteries on a shelf. She says "its one of those I guess" I asked her "can't you look it up?" and she says to me ( now I'm not kidding) "you can, I'm not sure how to" and she hands me the reference book ( which a 5 year old could figure out how to use) . Now I get a little pissed and ask her why she's working the auto section when she can't even perform such a simple task ( I wasn't a total pri-k) and she went on to tell me about how she really should be working in the grocery section and she shouldn't be in automotive and blah....blah... blah. Good prices almost nonexistent "associate" knowledge.... WOW! !! Needless to say, i went somewhere else.

Ithaca is an awesome gun....no debate. Had a Deer Slayer years ago but sold it. I have an "ultra featherweight" bird gun ( From when they went back into business in the 90's)and it's as good or better than anything they've ever made.

I use a key wick tied to 10 pound mono fishing line. I wrap it around a small piece of stick & keep it in a zip lock bag (rinse it out in clean water after every use then freshen it up again) I guess you could use any piece of cotton cloth as long as you wash it in some kind of scent free soap.

Two friends switched to the Hornady leverevelotion stuff a couple of years ago. They both shoot levers ....one a 30-30 and one a 35 Rem. they love it. They have taken bucks with it both years. The friend that uses the 30-30 got one (a nice last year at a little over 100 yards. It went maybe 25 yards. They both say its real accurate at longer ranges, compared to the standard stuff. Not sure what grain bullet they shoot.
